I mean yeah, all the characters look amazing but what completely boggles my mind is all that foliage, leaves, grass blades, and branches, are computer generated and animated by some artists. totally insane and utterly unmatched while still unbelievable :D
The visuals were amazing
James Cameron: "I'm gonna make Native Americans fighting the Vietnam War in Star Trek with a bit of the Twilight Zone."
People: "You can't do that."
James Cameron: "Watch me."
Love that
It's so nice to see a reaction from someone who truly appreciates movies!
Thank you very much.
It was snowing really hard when this came out. My brother said we HAD to go despite the roads. We drove the 45 mins to the "good" theater and we were the only ones there. We had the entire theater to ourselves. This movie blew me away. I kept getting up and moving closer to the screen since no one was there haha. When the movie was over and we went outside there was several fresh inches of snow on the ground. Such a wonderful night! Proud of you, James, for knowing 3 actors in this movie.
4!
My first date with my partner of 12 years was seeing this movie in 3-D. I knew nothing about it and had it confused with that Last Airbender trash movie. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. The 3-D was masterfully done as well, really adding to the realism and immersion rather than just being a gimmick like usual.
@@kevinw.6177 Oh my goodness, yes! This was the absolute best in 3D!- What an experience!👌😉 I was seein as many movies as I could in 3D @ the time & nothing compares!😊 Lookin 4d 2 the next 1's now!👍 Lotsa good vibes from Australia friend xo 🤗 💜🇦🇺
No it was actually 4 actors that James recognized…at the scene where Jake, Grace, and Norm were escaping with Trudy and Jake asks Max to stay at the base so that he can have someone in the inside that he can trust he recognized the actor who plays Max was also in the movie Inception!
That's a lovely story.❄
This movie first time in IMAX 3D is still far and away the best movie experience I have ever had. I was exhausted after I got out of there.
You can watch it in true 3D again with a VR headset. And it's brighter!
At the time, this was the most expensive movie ever made (due to the amount of CGI involved) and was absolutely cutting edge. It's still as impressive. Glad you enjoyed it.
Very impressive
The climax. Eywa: "Fine. I'll do it myself"
The best cinema experience I've ever had was watching this in IMAX 3D
oh man, I didn't get 3D
@@AwesomeUSMovies that's ok. It's coming back to the theater September 23rd
I wonder if you would like "District 9".
It's a super original way of doing a sci fi alien movie. It's really awesome, but also brilliant.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Oh, District 9 will cook his melon GOOD!
@@dmanimousprime3858 haha for sure
@@dmanimousprime3858 oooh i missed it in 3D
@@mcfmcf4038 Sorry, had that in the wrong thread. I meant Avatar in 3D! Don't remember if I saw District 9 in 3D or if there was even a 3D version of it!
I never got the "Don't play with that, you'll go blind" joke until just now. Thanks dude 🤣
Look at you knowing four actors! I'm so proud of you lol. And so happy you got a sponsorship! Keep on keeping on!
Thank you so much for your support
I always assumed it would literally make him blind because it's an extension of his nervous system
@@anikiikardia8279 I guess I figured it might physically put his eye out? 😂
It’s coming out again (remastered) in the theaters. I can’t wait! Such a beautiful film - so visually stunning, especially for the time, but it still is.
This movie was so beautifully shot, and there are some good lessons to learn from it regarding the environment and such. :) You should have seen it in 3D when it came out - stunning. I had such fun watching this with you 😂
Thanks for watching!
A really fun movie. Arguably “Pocahontas in space”, but still so creative, especially in the world building
It’s Pocahontas meets Ferngully. Both of which are way better imo. Visuals are cool. But unoriginal story which is what ruined it for me.
@B.L. Alley I don’t mind a story being retold, especially ones that should be (it’s why we have Holocaust/WW2 movies every couple years), as long as it’s retold well. For me, Avatar just wasn’t. Again cool visuals/world building, & if it hadn’t been sooo overhyped & projected as the best movie ever & making the most money (beating Titanic & the like), it probs woulda been a more enjoyable film for me if I’d just randomly seen it on TV or something, or if I was a kid seeing it. But a film to be a good film needs more then to be good looking for me. I felt little to no emotion for any of the characters, the plot dull, the acting..not so good (which was disappointing cause I do quite like a few of the actors in this movie) etc. Just on the whole isn’t my cup of tea.
I liked it a lot
They did an amazing job with the alien flora and fauna
agreed
What I loved about Avatar the most was how the beginning forest scenes reminded me of scuba diving with my son. I knew that James Cameron was a true ocean explorer and I realized that his vision for this film had to be inspired by what he had seen in the oceans. I felt a real connection with the places my son and I had been diving since we were both certified some years before Avatar came out. Exploring coral reefs looks so much like the scenes Cameron produced. This is a wonderful film, James, and I hope you enjoyed it too. Peace.
Avatar is widely regarded as the best movie in the world. It is currently the record holder as the highest grossing movie ever, having passed Avengers Endgame when China decided to replay Avatar in theaters because they liked it so much. Glad you got to see it. Great reaction.
Hopefully the second one coming out this year will be even half as good as the first one.
It was amazing
Its one of my personal favorite movies of all time! Im not sure if anyone has mentioned it but James Cameron had a dream of a bioluminescent forest when he was 13 years old and wrote it down in a journal. Years later that dream became the world of Pandora. Amazing what our minds can create
I remember seeing this for the first time in the theater and being in awe of it. It hasn't lived up to my first viewing in the few times I've seen it since, but it's still a great movie.
James Cameron poured so much into this film, ground breaking tech from a movie making perfective!
"Where are all these trees coming from?" The ground? XD
Yeah but like HUGE trees. Holy SH*T that is a big tree trees.
Surrogates is a 2009 movie where people live in the safety of their homes while their robot surrogates do their work for them. Has Bruce Willis, Radha Mitchell, Rosamund Pike and maybe a guy at the bar. You'd like it.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
I'm so happy UA-cam recommended your channel to me. Your reactions really are like just your stream of consciousness as you watch... it's like you let your inner kiddo out to play and it's so much fun to watch.
Wow, thank you!
Can you imagine Avatar being in 3-D? I saw Avatar th first time it came out. I LOVED it!!!! Avatar 2-The way of the water is coming out December 22 2022. I hope it's in 3-D as well.
This is one of my all time favorite movies. I went to watch it without even seeing a trailer for it, so I went in completely blind and it blew me away. Ended up watching it 3 times at the theaters. I'm really excited for Avatar Way of the Water that comes out this December! Can't believe it's taken this long for part 2 to come out, so I'm sure the visuals will be even more stunning for sure!
This movie's graphics still hold up. Love the storyline. Makes you look at the world differently.
I have watched this movie in Theaters 3 times... The cinematography was so amazing I could drown in it forever! Thank you for doing this. 😊
Cameron worked on this for years …he had to wait till technology caught up for him to make it.
That's cool
If you ever go to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando, they have an Avatar exhibit. It’s so immersive and you feel like you’re in the movie. It’s so cool to see the exotic plants and lights. I didn’t even know it existed until we wandered into that portion of the park.
You know why your channel is Awesome US Movies? Because you are awesome. We are so glad that you liked the movie palette
Thanks again!
Oh, I am so happy I got to see this in theater with the Real3D. So breathtaking. Not much popping OUT of the screen, but instead like looking INTO the screen and seeing an actual doorway in to this stunning world.
James, I don't know if you have been to a theater with modern 3D technology, but if not try to find a good 3D film and see watch it in theater. They have come a LONG way from the old red/blue lenses, even a long way from the old gray 3D. No more blurry double vision, even if you tilt your head. My glasses always got in the way back then, but no longer an issue. Truly breathtaking 3D tech these days.
Yeah our science center has an IMAX 3D. Someone said they are re-releasing this in theaters. I might have to go watch
Seeing this in 3D@ the cinema when it came out was breathtaking, such a treat for your eyes and very emotional sci-fi film ever made. Also if u were not recycling before then u sure would be after watching this film.
James Cameron has always pushed the boundaries of special effects with his movies -- and you've reacted to a lot of them -- True Lies, The Abyss, Aliens, Terminators 1 & 2, Titanic, this movie. People forget that James pioneered the use of CGI way before they were pretty common.
This movie not only pushed whats possible with CGI (using it to animate the environment and set itself) it also garnered a lot of critical praise for highlighting the plight of colonies versus the colonizers. This represented minorities like American Indians who are still fighting to keep their lands from the greed of capitalists.
I remember seeing this movie back in 2010 I believe in IMAX 3D and just being blown away by the 3D parts. I truly think they should bring back Avatar to the theaters again just for that experience. But Avatar 2 should be coming out sometime soon after such a long wait.
that's awesome
Going to see this when it was new was mind boggling. Really was a “the future is now” kind of thing!
Recommendations: (1) Arachnophobia (1990); (2) Hacksaw Ridge (2016); and (3), rewatch Avatar on an IMAX-size screen in 3D next month when it's re-released into theaters!
You also may enjoy James Cameron's The Abyss (1998).
The Avatars are built broader and more muscular, have ten fingers and toes, and eyebrows.
I already reacted to The Abyss it was amazing.
This is one of my all time favorite movies! Glad you got to watch it!
It's so good!
It’s my favorite movie as well!
James Cameron has written & directed some of the best films in movie history! The first two Terminator films, Aliens (that's where you recognized Sigourney from!), The Abyss, True Lies, Titanic & Avatar! And now there are more Avatar films on the way - finally! I'm glad you catch up in time. The first sequel comes out in December. Been waiting 11 years for it.
I really wanna see what you feel about Titanic. Another masterpiece. If you have a romantic heart it is for you. If you like catastrophe films, it is for you. If you like history, it is for you.
I think the only one I haven't seen at this point is True Lies. I've reacted to the rest of them and Titanic is coming out Friday.
Amazing movie. I saw in theaters probably 5 times. Only film I've seen in theaters more might be Titanic and maybe The Hunchback of Notre Dame. And I wasn't the only one, which is why it made so much money. But just a really, really superb film and cinematic experience. It was incredible seeing it on the big screen in IMAX 3-D or something like that, feel bad that you had to see it the first time on your TV or computer monitor. If they ever do a re-release do yourself a favor and go see it in 3-D on the biggest screen you can find.
There are a lot of haters for this movie out there. Mostly... these people are just spiteful. This happens whenever a film is super super successful, then there are children (emotionally) who didn't like the movie quite as much who see the need to try and tear it down. So... in 1997 Titanic became the highest-grossing film of all time, was just a massive monster success, #1 at the box office for months on end. Tied All About Eve for most Oscar noms in history, then got the most Oscar wins in history (later tied with Return of the King). And same thing happened: people love to hate on that movie even though it was objectively amazing.
It took ELEVEN years for Titanic's box office record to be broken... and... not surprisingly... it took James Cameron coming out of semi-retirement to do it. (he had stopped making blockbuster films after Titanic and turned to deep sea exploration and documentaries) But Avatar totally crushed Titanic's previous box office records. It also went on to get a ton of awards and even got nominated for Best Picture (though it didn't win like Titanic did). So... to the people who thought it didn't deserve this... they got angry and started posting their anger online. They still are.
Anyway... there is maybe ONE valid criticism of this film, and it's that it is somewhat derivative in terms of plot. But... in my opinion... that's just because the plot is a great archetype... lone guy goes to some different alien "enemy" culture... learns their ways... starts to empathize with them... later fights against his own people... the most commonly cited film that is very similar is Dances with Wolves with Kevin Costner (Field of Dreams), but Cameron wrote the story to Avatar before Dances with Wolves was in theaters. It's just a very striking coincidence. But then... look at other films like The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise, or Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O'Toole... they're also quite similar. And there are many more. All three of these films are worth watching by the way, even if you've already seen Avatar, all great movies in their own right even if the plots are "derivative." Didn't the write in the Bible that there was nothing new under the sun?
Glad you liked it. Have you fully come around on the issue of CG in films now? Haha. Pretty much this whole movie was CG. You said the visuals were amazing. No way in hell they could have done anything similar with practical effects. Even stuff like Jake's skinny legs, obviously done with CG.
Looking forward to your reaction on Titanic. Jim Cameron is an absolute master of his craft. I think I've already recommended his entire filmography before so should be on your list.
Thanks for the comment
In the story treatment it says Pandora is in orbit of a gas giant around Proxima Centauri. Pandora's atmosphere has too high CO2 for humans. There actually is a gas giant in orbit of that star, so Pandora is just a bit plausible. Now they know what to name the moon when it is discovered. There is a (flat) extended cut of Avatar that shows a lot of interesting extra content; what earth is like, the school house they talk about, and more creatures (a cool hunting scene) that were swapped out in some scenes for the theatrical cut, and more. Avatar is on 3D blu-ray (theatrical cut) and is excellent. JC had so much faith in the VFX that many of the sets are only half built (e.g. the link room).
That's really interesting thank you so much for this comment
One of the best if not the best film experience for myself....in 3d...it was gorgeous and the action was too notch....when it was over I just say there and was like....that was 3 hours....i want another 6 hours of this....
I guess more are coming based on comments
5 or 6 total coming from what i understand. The 2nd and 3rd movie were filmed at the same time with the 2nd movie coming later this year or early next year
Avatar was absolutely mind-blowing when it came out. Seeing it in theaters was amazing. Loved how excited you got! I did the exact same thing when I saw it first time. Love your reactions mate! Take care!

The moment the planet and all its wildlife fully turns against the humans is such a crowd-cheering moment. It's so satisfying.

I was just amazed when I saw this in theatres. It was so beautiful. My friend and I mistakenly went on the premiere and had to wait until midnight to get in. Then we didnt get home until 3:30 am
James Cameron is such a brillant director. It must of been crazy to move back and forth between the sizes difference seamlessly as he was able. I love the story. The actors were amazing. It kept my attention without missing a beat. Great renew!
I took my son to see this at an IMAX theater in San Fracisco when he was 14. He and I enjoyed it very much.
I got to see this for the first time in a IMAX theater in 3D and it was absolutely incredible I was so blown away. That first scene when they're in space and the water droplets are just kind of floating around I felt like I was there with him it was absolutely incredible!
Sounds amazing
It's a shame you missed this experience in IMAX 3D. James Cameron is the master of 3D cinematography. Avatar is the best 3D movie... so far. Hopefully, you'll get to see the sequel on the big screen with the rest of us.
FYI, Avatar made me feel the same way. I felt like a kid again
This is definitely a theater movie if there ever was one, glad I got to see it on the big screen. Love the videos.
It's getting a re-release in theaters on Sep 23. It can be seen on IMAX 3D or 3D.
I appreciate what James Cameron created with this film. I also happen to be a huge James Cameron fan. I had high hopes for this film. It debuted right before I left for a stint as an English teachers in South Korea. Everyone was hyping this movie up so much that I just could not watch it in the theaters, not after how I felt with Iron Man. So, I decided to wait and watch it on DVD when it was released. I was still underwhelmed. I had hoped that by letting the hype die down and watching it on my own, I would enjoy it. Unfortunately, it just did not click with me. I really wanted it to, but something about it just does not sit well with me. Loved the special effects and I felt that the cast was great, and Cameron told an interesting story, but there is just something about it that leaves me feeling let down.
I really suggest you go watch this movie again when they re-release it in September, and if you can be sure to watch it in 3D and IMAX if it is available. So very worth it. This was one of 2 movies I have seen in 3D that I would actually pay to see in 3D again. The other was the 3D release of Jurassic Park. Normally I really dislike 3D movies and avoid the 3D option at all costs, but I watched this 4 times in 3D in theater.
I bet 3D would be amazing
@@AwesomeUSMovies the subtle additional details I noticed blew my mind the first time I saw it in 3D. Also the absence of any scene, that I remember, that was the 'oooo look it's 3D and something is flying at you' bit that breaks immersion for me every time, helped.
Did you know that Colonel Miles Quaritch is Stephen Lang and he plays Ike Clanton in the movie Tombstone? Fun fact. Great content as always!
Haven't watched that yet
@@AwesomeUSMovies highly recommend it!

This movie is amazing had to watch it for my English class in college
Watched it in 3d cinema on acid when it first came out the second time was a better experience.
Holy cow I bet it messed with your brain
Have you given up now on getting through the MCU? The only film to come close to breaking Avatar's record was Avengers: Endgame... and... in my opinion it really deserved it. But the reason why Avengers: Endgame was SO GOOD was that it was the payoff to 10 years worth of films that came before it, all building toward it. If you just jump straight to it it won't hit nearly as hard.
Nobody watched MCU stuff on my channel
@@AwesomeUSMovies really? huh. That's what originally brought me to your channel. but okay.
I will never understand why people celebrate this movie the way they do.
"it might be a two-parter!"
Well, I can't see anyone on this side being disppointed about that, though I do understand it must be a big pile of work for you. Cheers! You are awesome.
I really really had to cut a lot out of this one and Titanic. These movies are LONG!
Great reaction video as always James. Yeah this was a good movie. I don't know if it should have won the Best Picture that year because I liked the other nominees more but it was still a really solid movie!
Most definitely
The animation is awesome!
Love this movie! Yeah the graphics are awesome!
Sort-of Avatar connected - but did I blink, or was there a Titanic watch the other day? I watched your San Andreas (I love that film!), and was convinced there was a Titanic post. Came back...zippo? Did someone reach out and make you...an offer you couldn't refuse?
oh... re: the "fight terror with terror" line... this was a bit obviously and on-the-nose attempt to draw parallels between what was happening in the film and what was happening at the time with the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and George W. Bush's greater "war on terror." There are a couple other lines in the film that do the same thing, too. Cameron didn't approve of these wars, I think.
You're right that in the film it doesn't make a lot of sense. But then if you watch the extended cut of the movie it makes a little more sense as this scene comes after another scene (that was cut) where the Navi raid a human mining camp and destroy a lot of their equipment. So the humans had more reason to feel like they were under attack.
The extended cut also features footage of Grace's old classroom (abandoned) where she was teaching English to the Navi. Presumably Neytiri was one of her students. And there's a pretty cool scene where Jake and the Navi all go hunting very reminiscent of the buffalo hunting scene from Dances with Wolves (the DWW scene is better.... one of the most incredible scenes in all of film history IMO, 100% shot in-frame)
I might have to watch extended. I loved this movie
Pretty good movie first time watching aswell
I just found your channel today and love it. You are such a good, fun, and enjoyable person. You need to watch the best western movie "Tombstone". You will be quoting Doc Holliday lines to your kids.

Great video as always!
Excellent reaction, James 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Pandora is truly stunning!

Ok James, I just wanna say, I spent so much time just browsing moviepalette, that place is crazy cool! I'm definitely going to have to invest in one (at least) of those.
Btw, James, James Cameron is the same director who made The Abyss, which you watched on the channel back in the "early days", and that was the movie I recommended to you and you gave me a shoutout (if you recall). Nice reaction buddy!
Yeah The Abyss was an amazing movie. I forgot he had directed it.
@@AwesomeUSMovies other Cameron-directed films are The Terminator and its sequel T2: Judgment Day, Aliens (the sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien), True Lies, and Titanic.
He also directed Piranha II: The Spawning (very early in his career) but we don't talk about that one.
After Titanic he made the documentaries Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep about deep sea organisms. Pretty cool. He was really into deep sea diving for a while; even developed some of the tech that made it possible.
He has a producer credit on Alita: Battle Angel. He was supposed to direct that... was sitting on the project for years and never got around to it... eventually handed it off to someone else.
He also produced Solaris, Strange Days, and Point Break. All great films.
Movie Suggestions: Auntie Mame (1958), Dark Crystal (1982):
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion. Thanks for adding the years
This is a great movie but I definitely forget it exist.... Maybe the second one will be great
It was a good movie I've watch. A reaction was good in that movie. 😍
My mother and I saw this in 3D it was awesome!
I bet it was
This movie was the first time 3D REALLY brought another level in the movie theater. It truly added to the immersion. GRAVITY is the only other filmI can think of where 3D really paid off!
