- Sky News host Andrew Bolt says a proposal for Indigenous Australians to be exempt from land tax is “extraordinary”.
Prominent Aboriginal Elder Aunty Jill Gallagher said Indigenous people should not be required to pay land taxes or council rates as part of treaty negotiations.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan will not rule out the push ahead of negotiations.
“We should actually thank Gallagher, first of all, for proving that you are going to get an endless ‘gimme gimme’ from this disastrous victim mentality Aboriginal industry,” Mr Bolt said.
“It’s the standard operating procedure.”
I dont care if theyre indigenous, or not. They are australians, treat them as such. Not as some elite group.

I'm an indigenous man (28). I worked 3 jobs for almost 2 years, went to uni and now I own a house. It's crazy that no-one wants to share or hear these stories. It's like 'let's punish those who worked really hard'.

Why didn’t her family have opportunities? My aunt married an Aboriginal man in the 50s, they bought a home and raised 4 children and countless grandchildren, all doing well for themselves.
As. did many Aboriginal people. Some Aboriginal people have become very wealthy and "homes" owners with their low interest rate loans not enjoyed by other Australians.

@@Josma432 Yes there were it was just in a different form. OK so they lived on missions etc but it was still free housing and food, blankets etc . I remember they used to sell the blankets to buy booze and always got taxis home which no ordinary poor white could afford.

Yep, work, my father came from Italy in 1955 with nothing and worked three jobs so he could buy a house for the family.
My grandad did the same
He came from Sicily in 1960 and stayed with a relative working 2 jobs for a whole year so he could afford a deposit on a house and bring my grandma my dad and my aunty and uncle over

My orphaned great great grandfather came with nothing, he worked 15hr days with no shelter, was continuously rearrested and abused, wasn't allowed to marry or own the land he had worked - he eventually bought and worked a farm property and established all his 9 living children with a good education, family homes and dreams! He also created a school for all the local kids, and helped build a church! He paid well in advance for his piece of Australia! Earn it, noone here deserves handouts!!

In my long career as a GP I only ever saw one full blood aboriginal who had a job. All the (many) others were on social security. One of those owns two houses!

The 11 Aboriginals in Australian parliament don't look too badly off on their enormous salaries. Burney owns 7 investment properties and swans around in expensive designer clothes that's pretty wealthy by most Australian family/peoples standards. My parents came to Australia from Europe in the 1950s . They came with no money and very little possessions and no English language . And My father got 20 pounds when he arrived and no other help from the government . They did quite well for themselves thru hard work. Money earned thru hard work is very different to money that gets given to people by governments. So in one generation they went from very poor to owning a farm and that took them about 30/40 years

This would have been hidden detail of the voice. Labor will push a range of bills through to compensate the failure of the voice and more. Take the welfare off the aboriginals and make them earn their living like the rest of us. Throwing more money at them is not going to help. Anyhow, since there is no requirement for an evidence based claim to aboriginal heritage, I might tick the box next time and claim some benefits🙂

Absolutely ludicrous and racist. All taxes should be based on income, not racial or cultural background. Plain and simple. Otherwise it's a breach of the Racial Discrimination Act. I agree that land tax is getting ridiculous, as is stamp duty. There should be tax relief, but based on income from your previous financial year, not based on racial or ethnic identity which is utterly divisive and offensive. I suggest it should be on a sliding scale with a commencing threshold, just like the regular tax system. For example, say the tax free threshold starts at $40K, thus if you earn over $40K you pay land tax, stamp duty and capital gains taxes on a sliding scale for every dollar above that set threshold.
Little wonder that consecutive censuses noted a massive growth in people identifying as indigenous.

I was born in Wales, and I've just read 'Unruly - A history of England's Kings and Queens' by author, actor, comedian, David Mitchell.
