Zafonic was electrifying on this day. Barathea went on to win the Breeder's Cup Mile yet was made to look very ordinary as Pat Eddery sent Zafonic about his business. Fantastic commentary from GG as well....5*stars
What a race it would be to have Dancing Brave, Zafonic, Frankel, Sea the Stars, Nashwan, Pennekamp, Nijinsky, El Gran Senor, Rodrigo De Triano, Rock of Gibralter, Kameko and Brigadier Gerrard in it...The question is....who would win? Forget the times of their respective races....just on their respective performances in the race.
@@danbrown5456 The only reason I ask is that both Zafonic and Rainbow Quest were owned by Khalid Abdullah and were bred by Juddmonte Farms, which is his breeding operation. And both stood as stallions at Banstead Manor Stud too.
There are many people talking up a lot of horses to give Frankel a race. IMHO this is the only guineas horse I've seen to have given Frankel a problem. Not perhaps in the Queen Anne but in his guineas...... Zafonic had that ability to cruise fast and lick off it.
@@seanscanlon9067 I was a massive DB fan and inded he could kick off a fast pace. I don't beleive Quealy when he said there was more in Frankel's tank at the end of the guineas and DB with a long run up and his stamina would be probably be there as well.
Second favourite Guineas of all time. Strange to think that Kingman is at best the 3rd best miler that the Prince has ever owned. And that would annoy fans of Dancing Brave, Zilzal and Warning.
Oh wow remember this so well ☺what a great horse Zafonic was.

Zafonic was a brilliant horse, but let’s no forget the brilliant commentary from the great Graham Good. One of the finest ever.
Supersonic Zafonic, he was just brilliant this day.
superb horse and commentary
Zafonic truly would take on all the great milers of any generation a tremendous racehorse.
On his day.
The best I’ve seen
I was there. Thank you for a quality upload, espmadrid. The full vid includes ME around the paddock. :)
Me too. The fastest horse I’ve seen. Brilliant
Love how you structure these great videos, espmadrid. Thank you.
Very impressive. Note no sponsorship here in this '93 renewal. It started in 1984 with an insurance company, General Accident.
Such a great and fantastic horse ! ps..... listen to the commentary....... fantastic too :)
Superstar miler with a brilliant turn of foot.
Race very well described by Graham Goode.

Brilliant horse 👍👍👍👍
I was there! Even in the paddock he seemed to be intimidating the other horses.
Barathea was no mug either. Glad that horse got his day in the sun in the BC mile.
Zafonic had a wonderful turn of pace
No Raleigh Gilbert on commentary at the start just Graham Goode for the full race
Amazing horse best miler since Tudor Minstrel
After el gran senor
I saw Zafonic and Rainbow Quest at Sheikh Mohammed's yard when they were both at stud, circa 1998.
I think you might mean Prince Khalid Abdullah.
No. Definitely Sheikh Mohammed.

Until Frankel come along, the best 2000 Guineas winner that I'd seen.
For me better than Frankel on the day.
Dancing Brave?
@@tomconway2377 Seriously?????????
Sea the Stars the best flat horse I’ve seen. Awesome
@@seanscanlon9067 not over a mile
Super horse probably in the top 5 of milers ever, with Kris, Frankel,Tudor Minstrel,Bahram

Zilzal wasn't an Abdullah horse!
Mana al Maktoum I think!
Rob Mac You're right of course. Not sure what I was thinking. Helluva horse too.
Dancing Brave would have beaten Kingman.
