Yeah hopefully the silver perch and trout grow to a good size so they’ll pull even harder. It’s surprising how hard they are to catch when I know they’re in there
Hey, nah the cattle don’t drink from the water as they tend to walk in and poo in the water which will effect the water quality. We’ve got cattle troughs for them but this is either a backup water supply and has been used to fight fires in the past. I brought the aerator from a local aquaculture place nearby so I’m sure any local pond place should stock them or you could try online
@@blairhuttonfishing yeah ok we got a farm dam stocked with fish as well and we fenced it off, it doesn’t have an aerator though so I’m not sure how that affects them. They still survive and are great fun to catch
@@mitchellpetrie_Outdoors I think it’s more of a piece of mind when it comes to the end of summer that the fish are still happy. I know they can and do survive but I’m worried about a couple of dry years and how the water quality will be. It’s good fun fishing for them in your own dam, what fish do you have?
Can’t say as the places no longer sells them but there’s quite a few places in Perth and I’ve seen them in local pet shops but they will need a permit if stocking them in any dams
That's awesome Blair. Did you do the design and planning yourself or get someone else to do it? Part of the inspiration for my career change was looking at making farm dams useable for aquaculture. Pretty different down your way from my in-laws in the central wheatbelt though...
The dam was already dug in this design we just got the island cleared and dug deeper. As for the rest of it I got everything done myself. That’s awesome, it can be very daunting when you don’t know how to go about it. The dams in central wheatbelt would have different things to be aware of as well.
every fishermans dream! those silver perch look great on the ultralight too

Looks great Blair
Thanks Dallas!
What lure are you using for the silver perch I’d like to know
Scout 45 from razor edge lures, casts well for a small hard body and has a loud rattle. Definitely a lure to have in your tackle box
What are silver perch like to eat compared to red fin?
I’ve never eaten them but some aquaponics places sell them to restaurants as a high quality eating fish so I assume they’re good
Hey mate do you let cattle drink from that dam or is it fenced off to keep them out. Also where do you get air aerates from?
