Love the way the polo blends in the traffic no one knows whats hiding inside the bonnet of the car everybody thinks it's a regular polo but just a little throttle and you have already bashed few suvs on the road

People will easily spot a cooper coming in their rear view but they would easily underestimate the GTI for a regular Polo. Having said this, I am a proud Polo owner.
The problem with gti is that it looks same like polo when u spend 25 lakh

Mini Cooper S is good but I like the subtle and simplistic sleeper car look of GTI. About the sound of GTI, well German cars are like that, you never feel like you are riding hard but in real world you would be carrying fast speeds.
Of course if Ford decides to release the Focus RS in India both these cars would be toast.
Focus RS in India not happening anytime soon, even if they do they do I highly doubt they will bring the 2.3L Eco boost engine with it.
And if Volkswagen decides to bring the Golf R in India, even the ash of the Ford Focus RS would be missing
Mini has got more class than gti . So the mini is the one for me .

This review is not biased at all. The GTI is a clear winner.
It's not always about looks or specs. If you've ever owned a car, you will know that practicality is something you just cannot ignore and that is exactly why the GTI wins.
i am a great follower of autocar India . but this time i think the comparison is partial. the person who is able to buy these cars will not see the practicality. if i got i chance i will pick the MINI rather than a car which looks like a regular polo .

People do not understand the meaning of sleeper cars. There are Pros and Cons to both. What the Mini has to offers is fun if you take your car out on weekend drives on some twisties. If you need an everyday car which can do both go for the Gti.

The reviewer is completely partial to polo though MINI is a way better one. And also comfort wise Mini would suffice city roads. It would been better if there had bought Golf GTI instead of regular polo. Golf would have had in better position at this price point
Bro, have you ever sat on a mini jcw or mini cooper s? it will break your spine in bad roads on long journeys. Trust me my friend has one and I have the GTi we always go in my GTi because of this unless we are sure that where we are going will have good roads.

The sound of mini can be deal breaker for some there are some pops and bang cracks gti seems too silent but overall gti seems a better car for india

Always remember Mini Cooper was supposed to fight off Golf but it barely keeps up with the Polo.

Why not bring the golf gti mk 7? It looks so much better and is sharper and is a legend in its own right.
There may be reasons such as sharing assembly line with polo and also Indian roads that can get golf polo. But given the price point, I'd be more than happy to spend a few more lakh and get Golf GTI or Golf R imported. It's just too good a car.
I think buyers should consider this option.

Each to their own...but the polo would bore me to drive and for me the VW badge holds no charm or status...mind you in saying that, they are both great cars. But the mini is the one you want it looks good, handles like a dream and has seats that don't look like they were made out of a picnic blanket. As a driver's car give me the mini everytime if I need a fast premium sector small car to have some fun in

power performance and practicality VW
It's a hot hatch. Stiffer suspension and heavy steering is mandatory for the handling. It's one of the best handling car for this budget. If practicality is a concern then get a SUV.

It dosnt need to have a dual nature and the gti looks soo much like a regular polo and for the price we pay they give us this? Definitely mini has the visual and driving drama required by anyone buying a car at this price point !

Good but is it not good to just go silently rather them grabbing attention on the road and wasting your time for the onlookers the polo is cool its so simple so unnoticeable that you will not have to worry about someone lurking your car because 80% of the people will just not notice the polo thats very good sometimes just to be in a car which is a beast under a polite shell.

A fully loaded mini will cost you 40 lakhs or more. So polo at 25 odd lakhs is a relatively good value for the people who doesn’t want much attention.

At this price a hot hatch is far from being practical. I personally feel if one should become practical pick a sedan and not the GTI. If rally is an option GTI would be the one to go. But when it comes between these two the GTI doesn't stand a chance against the Mini.
GTI lacks the go-kart like handling that the Mini has and although having a good transmission doesn't justify the GTI's practicality in this segment where the people who buy these would be and should be behind the wheel. And that's all that matters.!!

I'm no fan of the Mini and I love the Polo but I think the GTI is extremely overpriced for India. It would've been nice if it was priced around the INR. 15 lakh mark at max. For 25 lakhs you might as well go for the Octavia RS. At least it looks the price.

basically this GTI comes with the lower tuning of 250nm and as always comfort mantra .. but still manages to keep up with cooper thats a huge thing ... people buy this for sheer performance wish vw cud'nt hv done the comfort stuff
It doesn't keep up in the performance department on a twisty road or track Mini would smash the gti.
may be the indian version u r correct, vw has mentioned it has done certain revamps to the indian variant to make it suitable for daily commute ... if u watch the reviews from europe and others on terms of sheer perfromance and handling GTI is ahead of mini ... MINI is more of a legacy
Cyril Matthew no. This is the Polo GTI, internationally you get the Golf GTI which is a totally different car and even then, The Golf is also set up for comfort and being a daily driver, Something like a Fiesta St or Focus St is much faster and much more fun than this.
Aviral bajaj i was mentioning the gti itself ... golf gti i know is a different car and the sport version comes with massive 2L Tsi nd tdis nd more...dnt u know gti is a global car nd hvnt u hrd the statement made by VW india AG while its lauch that the indian variant has tuned for our conditions, see the autocar interview with AG...so suspension has set for comfort, suspension isnt as lowered much and torque has been reduced to 250nm from 320nm ... Watch comparisons of mini nd gti from europe and other markets ... gti simply outperforms mini with the massive power and dynamics ... People who go for these hot hatches don't give shit about practcality nd price ... my pref is mini itself for it's added legacy ... Who said golf is set for comfort and u r comparing the fiesta , fusion nd focus st which dont sell here nd are typical sport versions with em ..see in these markets a same car has different variants which includes base, comfort , premium luxury and sport variants ... if u r comparing compare it with respective versions moreover how can u arrive at it own conclusions without comparing them side by side ...
Cyril Matthew dsg gear box causes the torque to be limited to 250nm in international versions too! Only manual is 320nm, which is unfortunately not here

No person in India would buy GTI . it's damn costly .. VW should have thought about Indian mindset before putting money even in Production cost ... as we Indians don't like to see same thing which has been around us for much cheaper price and just because of engine version change we need to pay 3-4x money ...
Anudeep Srivastav should have made it 3 lakhs cheaper and offered a manual gearbox and 18 inch rims to differentiate.
Just swap an Jetta engine in a comfortline polo you have your GTI

250 (india) 320(international)
- 250 NM is with the DSG box and 320 is with the manual box. India gets the DSG, power figures are the same with the international DSG.
