2001 4 Runner we have had since new with 246,000 miles. I have done almost all of the work on this but, about 3 years ago had the ATF flushed; I do not have the pump to do this; and while it was in the wires and plugs were done. I did not realize that the coils were not done. Just in the past few months, some misfires and fuel smell that got worst until it was unsafe to drive due to misfires. I ordered new Denso coils, NGK wires, and NGK plugs and upon changing out the first pair, found green corrosion where the remote wire plugged into the coil. There turned out to be corrosion on each of the 3 coils and after the change, it runs pretty close to new. Thank you for the video and if you have not changed your coils / wires / plugs in 100,000 miles, I would definitely do so if the vehicle is feeling down on power or misfiring. For ~$200 it made a huge difference and the fuel economy improvement should also pay off the cost of the parts.

Mine's @ 300k+ but would recommend to run some seafoam into the gas tank, flush out those ol' injectors👍

I had these same codes after replacing my intake gaskets on my 3.4 Chevy Impala. Seems like you need to plug in #6 fuel injector while putting it back together if you don't want lean fuel causing the P020 code. 😂 Luckily I was able to get to it with a hook & pick set instead of tearing it back down. Problem solved!

Perfect, thank you! Exactly what I needed. Love these “older” engines, very easy to work on!

@@backyardchevy328 haha dude. So I did the spark plugs, replaced a coil pack on #3, and when I removed the wires 2 of them snapped off inside! The little prong that goes down and attaches to the spark plug snapped off lol. So I’m glad you have a video for the wiring too! 🙆🏻‍♂️😂

@@sk8nchill52 yea those wires can get pretty delicate over time..i have some long needle nose just for that reason to be able to reach in and pull it out

Thanks man. I was hoping to see an example of actually removing the spark plug. This video was helpful though.

I have p0302, I swapped Coil and boot from cylinder 1 to cylinder 5, and drove it and the code came back in for cylinder 1 again. What should I do, change the wire, what is that part called that you checked the wire with? Thanks

If I were 20 years younger, I'd fix it myself. But now I know what to look for to keep my mechanic honest. An '03 base Tundra with the V6 and just turned 100k miles. First engine trouble it's ever had. About it being an "older" engine, my first car was a '68 Pontiac Firebird with a 350 V8. In fact the last car I worked on was a V8 with classic distributor - points, condenser, cap and rotor. That this engine has 3 coils? I feel so dated! 😊

Could possibly be your ecu. If it’s misfiring on all cylinders it is most likely that there is a root problem affecting all cylinders. If it was just one cylinder it would probably be a spark plug/coil pack/spark plug wire. It could also be clogged egr valve or burnt valves. Head gasket failure is also a possibility due to leakage of compression. I’m no mechanic but this would be my best guess.
