Just a side note for anyone thinking of following this guide: I'd recommend laying the larger crushed concrete first, and then adding the type 1 and compacting that. This way, you will have a flatter and more level surface to lay your slabs. You will also save on the amount of mortar you will need.
You might need a smaller trowel' the laser level is a good job, what happens if you need the path to fall over a distance, can the level be set for a run off?
