The average pay for a diver, including jobs where you might weld or burn something is about 25 to 30 dollars per hour. You make all your money usually in over time or in some cases commission. Saturation diving pays the highest wages, but it is not like you are going to be doing saturation diving 365 days a year like you would do at a regular 9-5 job. Deep saturation is a tiny, tiny part of the industry. Commercial diving, especially on air doesn’t “take a huge toll on your body fast”. Been a diver for ten years, what about you?
@@A_Lemon_Party Nah but most people i know that did that kind work have died, and most were young and healthy. Like i said i don't believe it's a death trap but something happen to your body that increases you chance on dying. It can't be just a coincidence know what I mean? Well That's from my experience at least 🤷🏾♂️
If you wanted to go onto saturation diving is there a height limit?
Do you need to have experience welding before you do underwater welding?
Well, I've saw a comment long ago that say "it was easier to teach welder how to dive than teaching diver how to weld"
I’m going to divers institute of tech and you need no experience in diving or welding to get accepted I have no experience and I am scared of deep waters but I want to conquer that fear and am jumping right into it
You don't just "go into" saturation.
When did they stop paying for the first 50ft
Great information there Rico, good job 👍. For me though, I'm stay on dry land because I swim like a rock 😂 hahaha.
i cant swim either lol im low key scared of water
Do NonDestructive technicians dive? Or are the divers trained in multiple practices like welding, cwi, api, ndt etc?
A few people in my family have been ab divers, good money but all have ended up retiring between age 45 and 55 due to cumulative health effects from decompression sickness
Bruh thats perfect, i live in Louisiana and if your doing offshore then its gulf so its at Louisiana, thats great
run, that diving bell looks way old and worn but the tither cord kinda worries me more
Hello friend, how much does a course at a Commercial diving school cost?
great vid and great speaker
Short answer, yes.
Long answer, yes.
Please is there scholarship for underwater welding program
does the water current discuss in this video??
I live in New York city and i'm considering specializing in this welding field after I come out of welding school. Would it be a good idea in this area?
Poor guy, ur state is fuckef
I would look more at being a competent Commercial diver. you need to be able to do so much more then weld. Being able to weld is helpful, but there are dozens of different skills you learn that are just as helpful.
I wanna do this but I don't know how to swim or weld.
Little do y’all know 5% of commercial diving is welding lol
I'm thinking about going to a underwater welding program it's $4900
Informative 👌🏼
I always wanted to do underwater welding but felt it was to expesive and isn't always guaranteed to get a job right after school
Work another job until you land a gig!
Don't waist your time and money with this schools
Is there any smokers in the industry?
How much smoking would affect your diving?
Haw Haw,
In the mid 90s we would pull the diver up quick and be hosing the salt water off as he was saying don't get my cigarette wet four minutes into top side.
That little boy at the beginning of the video makes me want to say “orale homes” just by listening to him talk 😂
really informative, thanks.
Quick question for ya. How many of the welders that apply and pass the course go into the atlantic? And if so does the pay change? Im assuming things above water change but otherwise what are the real differences between nice gulf water and the atlantic besides the water temp that change??
BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how much for enrollment ?
Yea the thing is though, you will be a dive tender for years.. and unless you get on somewhere where seniority doesn't come into play, then good luck. Nice to see you guys learning though.
I’m 35. Would anyone recommend me going to a school for this?
NGL that 31 age cut off got me a little shook. Im 26 about to get into STICK welding hoping to get into underwater welding within 2 years or so depending on how much work and experience i get. I just want to work and make money, I dont really care too much about the danger or "shortened" life/work span. I just hope i get into it in time to make some good money out of it
I have some 2 inch sch 40 pvc to seal in my pool. You can help me
The average pay for a diver, including jobs where you might weld or burn something is about 25 to 30 dollars per hour. You make all your money usually in over time or in some cases commission. Saturation diving pays the highest wages, but it is not like you are going to be doing saturation diving 365 days a year like you would do at a regular 9-5 job. The diving schools have turned the industry into a joke.
@@libturdcrusher1776 25-30 an hour for the shortened life/work span? I make more then that when I get a contract to white hat, not worth it.. IMO anyway.
You're gonna care about that shortened life/work when you get older, bet on that. Especially when/if you spill your gravy in a chick and have a kid to think about.
@@rickyray2794 Yep! I did the crap years ago and made really good money when I did, but I couldn't make it last forever because I had a family to raise and needed to make real money and have some kind of retirement.
I graduated ahwile ago they make it seem like it’s easy to be a diver, you start as a green hat tender takes about 2yrs at LEAST to be a deep sea diver
Cool job but it’s a grind
@@romanjames8229They don't pay enough money
This sounds fun . Who has a pool ? 🤣 I got the engine drive. Awesome video 👍👌its the new word👂
thanks homie!
Stop smoking dope
respect for this content. Very cool aspect of life. A lot of people sacrifice "normal" life for traveling and rig jobs to put food on the table.
yessir you can really make a good living and if you smart and invest your money you can retire at a young age
Don't waist your time and money with this diving schools
@@juancamaney3562 Why do you say that?. I actually want to know cuz im in Houston and i can afford it
@@juancamaney3562 the free way ?meaning be a deck hand and learm that way but not receive the certification?. If you have time give in depth responses cuz i got all day rn. And also what about just going the navy route?
@@juancamaney3562 y do you not like these schools or this one specifically?
Also, is there ever a scenario where a gas shielded process like TIG is needed in underwater welding?
Or a scenario where it's even physically/chemically possible? Haha
I always thought underwater welding was mostly oxyacetylene or oxypropane.
No. its all stick.
I would definitely love to weld underwater. To bad I'm 50 years old. I used to be a good swimmer but that was many moon ago.
I've got a question! Do you have female diver welders? How hard is this job for women? Thank you!
There's a reason this is 100 percent male. Please try elsewhere.
Bro, i'm diver and welder in Brazil. IF i could, i did go now hahahaha.
I was a driver for a few years. Don’t recommend it. It’s a popularity contest out there lol gotta know the right people to get the good jobs.
You like make 16-17 inland cleaning water towers go for it. Lol
Divers school make it sound like you’ll be working making stupid money and that’s not the case, at all.
I made more money as a helper then I ever did in diving.
wow! great info ... man for the guys who go up too 1000ft they are a different breed lol
much respect
Sat rats make goood money!
Got To have a good grasp on reality to do that.
Very very true. I work with a lot of divers offshore. In the Gulf of Mexico there is very little welding underwater. A lot of company’s are only using rov’s. I could go on all day. Every yeah there is less and less diving jobs out there. Not a lot of sat jobs going it cost less money to get an ROV boat out there
@@TheWeldLab What kind of a breed are you ?
I was a tender and a diver for over four years before Katrina Thank you for having the balls and telling the true to this young guys that are not being told the truth 👍
Fire video bro im in new york and shit im dying too get to a diving school just finished my 9month welding program too
Don't waist your time and money with this diving schools
You should buy a deko stick welder and see if it worth to buy
i ben checking them out
The young dark haired guy who asks the questions is sooooooo good looking.
Awesome information! Underwater welding is a young persons game.
You got that right!
I'd be FAR more concerned about giant squid than sharks. Squids are more aggressive than bull sharks! 😵💫
Bolt-up's are so much easier to deal with and easier to repair
Yes I would!
Been UWW = Underwater Welder for going on 32 years now. I’ve worked mostly in the North Sea / GOM= Gulf Of Mexico and the Indian Ocean. And I’ve worked on several Underwater Hollywood Movies.
Why use an abbrev. (Abbreviation) if you're just going to explain what the abbreviation is?
Hey where do u recommend i try to get my first UWW job ?
Awesome video Rico 👌👌👌
Thanks homie ! 🤟🏼
Just a wild guess here but I'm guessing underwater electrodes are far more expensive than standard 6013, am I correct?
Not terribly. They started making a better coating that’s harder which seals much better, but you can literally make your own wax coatings for super cheap.
Stone cold didnt really comfort me talking about sharks. Lol
how can i became a underwater welder?
Risking your life from getting a shark attack everyday for 1500 😮 kind of scary
sharks rarely even attack
My mind is blown
I'm doing that now.
one way or another, they earn every cent of it
yeah they do much respect to them
Damb ricco did it again!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥 working overtime!!
He said “When youre down there BY YOURSELF” ayo fck that i need 3 people minimum down there with me if im welding in the gulf at 2am 😭🗣️💀🗣️🗣️
