Californians ruined Oregon and Washington by moving there. If Texas follows, the Liberals/Marxist will go after Elon Musk to ruin him. Austin is a liberal bastion for Marxists and Socialists. Beware Elon!
One of the WORST things that could happen to Central Texas, a deranged and demented billionaire obsessed with science fiction but with no real talent of smarts of his own. Musk is historically a bad neighbor wherever he goes. He contributes little to the local communities he sets up in behind his own enterprise and any DJ atuon he has comes with the expectation of more tax cuts rather than trying to buy community favor. For the Texans complaining about Californians moving to the state, it’s ironic that they somehow think Musk wouldn’t be bringing parts of his Californian workforce to the state. It was idiotic to locate a tunneling company so close to a major river. Now the Boring Company threatens to contaminate the river for every town downstream. Musk’s Space X essentially took a wildlife refuge and public park and made it his personal playground for his exploding rockets. Now locals can’t access the public beach and the area is littered with space junk. Not to mention that Mush threatened legal action to local residents who refused to sell to him. Rockets can also be tested in the middle of the desert out west, there was no need to lease a public park and force out local residents. Musk’s university is a partisan hack job because he thinks other universities are too liberal and his own school is a $hit show in terms of administration and curriculum already. Students won’t learn much there. We already know company towns don’t end well for those who live in them, but those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it. His enterprises have raised the prices of houses in Bastrop County starting another wave of unaffordability for local residents. And now he wants to construct his weird sex compound for all his wife’s and children to live in. Musk is the poster child for all the wrong change happening to Austin. Signed: a born and raised Central Texas local.

When you say taxes are lower in Texas, you obviously don't include property tax. Buy a $300k house, pay $1200 a month for the payment and $1000 a month for the privilege of living in it. There is, however, the thought going around of doing away with property taxes, so there is hope.
Texas property tax rate is at 1.6% per annum. Which means its monthly payment is no more than $400. Lol. Not only will you pay more income taxes in California. But since housing is so expensive in California, even with it's low property tax rate, which is at 0.071%. You still have to pay more property tax than Texas. You can hardly find any houses below $600,000 in big cities in anymore. If u want a decent house that's the price tag. And that is already $355 per month. In Texas there are too many decent houses below $300k. So your property taxes do end up being somewhat the same, but u r not taking into account the monthly instalments you have to pay the bank. A $600k loan is always far more difficult to pay every month vs a $300k loan. And then u add up the cost of income taxes, higher food prices, higher gas prices, higher childcare, etc. Living in Texas is far cheaper than living in California. Lol. It is just the truth.

talking about cheaper living in Austin pre-covid was true. But, now it's starting to get expensive here too if anyone wasn't aware. Of course this is happening everywhere - but the average rent for a 1,800 sqft house with 4 bedrooms is formerly 1,625 a month.. and is now 2,400+. San Antonio is cheaper for rent, obviously dependent on the area... I know San Antonio is more ghetto, but I've been thinking of buying property there. You can find 5 bedrooms (even 6+ and 2k sqft) in San Antonio for 250k.. whereas this near Austin might be around 350-600k.
If Elon wants to build a city that will last forever Pumicecrete is by far the best building material on the planet Pumicecrete is a mixture of pumice cement and water mixed and poured into a set of reusable forms walls are poured from 12"to 25" thick pumicecrete is fireproof termite proof rust rot and mold proof and has a high R value and good sound attenuation solid poured walls means no critters can live in your walls Pumicecrete can be built for a fraction of the cost and time and pumice is one of the few building materials that can go directly from the mine to the job site ready to use without any additional possessing and zero waste Take care Ray
It sounds lightweight but that also implies it isn't as strong for some purposes. Have you ever heard of the books of Christopher Alexander? The " Pattern Language" suggested a material like pumice or vermiculite as the aggregate. It was lightweight and could even be cut with a saw and nailed into. Lightweight also meant lighter formwork. I built my house almost 38 years ago and wish I could do it again. I'd also earth shelter it far more.

I will never understand how people think Musk is intelligent. His engineers (that he seemingly fights with non-stop) are the intelligent ones and he personally holds them back entirely for his own glory. Then again, this is par for the course with autocrats and dictators, they truly see themselves as the main characters of life. Musk doesn't want to grow, he wants to exploit. He wants a world where only he and his insanely rich friends can do whatever they want with zero consequences. It's the classic supervillain story, "what's your goal?" --- "to take over the world!" At the end of the day, just an evil person who wants to subject his will over everyone else. Rinse and repeat. The problem is... people tend to believe that ONE person is always the source of all things. Like how people of a nation tend to blame the Prime Minster or President when times are bad for them, they think that the main figurehead is indeed personally responsible for their own follies, when in reality it is more like a group of really rich people decided that they want EVEN MORE money for themselves and will stop it nothing to attain it. Make no mistake, Musk only wants a better future for himself and a select few around him... People who have known him all his life have frequently said he's always been this way, but it hasn't been until about the last 10 years that the general public saw the real Musk as a psychotic, power obsessed control freak who has zero empathy for literally any other human except himself. Not to mention, he is at the end of the day, the world's richest keyboard warrior. His purchase of twitter and then reshaping it into a failure of right-wing propaganda along with his insanely childish behaviour about it is showing HOW something run entirely under Musk does... It fails, it fails so hard that no one is willing to come in and help it... But to him it's worth it because he has his own personal microblog and he's the admin. Again, obsession with power. Musk doesn't care about you, he doesn't even know you and prefers it that way. He wants you to have kids entirely so he can replenish his wage-slaves roughly every 16 years, he wants you to buy his products assuming they were perfectly engineered and when you foolishly believe "his" cars can drive themselves and you die in a horrific wreck, he will either never notice your death or in other cases, actually promote your death on Twitter laughing at the idea (he has done this in the past with Tesla's crashing, showing zero empathy for the person who died, or their family OR even a message that this is totally unacceptable and needs to be fixed). But no one listens, they don't care... The tech bros who love Musk are obsessed with him because it's their fetish too... The idea, the thought, of being so rich that you could just continue trolling the entire world all for your personal entertainment. You have to understand that the people who look up to Musk WANT this for themselves as well. They feel that by following the cult leader, they will be bestowed SOMETHING for all their loyalty, right? You won't , you were and are his wage-slave, and for the people who actually have to work at his companies, my god, he has zero qualms about openly firing the actual people he depends on. He doesn't know your struggles, doesn't understand living paycheque to paycheque, doesn't worry about basic living expenses, all those things are HILARIOUS to him, your life, your real real life, is an absolute joke to billionaires. You exist solely to be exploited by people like him.
So LBJ was president and he let Nixon call Neal and Buzz when Apollo 11 landed? 😮 gee, i didn’t know that when I watched the event in the summer of 1969.
Elon Musk’s vision for Austin and Texas at large isn’t just bold-it’s groundbreaking. What we’re witnessing is the blueprint for a new kind of future, one that shuns the overcrowded, overregulated, and stagnant atmosphere of Silicon Valley. Musk’s choice to build outside of Austin speaks volumes: he’s carving out a space that embraces innovation at scale. Whether it’s Neuralink, Tesla, or his reclusive "city" projects, the common thread here is room to grow-something California simply couldn’t offer anymore. Texas is a fertile ground for Musk’s larger-than-life ambitions, and I believe this is just the first glimpse of what’s to come.
He is NOT building in Austin as the city wouldn't allow the ways he intends to ruin Bastrop. Check back in 5 years 😢. I have a number of friends in Bastrop who are sick about what he is doing.
Tesla is the most automated car factory in the world. Having the most automated car assembly line in the world would minimize the spread of COVID-19 compared to most other car factories.
Part of the reason he’s not in Austin proper is it’s just a couple steps behind the nonsensical politics he was escaping in California. By building adjacent to Austin, he gets access to all the positives of proximity without the headache.
The concept of a "company town" was already well developed and implemented in the 1800s. Just watch the film There Will Be Blood. Or read about the Manhattan Project in New Mexico. Basically when the private sector controls the company town, the resident workers end up never being able to make it into the middle class due to the company barring its employees from doing business (shopping etc) anywhere else but in the company stores where prices are 3 to 5 times what they cost outside of the company town. Classic case of the moneyed class using labor as a "money pump."
@symbionese2348 here are some more detail. Austin sits on the recharge zone for the Edward's Aquifer. Austin sells the aquifer water to San Antonio. Because of the aquifer, Austin zoned east Austin for industrial development getting all the environmental and wildlife studies done in the 1970s. For the longest time east Austin was cement factories. The geology under East Austin is perfect for tunnels. This is why Austin is so perfect industrial high tech. Research university, water, power, airport. Very pro business, but still culturally progressive. It really is a chunk of the silicone valley in the middle of Texas.
I am a lifelong Texas native of 64 years. I love my state. However, Austin, our state capital, is a radical, left-wing, woke hellhole. If you have a family of young children in school, don't move here. Trust me, you will regret your move. The education system has gone woke. Housing prices and rental rates have skyrocketed to the stratosphere. Liberal Californians, liberal New Yorkers, and transients have destroyed this once beautiful, once small town. Austin has become an overpriced, leftist hellhole.😢
Isaacson didn't like working at CNN. He says he didn't fit the culture and couldn't function properly there. I've read several of his books. He's a great writer and is much more comfortable doing that.
Isaacson's book is useful BUT he focuses more on Musk's personal life and business ups and downs and does not give proper justice to Musk's technical achievements. Yes I would say it is more of a CNN or MSNBC read. Other biographies give Elon proper credit to the achievement side of his life. The book accurately reflects the political slant of Mr. Isaacson. (Hope the author is not offended by the misspelling of his name.)
Tesla design center is still in Hawthorne. Tesla software guys are still in Cali as well- Tesla leases the biggest office space in Palo Alto just a couple years ago. Megafactory is going strong and ramped up to full capacity last year in Lathrop. Fremont still makes model S, Model X’s, Model 3’s and Model Y’s. Giga Nevada is still going strong and getting larger.
But wont be long before a complete corporate move. The only reason to stay in California is for talent retention...however, Austin is now a super hub of tech talent so why stay in California to pay more taxes and deal with liberal politics?
Alot of Californians think the California economy is insolated and impervious to external threats. Be careful, its not the first time politicians have destroyed a country or state's economic viability.

Elon was very well liked there and I’m very happy and excited for him to be here in Central Texas.
My ONLY worry is that he has his companies in tornado country, I know he has the money to handle damages but those things are scary!

The Tesla Factory is down the street from the Airport even though it's technically located in Del Valle. EVERYTHING is still super close to Austin.
Bastrop is another one of the cute, small towns to visit, great for a Day Trip so I know folks will be doing this more and more of this because there are a lot of really cute shops and eateries there.

He should have moved to Dallas instead of Austin.
Elon is the one bringing all those Californians to the area genius…

When you say taxes are lower in Texas, you obviously don't include property tax. Buy a $300k house, pay $1200 a month for the payment and $1000 a month for the privilege of living in it. There is, however, the thought going around of doing away with property taxes, so there is hope.
Where are you paying $12,000 a year in taxes on a $300,000 home? I have 3 houses and do not pay anything close to that in North Texas.
@@sidvicious6505 His numbers might be off but Property taxes are theft in the end after enough time has passed.
1000 month in taxes?! I think that's just you lmao if you apply for a homestead exemption it will go down, but I think you're just getting screwed

talking about cheaper living in Austin pre-covid was true.
Great!! Austin keeps changing.

You exist solely to be exploited by people like him.
finally a rational person, i felt like i was going crazy seeing all the bootlicers praise this fucking propaganda lmao

This story started in the 1970s when Texas pre-zone east of Austin. West, north, south Austin are regulated for construction.
Do you know what you are talking about? I don't.
