    Just built one using your design. ion lithium batteries, built-in charger, gas lift assist on lid, all soldered joints, color coded heat shrink. Only the 4 holes mounting the gimble bracket, no other holes in the box. Used velcro and short screws mounting the black box, also only 2 swiches mounted inside, 1 main power, one for GL-10 black box. Used gimble mount knob from my Lowrance unit (from where I put DS E-Locks on) on transducer to mount to perspective mount.
    Thanks for video!
    Have pics on my FB of the box, came out looking good, nice an clean, even removed stickers and Magellan emblem. Replaced with vinyl pic of crappie an some lettering.

    I love it! I'm using your idea to construct a version with a GPSMAP 8610 and an Amped 30ah battery. I teach people how to use various types of sonar, and this will enable me to teach on the students' boats (or in a classroom setting) without crazy gyrations to re-install equipment. The 8610 allows me to record sessions for later use, or connect via HDMI to an external monitor. Thanks a ton for the terrific idea, and another excellent video. Cheers, Capt. John, SonarAngler

    I would've loved to see a snug piece of plywood at the bottom where you'd fix the black box and battery onto, instead of putting holes through the bottom of the dry box. Not a big deal, but it's just one of those "the easier it is to bring back to factory looks, the better" for me. In that spirit, I personally wouldn't put a switch panel, just a battery isolator inside the box and I wouldn't pass the black box connector through the box, I'd leave it alone. You can't use the sonar if the lid isn't open anyway, so its much better in my opinion to grab the transducer's cable, plug it in inside the box, instead of having to deal with moving the entire box around to plug it in and whatnot. Great setup though

    Did a great job guys. I see you've ran into some hurdles during the build just like I did on mine. Love that box though. One tid-bit of information to think about is the heat that the black box creates. I noticed on mine that the black box gets pretty warm, so keep an eye on that. Those little critters are expensive to replace. LOL

      Thanks for the comment Sam! We are kind of hard headed and wanted to have all of this build all our own concept. 18:16 confirmed by Garmin customer support that the Panoptix LiveScope transducer has a built in PT100 temperature protection circuit. Also if you turn on this transducer momentarily out of the water your not going to over heat and bur it up. You would have to leave it running for an extended period of time likely with the transducer gain turned up to even come close to damage way before this the temp sensor will cut the transmit power to the transducer anyway. Think about it people a bunch of distracted drunk anglers across the land are going to pull the transducer out of the water near shore or boat loading and forget to shut the system down. You really think Garmin want's that many warranty claims and repairs on their hand? Also a tip if you press the power button on your Garmin ECOMAP there is an option to turn off the transducer power but still have the black box powered up. It a easy way to manage this concern while boating for example if your running at speed and have your transducer out of the water but still using your chart plotter for GPS navigating etc... Cheers~

      @g4outdoors  4 роки тому

      Just so you know, we had a Amped 18 amp hr and a Dakota Lithium 10 amp hr in the box with plenty of room left over. Do yourself a favor and put some heavy duty velcro from lowes or some place like that (12lb Velcro). When I tried to take my batteries out to hard mount this to my new boat, I had to take a screw driver to pry the batteries off the velcro. Wicked sticky stuff!! I think you could get away with velcroing the black box down as well for a cleaner setup. try it, if you don't like it, screw'er down. Good luck!!

      G4 Outdoors thanks for the info. Soooo the 18 is the way to go then. Good info. Still not decided if I wanna “hard mount” or portable. Leaning towards hard mount right now but I do not want the extra weight of an additional battery. If the 18 works all day it’s a win win for me I guess. Will make running wires much easier too if I mount it all up front.

      Lowe’s or Home Depot. They are RV door struts. Thanks for the comment!

      The shocks took some time to get them mounted properly. Links are in the description of the exact shocks.

    I like your setup. What is the model battery and how many amps? How long will it last before the battery runs low?

    • @g4outdoors
      @g4outdoors  3 роки тому

      Google “amped outdoors”. They have a full lineup of batteries. I haven’t had the best of luck with Dakota Lithium. Anyway. Amped 18 amp/hr. Their chart shows it capable of running a 9” livescope for 10hrs I think. We went out and used it one day, forgot to put it on the charger, and it still carried us through the next day.

      If you’re talking about the 10” graph, then it would be tight. I’m not sure. Best bet is to buy the cooler / drybox that fits you best.

    So on days where it's drizzling out and raing you got an open cooler sucking up moisture.
    Why not use Toilet bolts, they have a flat oblong washer attached to the bolt .. keeping it flat .
