Ya know I hate to bring race up but it brings warmth to my heart to see Country Black folks, father and son and family, hunt'in, living off the land and setting an example for all of us like God intended us all to do. Where I live in NC black folks operate big agricultural operations and farms and they are the same people who will stop and help you change a tire, chat you up at the hardware store for an hour and we live in easy brotherhood. I wish it was like that everywhere...God Bless you and your family. I am a new sub!

Bossman, Sorry about the damage from the rain. You are loosing WAY TOO MUCH dirt to erosion. I would suggest turning your rows cross-ways(perpendicular) to the way you have them now. It will dramatically correct the erosion, but will also hold water in the upper section as well. I also noticed that the rows would be better orientated to the sun's path during the day. Thank you so much for sharing. Your hard work always pays off. I'll bet you have an even better garden this year than last year...And last year was pretty darn good. :)!!!!

Man, I was wondering where you were and I had to RE subscribe. I'm taking lunch and watching you fix your garden and wish I got some of that rain here in central Oklahoma.
That’s weird but I’m not surprised, glad you back.
I plant Okra as well and a few years ago I found a "Bush" Okra. Best thing since sliced bread. No more reaching up and getting my old man arms cut up. They grow like Bush Beans. If you want some seeds, let me know. Those things keep producing through November. At the end of the season, I just pick everything that is dying, okra, tomatoes, beans, cukes anything and just can them all together as a sweet relish. Those Bush beans I plant are the Romano beans.
That end that holds water i think you said you planting watermelons down there. That's a good idea they need a lot of water so i think they'll do fine down there. You are correct you have to plant corn in a block of sorts so it will pollinate correctly. Trust me i learned that the hard way. Big farmers do rows because they have acres and acres of corn thus it is a huge block. But small farmers have to do what you did.

Had that happen. Made wider hills and compacted the top tight to prevent it the next year. One benefit was that it turned out to be a chaos garden with all the seeds growing in one spot. Didnt have any bug issues but the ground hog found everything growing in there. Plus it got so thick I was scared to stick my hand in there and look for any remaining veggies.

I found it , i think it was a
wheel plow, it has 2 handles
with a big wheel and my uncle
are brother would push it
and it made a sort of deep
rows. The cheapest one
I found was at SLE Equipment
for 137.99
No.2 was at amazon for
175.97 . They were popping up

It looks like you have some really nice sandy soil. All I have here in SW Missery is red clay and bedrock. That sandy soil is great for taters.

My grand daddy use to soak his rows with a hose to make them compact b4 the rain cuz he said the rain would wash them out if it was heavy enough.
Man a tsunami came through here after I planted
