Pixel is better. I still receive the Nord though tomorrow. I think camera is very important, but overall for me its the better choice.
I expected the Pixel to be far ahead of the others but iPhone somehow closes the gap. In fact I’d be fine with either of them.

@@RennieAsh A sensor can be 12MP in resolution but with a bigger sensor size than 64MP or a larger pixel size overall. The 12MP sensor size in the pixel 4a is pretty small but Google's software is magic. Luckily someone will definitely port the camera software from the 4a to other Android phones in the form of GCAM mods without getting the pixel 4a. That's the sideloading beauty of Android.

Totally agree, and it helped me decide between the Nord (and Nord 2) and Pixel 4a that I've been deliberating about for weeks. I now have the 4a (it's 70 quid off at the mo) and the camera has blown my previous one into the weeds, even though that had a 64MP main and plethora of others to help it. I'm just starting to play with the Astro mode, and despite the light pollution here it's already looking promising
I prefer Pixel, some of white balance really good there. More natural.

That one really shocked me, the portrait perfectly captured the freckles on her face, it's amazing how google's 12mp sensor got way more detail than oneplus' 48mp one. Shows that megapixel isn't the only factor that affects picture quality
And the most interesting thing is pixel 4a has not those hype centred 4 cameras,just 1 📷.

Clearly iphone had already lost by looking at the price tag. This is the INDIAN MINDSET, & its the FACT.
In the end we can see that there is literally no COMPETITION between any of those 3 phones!

I don't know if people care about accurate. Most people care about which one looks more pleasing. Most don't even care about which brand they use too. They gonna use filter or edit them anyway.
@@catboy3471 That's false. He says that for maybe one shot, and it isn't by a large margin. The iPhone consistently puts out unnaturally flat and orange-looking skin tones on him that he deems "Instagram ready" and "maybe more flattering" (although that is personal preference and not what I like). When he is summarizing all the cameras, he says "In my opinion, the pixel 4a wins in terms of pure image quality. Photos are [color] accurate, and the phone cannot be beat for astrophotography or night sight".
Never liked OnePlus’ cameras. Apple continues to surprise with its cameras. Reason why ‘megapixels’ are irrelevant in phones in this day and age. And, 4A is BEAUTIFUL.

Why can't the Chinese manufacturers stop it with their friggin "beauty" mode (which you apparently can't really turn off). I don't care for faces that look like wax figures. At least give us the option.
It's to do with the high demand for that feature in their home continent. I used to work for Samsung in a Marketing capacity around the time of the Galaxy S6 and asked the same question to my bosses at the time. There is a cultural aspect to it. Lighter skin qs often seen as more pleasant and appealing in some parts of the world and that's what it ties in to.
I personally think they should allow full manual control over the feature for those of us who do not like the artificial look, myslef included,

@@gru8001 well Apple can do it, they have intentionally kept camera of iPhone SE kinda mediocre, they design their own chip so cost cuttings there, and full screen no bezel is not a big deal.

Xion D yep, imo the pixel 4a’s desing is better. It has a plastic back too which makes it easier to grip, won’t shatter and it won’t scrath as much as glass
@Zach's Edits yeah, the only thing better on the iphone se is the processor. But since i play minecraft PvP (mostly survival games) and mariokart tour, its just not good for gaming, like damn my samsung a50 lasts about 5 hours of gaming on them, im concerned about the iphone se running out of battery within 2 hours of playing them. I even hear that iphone se lasts less than 2 hours when playing fortnite even on the lowest settings with only the resolution being native 750p (which is native resolution of the iphone se). Can say iphone se is better for gaming for a while, but imo the pixel 4a is better bc it has a bigger battery.

I think this helped me decide on getting the 4a. The SE, like you said, is better for straight to social media shots. The 4a gives a better starting point to edit the photos. Better dynamic range is always better for editing and I think I just prefer the look of the 4a shots.

Still going with the NORD, without doubts. While the pixel is impressive in image fidelity, so to speak, the Nord comes with a wider camera angle which makes it more functional. And that's not a thing you can just "add" on the other phones once you bought them. Instead, soon or after it will be possible to install the camera drivers of the Pixel 4a, so you have the chance, by buying the Nord, to "upgrade" or at least try out the Pixel Camera.
And finally, let's be honest. Natural or not, most people will always "retouch" their pics before uploading them. So in the end it becomes a matter of taste, and there are plenty of 1-second-solutions to adjust basic values like luminosity, saturation, contrast and more. Anyways, great comparison video, I was looking forward to that Nord vs Pixel. Thank you!
Well i don't think so. I would say that all of those 3 are completely different smartphones and the only thing in common is the price. Iphone has the fastest processor and the smallest body, unfortunetely it's old look and massive bezzels ruin its specs for most of people. Pixel 4a still has very compact build but with up do date design, awesome camera and... i'd say that's all. Its processor is pretty bad compare to the others. While nord some would say gives you the most, its camera is the worst of the three. I wouldn't be happy having ultrawide/macro/watever else if all of these are trash and the main camera can take muuch MUCH better pictures than the other marketing cameras. Fortunetely it does have the biggest battery, 90hz and best midrange chipset BUT it's the biggest, much larger than the others. Aaand as the only one it has only mono speaker. People should make up their minds fast as with one to choose because they are so different.

Ultra wide lens is even worse than main lens and doesn’t have OIS as well. It is just a marketing gimmick. You’ll rather use main lens forcibly anyway and after taken editing brings in a lot of noise and this further deteriorated the quality of the image. Photo will look like it’s taken from 2012

Actually gcam sucks on most phones, it's *optimized* for pixels, so it won't be as good as the OnePlus stock camera, or Google's real camera.
There's next to no edge detection and cannot handle night mode as well as an actual pixel or even OIS properly. You can't blame them, it is, after all, pixel software, not meant for your phone. OnePlus stock app will be better.
It could be If ultra wide lens had OIS.
Extra cmameras on nord are too bad and almost useless.
Nord and OnePlus are now tied at 2nd place.

I don't understand? You can see that the SE gives the most natural and realistic picture. The 4A in some situations has pink tint and more narrow dynamic range compared to the rest

Video on the iPhone is superior, photos on the pixel are most balanced, with the superior night photos, and nord has a more varied camera selection. While people are gonna tell you quality >quantity, that is people that haven't had a wide angle lense on their phone yet. Once I got a wide angle lense on my phone I will never go back to a single camera phone. It's just so useful and fun to play with.
Absolutely agree with you. For me, the Nord is the easy winner just because it has an ultrawide lens. Even for selfie cam too. The macro camera is trash though.

i thought there will be a significant difference between pixel and nord in the camera quality, but it doesnt seem so . Yes, nord has phony vibrance but pixel is very accurate . i was certain i would get pixel but now i'm confused.

I literally just bought a 4a just to compare it to my S20. I am almost 100% certain the S20 cannot take a clear picture of anything that moves even just a little bit. I want to test the two and hopefully be sold on Pixel and trade my S20 for a Pixel 5.

Pixel: Best images
iPhone and Nord second place. But the nord got also a wideangle front and back camera which makes it stand out.
iPhone is the fastest phone with a13, but in think the nord is just the best allrounder. Good versatile camera, good speed, much storage, great display for the price und also very good battery. Pixel might be the way to go if you wanna safe some bucks and get the best pictures. And if you are an apple user, you go with the se all day
And if you are not a Apple user, stay away from se. Closed ecosystem is a trap.

Google pixel being able to zoom in without any second lens is just incredible. I found out what they're actually doing though, when you take the picture they are actually taking multiple pictures along with a couple frames from the video stream for the past couple of frames before that and it actually uses variations and the slight shaking its of your hand to be able to capture some of the detail between pixels by intelligently determining where they should be and then upscaling it based off of that. Basically, Google has learned how to zoom in using machine learning

Great video, was looking forward to seeing this comparison. For me the Pixel does win out overall. But, the extra tech with the Nord shows promise. I would hope OnePlus can improve the software through updates over the next few months, although I'm not sure if they'll put in the effort to.
Yeah the pixels night mode does it for me. It beats the iphone video at night, IMO.
Gcam on Nord will do a much better job but Pixel's night sight is unbelievable n hard to match.

I was shocked too and had to rewind to confirm that the pixel sounded that good.
As someone who use the snapseed "accentuate" filter a lot i like the contrasty and saturated photos from the oneplus nord.
If you really use snapseed than u will appreciate raw images or true to life photos..and you can do anything with those images where contrasty images tends to fuk up in snapseed..

Awesome video Tom! This actually got me to exit safari and enter the sign-in nightmare on Microsoft Edge to be able to watch this in 4k on my 5k iMac (thanks Google and Apple; bastards (lol)). Anyway, is there any chance you might do a camera comparison between the Pixel 4a and 3a? Just curious if there's a substantial difference. By the way, I was pretty surprised with the way the iPhone smooths skin even on the rear camera, even more so than the Xs/Xs Max did. Also, just wanted to mention I've been watching though I do comment often each of your videos. I sub'd to your channel when you had 32k subscribers, and now you're almost at 850k! That's pretty cool. I remember commenting like four years ago about how one day your channel would reach one million subs. And here you are now almost there. You deserve all the success my friend.
I'd rate this video 4/5 stars due to not mentioning the very noticeable bad image stabilization on the iPhone SE during video shooting. Not only during the day, but even during night time the SE had image skipping which looked awful. It's strange that you mentioned the Nord because the SE was undoubtedly the worse at stabilization. Other than that great review! Good job and thanks. I think if there was a way to reduce the contrast on the Nord pictures it would be a perfect 2nd to the Pixel 4a. Cause it does indeed take great pictures, just a tad too high in contrast. I really love the wide angle pictures on the Nord! It reminds me of a 20mm lens on my camera. On the other hand the iPhone SE is definitely the worst out of 3 for both pictures and videos.
P.s. I agree the Pixel 4a definitely wins. That night mode is an absolute miracle image processing.

Based on 5:32 the application of each camera is as follows:
- Pixel 4A for photos that you don't show to anyone else.
- iPhone SE for photos to post on Facebook for your friends to see.
- OnePlus Nord for photos to post on Instagram that you're not afraid to show to strangers.
I must say, this is a proper way of doing a phone comparison review. Nicely done!

Try uploading an instagram story and you'll see that everything is optimised towards IOS...
On the pixel just take photo with camera app, swipe up on the album icon, and choose stories.

Pixel 4a has a Moment case listed on Google's store. If you've ever used a Moment lens you'll know this solves all the issues with only having 1 lens. The wide angle Moment lens combined with the 4a will be amazing.
As long as G-Cam exist i will be more than happy to buy the Nord...

Yeah, I'm thingking the same thing too. I think will stick with Samsung's phone, it has better battery, better display, better camera hardware combined with the camera software of Google from Gcam. It's a beast of a phone.

To me, the Nord wins every round hands down, at least for still image.
All the images it took were oversaturated, it's the natural and raw look that you are looking for from the camera, not the overprocessed one. With the raw you can do whatever you can, but you can't save a picture that already has so many filters on from the start
