Wapiti Creek trail - Lightning Lake Loop

- This is a beautiful hiking area that has trail most of the way. But there is some off-trail areas mainly because nobody hikes in some of the places, so you will have to use your navigation skills. There is a chance of seeing people on the Lightning Lake trail and the beginning of the Wapiti trail. But the area that I have my bear spray out, the upper portions of the trail, I have never seen a hiker. This is a great area to see grizzly bears and black bears. I saw the grizzly in this video about 1 mile away, but as you will see, there is grizzly evidence everywhere. This area is to the northwest of Yellowstone National Park.
How to start a Thursday: I open up my exercise app and find a Stan Mills hike instead. Making it a great day. Thx Stan.
I learn so much every video of yours I view. Thanks for all your efforts.
I so enjoy you sharing your hikes. It reminds me of hiking in the mountains as a girl with my dad. He would stop to point out the kind of things you share. Thank you
Always a treat to follow you Stan, i plan to retire within a year or so and spend my spare time in this beautiful country.
I've backpacked about 700 miles in Yellowstone, and I am fascinated with it.
You are a brave brave man! I was holding my breath that whole walk!! 🐻🫣🐻
Beautiful hike Stan! Thanks for sharing the hike and your gear!
My hiking days are over. I have been hiking vicariously through your videos. Thank you
As always, love the videos. But as much as I love the videos, it also makes not being in Yellowstone doing the same that much harder! Nothing like sitting here working but dreaming of Yellowstone.
Ditto!
Just spent 2 weeks in YNP and GTNP. Your videos keep me connected in between trips. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome and unnerving at the same time! Truly beautiful country thank you, Stan! 👍😎🇨🇦🌲💧🐻
Quite a suspense, beautiful sight to watch, bears, snakes, ticks, foggy weather, great video as always, thank you 🙏🏻, stay safe 👍
The view is always outstanding. The wildflowers were beautiful.
So that’s what grizzly scat looks like, I learned something today. Thanks for the information.
Hey my friend, I just really got into this video and it was over BUMMER!!!
I sincerely could watch your super fascinating videos one after another for hours on end, I am so happy that I found your channel, it's exceptional, thank you my friend! 🤗
Didi, thank you very much.
@@StanMills You are very welcome my friend, please take care, and keep those awesome videos coming if you don't mind, they are extremely exceptionally entertaining! 🖒🤗 🖒
Thanks for another great video, Stan.
I love these. Just incredible.
Wow what a nice hike . A lot of adventure in that area. Glad the fog lifted thank god. Nice tracks an fresh scat . Exciting and what a great time hiking that summer day.nice scenery an pretty flower’s. Enjoyed watching great job nice long hike. Thank you.
I could watch your videos all day …. Oh wait, I do!
Love your new camera, Stan! Great video!!!
I believe it when you say fresh scat, no need to focus on it. Lol. Stay safe Stan and Blessings all.
I want you to see how fresh scat looks different from older scat. If you watch my videos you will see a lot of older scat.
@@StanMills I understand. At 65 years of age and a school teacher the last 23 years, I've seen every kind of scat there is, and ducked most of it. Lol. Thank you for your wonderful videos. I intend to show some of them to my 2nd/3rd graders this year if that's okay with you ( the scat will be very popular ).
@@bloodyeyeful Of course. This is an educational channel. That is a great job being a school teacher.
@@bloodyeyeful Oh, one other thing, I just now got back from a hike that I was doing to show how to find grizzly bears. I did find one. So maybe my next video will be about how to watch for bear signs, where to find them, and what to do after you see one to stay safe. But I haven't looked at my videos yet to see if they are any good, but hopefully they are.
@@StanMills I've been watching you for at least a couple of years. I am awed by your attitude. Your videos are inspiring. Keep it up. My kids will love them.
Stan’s thinking about making himself some strawberry jam! 😉
Stan, thank you once again for sharing the glory and goodness of god on display in the Greater Yellowstone. The flowers…wow! Boots - I love my Kenetrek boots and gators. The boots are the most comfortable I have ever worn. Stay safe. Blessings, Lori Lee
Always enjoyable videos. Thanks Stan
You make me miss the Yellowstone area but pray we’ll be back someday 🙏
Another great one, Stan! Thank you. Do you ever have an art signing show/ conference where your followers could actually come up to meet you? If you have a website, I can not seem to find it showing a gallery of your work.
August is so pretty with the beautiful flowers. I have not been there in August, but would like to see YNP at that time. I did a winter trip and an Oct/Nov trip there. Such a spectacular place.
Genie, you can send me an email to StanMillsWildlifeArt@gmail.com and I will send you a PDF file that has all of the information about the prints that I sell. And thank you for your nice comments.
Beautiful as always.
Are those river water safe to drink? It looks like they are. Nice trails, be safe.
Most likely they are but normally I still run the water through a filter system.
Thank you Stan! God bless.
I wonder if the bears ever turn around the trail signs? 👍🇬🇧
STAN: YOU JUST WENT FROM AN EXCELLENT VIDEOGRAPHER TO THAT, PLUS AN INFORMATIVE AND EXCITING TO WATCH MOVIE MAKER! THANKS!! P.S. OVER THE PAST YEARS, I HAVE BEEN VERY CLOSE (10 YARDS) TO NUMEROUS GRIZZLIES IN THAT AREA!!🙂
Why are you screaming?
@@randallmarsh1187 easier typing for me.
What filtration system do you use to treat the water you drink from the streams? Another fascinating hike into the Yellowstone ecosystem, thank you Stan
A lot of the creeks in that area you can drink from without any filtration.
i wouldn't recommend that. I've read stories about the NPS using chemicals to kill non-native fish in the Yellowstone ecosystem.
@@thomashimes644 This isn’t inside the National Park. They have only done that to a couple streams to restore native populations, it’s extremely well documented. My general rule of thumb is…if I know what’s between me and the source of water then it’s good to go.
Another very enjoyable video.
We were just along for the ride and could really enjoy the wild flowers without having to worry about grizzlies ourselves.
Well good morning, Bulwinkle!
The this area! It’s where I do most of my elk hunting. Not many people around
Wapiti is the local word for Elk for those who are unaware.
It’s Native American
Seems like the first animal encounter in your early AM videos is usually a moose.
Does that mean anything that the black bear followed you like that?
Are your pants cotton/canvas? That's what they look like.
You try to be very quiet when you suspect a grizzly is in the area. Others say you should make noise so they know you are there. Just curious why you try to be quiet?
Yup
Wapiti wapi wapi
I'm confused why you were being so quiet when you knew a Grizzly was near? I thought the objective always was to make your presence known?
So I don't get attacked?
@@StanMills Hi Stan, please understand I'm not trolling...I know you are experienced... I just always read that you want to make sure the bear knows you are there before you stumble upon them and startle them.
Would you ever lead two others with you perhaps?
excellent videos but the audio could use some improvement. Speak up.
You miss the point there dan . No loud talking on Stan’s hikes. Whispers.
