The fact you're doing these reaction videos is brilliant. They have this mix of very entertaining pace while still being pretty informative. I think having those videos in-between your usual content is one the best ways to introduce people to the channel and catch the attention of the younger generations. Such video games and youtube videos you have been reacting to have ignited a spark of interest for WW2 History among the younger populatio (me included although my interest grew 15 years ago). These reaction videos bridge the gap between entertaining videos and more advanced analysis of History on your channel. So once again, great job and brilliant idea to have this kind of content on the channel!

Another great reaction video: turning to the practical side of things, the length is far better. I know that the channels surprisingly small subscriber base has been discussed the past, and, IMHO it is partly related to the item length. The live talks you have been presenting are excellent They have plenty of viewer engagement, as witnessed by the very active "live chat" that accompanies each. Plenty of "likes" are given, at the end of the re-enactment panel discussion my screen showed 62 watching with 67, accumulated, "Likes" !!! But these live shows are perforce lengthy. With shorter programme lengths the algorithm is encouraged to push the item up the search list exposing the item to more potential viewers. I know you know more about the ins and outs of UA-cam's vagaries than I, but I wanted to comment this fully as I am aware that there are some of the viewers who wont have an understanding of how they, the viewers themselves, can help the development of the channel simply by "liking" and commenting, as well as sharing to social media sites thereby helping the algorithm spread the channel to a potentially bigger audience.
I also wanted to thank you for sharing your hard won knowledge so generously to your community. Thanks Paul

Thanks, Paul. I'm not much of a gamer, but I did run through this about 3-4 years ago and haven't fired it up since. All the sections are a bit much, not to mention the melodramatic story line. Your critique of the Normandy terrain and fortifications highlights developer sloppiness.

As a fellow WW2 nut I thought I was the only one who can’t enjoy certain movies tv shows video games etc because I couldn’t get past all the inaccuracies like for instance if you didn’t know any better you’d think every German soldier was A in the SS and B A holder of the Knights Cross. I was also accused of being a racist for pointing out that that American Army units were segregated during WW2 as if this was my policy or i was somehow cool with it because I mentioned it no its just that the lack of realism ruins things for me

Interesting view Paul. Have heard about Call of Duty but I am not a game player, so this is my first glimpse. Not sure how the guy we are watching goes from weapon to weapon. The .45 is unrealistic. One mag in the weapon and the pouch on your belt carries 2 more mags. This guy would have been out of ammo long ago. The bunkers and WWI trench complex were a bit of where the heck did that come from. Thx Paul!!!

As a live long gamer, you'll just have to get used to the oil drums. Apparently they're some unintended side effect of programming a game engine, there seems to be nothing they can do about them popping up everywhere. I've seen them in games set in medieval and even Roman times. Great videos, just ignore the drums.

Gaming like the movies, requires a certain amount of suspension of disbelief. Because it is afterall a game. May I suggest a Reacts for Hell let Loose. Call of Duty is player against AI. Hell let loose is player against player. Uniforms are one of the things earned, as are weapons. So often will be all over the place. Locations are often the most accurate, certainly it doesn't have that labrynth of trenches at the top of Omaha. Games are limited by the number of people you can run on a server at one time. The players cover a wide range of people, male & female, kids looking for a bit of fun, one or two who might delve deeper into the history. Those of us older who know the history & this is the way to get closer to that history. A good game will have enough immersion to give you little tastes of real reactions (e.g. katushya rockets coming down on you).

The bands on the helmet and stuff shoved in them is more Vietnam than WW2. It's like the game designers did not spend enough time studying WW2 and just mixed in stuff from WW1, WW2, Vietnam, maybe even Korea.
That's mislabeled early composition or plastique, not TNT.

You say the bunkers didnt have square openings, but on the sides of the valleys at viverville sur mer, you can see the remains of enflading machine gun bunkers
most of the forward facing bunkers were tobruk ringstand bunkers high up on the cliffs with little giving away their position, because that's of course to the machine gunners huge advantage over having a big scary towering bunker for GIs to shoot at
Another addition is that on the west side of omaha, there was concrete seawalls, on the east side it became more worn and eventually turned into sand and wood, so the game is somewhat accurate in that regard
The mortar ringstands at the shelf would have existed at omaha beach, but instead on the bluffs.
also, the artillery bunkers at the short end of green dog exist in the game, proving it is at the west side of omaha on green dog, but the valley is way too small and is extremely narrow, in real life it would've fit houses on either side, here's a good photo www.dday-overlord.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/omaha_beach_vierville_sur_mer_1939.jpg

Does this game have the Canadians unloading at Juno Beach? The sea wall is close and German machinegun bullets hitting the water just around the wading Canadians heads. The boat has doors opening in front, not a ramp going down.

I will say as a gamer myself it’s most likely that they added the additional bunkers and tunnels for level design purposes. These games are usually about 20 hour long stories and realistically on harder difficulties they take about an hour or so to do so im assuming it’s not due to misinformation about the actual size, but perhaps due to the need for more to fill time in the game.

While it is a game it also has become a way that people learn about World War 2 so it would be great if they could get basic items correct. @@WW2TV Just keep in mind there is a certain poetic license here - players do get to choose what uniforms they want to wear and there are certain design elements revolving around balancing game play,. That said, it's the one to one scale map design that as a historian, you should find interesting. Hell Let Loose is still developing so a number of weapons like mortars/tank destroyers etc, are still to be implemented. HLL is a 50 v 50 multiplayer tactical mil sim that relies heavily on teamwork and strategy, so for that reason, you obviously won't see a packed landing craft due to the limitations of current technology. I strongly suggest listening to Dan Carlin's video podcast "The Game of War" which talks about the inherent problems depicting WW2 in a game, and why certain decisions are made. I think it will to some extent, alleviate the frustration that any history lover feels when they see things represented in a manner that is alien to what they already know. If you were to react to any HLL video, type in Omaha Beach Epic Hell Let Loose Cinematic...it gives a nice fly on the wall look at a very iconic location without all the players talking etc. Cheers, Paul, thanks for having such a wonderful channel.
