    lovely chat mate
yes i remember it like it was yesterday, we were in my old studio (the studio i NEVER should have gotten rid of in painful retrospect haha) working on some record....
i asked you something like "how the hell are you getting that amazing sound?.... and you very humbly said "touch mate....touch is everything, i can play one note a thousand different ways"
indeed you can my dear man...and i have witnessed you doing it many many times with my very own eyes

Hey, Jedd, one of the things your friend Buky did was to steer a lot of us over to you. I’m glad of that. For an ordinary guy like me, it’s heartening to hear you speak of touch and individuality. I have a miserable time covering someone else’s song or tone. Have made my peace with noticing how my hands change when I change guitars or amps. I don’t seem to create a tone. It’s just accidental. Thanks for posting these.

You stood out so honestly and grateful for your journey during your interview with Otis I immediately subscribed. It is such a pleasure being a fly on your wall as you shoot the breeze while noodling on guitar. I'm trying to figure out how to send a tip. I'm 70.... so even focusing on the print is a full day... You're great my friend. I enjoy every minute....

Don't let the low ticket sales get you down, Jedd. A few years ago I went to see Stephen Bishop perform in a 300 seat theatre, but only 50 to 70 people were in attendance. It was a solo show (just him and his guitar), he gave us a performance to remember, and I'm sure you'll do the same for your audience.

    Yes! Fantastic!
Loved his tones on that album. This sounds fantastic! You're so good at the subtle touches, ornamentation, and harmonics. Truly a joy to listen to.
I'm happy to know you loved that album as I did.
I remember the work you did on Undercurrent, and how atmospheric your playing was. I'd liked your previous work but you created so much texture and lightplay on that record, it made me appreciate you all the more.
"Not knowing what you're going to do next" makes perfect sense. A lot of your work suprises me. It makes sense and I'm always so glad you chose to go the way you did. Every note, touch, accent, shading is so surprising and satisfying.

I was watching The Sopranos years ago and White Mustang II is in the second season of the show. It floored me. I watched the scene over and over trying to figure it out. We didn’t have a computer so I went to the library and figured out what I was hearing. It still holds a special place in my heart. So cool that you bring it up. You are one of my favorite players. I love what you said about playing acoustically on electric to find your voice. I do this all the time without knowing it was a thing in your development - probably because I grew up so much playing finger-style acoustic & classical... and funny enough I feel like I'm able to be the most free and creative when I'm not plugged in and then later it really comes together when I'm able to plug into a rig.

Actually to me I've always heard a little bit of Punky & Lanois in your playing mate but with your own unique voice coming through, its really special, hence why I dig your style so much.

Definitely a lot to be said about a person's tone. Like Marty Stuart said: it's like a person's signature. Cats like Tony Rice, Vince, Clarence White, Roy Nichols, Ray Flacke, Albert Lee. I could go on and on, but people like that are recognizable in one or two notes. Tonesmiths.

I have long admired that Lanois track, White Mustang II. If you like that, try and track down his series of releases called the Omni series. He was selling them from his website. Mostly instrumental, ambient, kind of stuff. Some of it guitar, some of it steel guitar. (by the way, it’s pronounced “Ah-ca-DEE” French for Acadia, referring to the Maritime provinces in Canada, where I grew up.)

I fully buy into how touch defines so much of one’s identify on their instrument. Some people disparage the “tone is in the fingers” axiom, but it makes great sense to me. However, I struggle with playing without a pick. I need to put the time in to make the transition to playing entirely with bare fingers. Any advice on that technique would be appreciated.

Hi there Jedd, I’m from Melbourne and have just subscribed to your channel. I heard you talking about Jeff Buckley in one of your other vids, where you described having a dance party with your children and wife and then Jeff came on. I think we’ve all experienced a similar fact of circumstance, where Jeff’s spirit dwells momentarily and then flys away again. He was some kind of music savant angel from another sphere. I was very distraught when he passed, as it was his approach to the guitar that changed my thinking toward the instrument. Your playing kind of reminds me of Jeff’s and with particular regard for ‘not knowing ‘ where you’re going with it. Would love to hear you record an album of this. Never know where it will end up. I checked out “Mustang II” which is the song I think you are referring to off Acadie, but I think your playing is even deeper. You probably won’t even read this message, but hey, just thought I’d express my thoughts anyway. I like your vibe man. Nice to see an Aussie, South Australian no less, contributing to the world of classic American country and soul. Respect. 🙏
