I have a few of them getting ready to flower, but I was mostly concerned about the one with a ew growth. I will follow your advice and stop watering it waiting for new roots to grow and then start growing as if it were spring. Hope it will work.
Great! My Tiawan Gold just lost its flowers and now will not be watered. My Jumbo Grace has 3 spikes so I also had wall bump issues. I thought I potted her high enough. Guess not! 🤣 Happy New Year dear 🎆🎉🎊🥂🥳🍾
Hello, Stephen! Thank you for your wonderful and very informative videos. May I ask for advice? I have a lovely Catasetum macrocarpum. Blooms regularly and has big pseudobulbs. I have had him for about 4-5 years now. But he is a little reticent regarding entering dormancy. Sometimes he will continue doing his thing (growing and blooming), through the winter even if a bit slower. The temperatures during our winter (Madrid, Spain) drop to 15°C, which should be cold enough to trigger proper dormancy, but it doesn't. Do you have any idea of what I could be doing wrong? The rest of my Catasetinae gang enter dormancy quite punctual around november-december, but my C. macrocarpum is unruly. Thank you in advance! I love your videos!
This species doesn't need quite the same hard dormancy as others. I say if its happy and doing well, let it tell you when it wants water! Sounds like you're doing everything right!
I have the same problem with Cycnoches pentadactylon as you're having with mattogrossense. For me, it has a VERY short dormancy period, about six weeks, and then it starts a new growth. I'm hoping to see blooms on it this year, third year from a single bulb seedling.
I have nine that are already starting new growth. it got down to about 38 here where I am in Florida. All plants were moved in to the garage and unheated sun room for about a week. Now it's back up into the 80's. . The benefits of living in Florida. 😂😂😂😂
Great video as always Stephen! On the westcoast Canada, I grew mine outside on my balcony until fall night temps dropped below 15C. At that point I put them on my apt. grow shelf (average day temps 23C/night often 21C humidity 65-70%). I started limiting water by Dec. except for my Cyc. Wine Delight blooms opening now and spike developing spike on SVO 9597 ctsm × ctsm. I have competely quit watering except the Wine Delight and ctsm. Very little leaf loss thus far. Last weekend I pulled most of my 13 collection off the shelf and put them on my windowsill. No water!!! (lowest temps 19C, can't get lower in apt. Window already cracked and whisper of breeze from fan. Humidity 70+% lol) Should I completely stop watering the Wine Delight? I recall one video about ctsms grown in Hawaii where they get water/rain all year outside with temps above 55F(?) so I'm relating that to what is actually going on in my environment for them. Happy New Year to you as well! I'd completely stop watering all your Catasetums at this point! The Hawaiian growers can keep their plants a bit wetter due to the warm temps, plus complex hybrids are more forgiving of wetter winter conditions.
Both catasetums have gone into dormancy but the clowesetum is still growing with very green leaves, So no water for the catasetums and am still watering the clowesetum. Hope that's right... Enjoyed the video ... thanks!

You'll love the scent on the Jumbo Grace! Potting them at the right height is tough and I don't get it right either lol

Some of them have really short dormancies! Hopefully you get blooms this year though.

Oh, question do you repot them after they bloom or leave as they are until they start with new roots coming out approaching spring? 😊
I always wait until spring! My preference is to repot just as the new growth pops out, before the roots start growing.
