Thanks, Tom and Phil! A great reminder that I've got to get out to my blueberries and prune them before they go dormant in the fall. I can confirm: that Pink Lemonade is a tasty cultivar!
DQuoc Nguyen hi, there is a nursery in VA that sells Dave Wilson plants. I just ordered several DWN fruit trees, and strawberry plants from one of the nurseries here in GA, that sells their plants. www.davewilson.com/home-gardens/where-to-buy/retail-nurseries-outside-california?page=1 ediblelandscaping.com is in VA.
Wonderful timely advice for a newbie. My blues are a few weeks in the ground, I’ve seen some pruning videos, but when to do what the first year hasn’t been a feature elsewhere. Thanks.
Yes, they would work together in one container. Just be sure to keep the plants pruned to where the canopy of both together get no larger than 150% of the container size.
Thank you for letting us know when they will ship out to the stores. I was too late this year to buy the patio variety of raspberry shortcake. My independent garden center sold out but rest assured I will be getting all of the patio varieties this fall.
100000% agree on blueberries as starter plants for people. They are also incredibly productive if taken care of. Our Blueberry bushes give us several pounds of fruit every year.
so - have watched many of your videos this morning --- wonderful and informative. It seems no one carries the blackberry/blueberry/raspberries that you have been speaking about here in TX - North Dallas (8A) --- where can I find ~ excited to try these. Thanks in advance.
I saw a bare root Blueberry plant, I could ignore the price, so I bought it. I planted it in a large 18" W pot. accidentally I broke one small branch as I was working. Used a very good potting soil mixed with a good soil that has those white granules. It has been two weeks, it is growing, full of lovely leaves ibig amounts. I need to know what to fertilize with and should I be aware of pests? it's at the edge of a vegetable garden, full sun. I am in San Marcos CA. Thanks for your response.
Hello, I went to buy some of your blueberries and berry plants. All good, except there is a peat moss shortage (2022). What do you recommend as an alternative?
Northerns are cold hardy, and totally self fruitful. Southerners are less hardy and do better with pollination. Northerns are more touchy about soil Ph, must be below 5.8.
They will all pollinate each other, how well depends on bloom overlap, distance from each other, how many pollinating insects are around. The weather during bloom..
What container would be best for them? I grow mine in root pouch's and they grow great but all the ones I've tried in normal plastic pots don't make it. I use a bit of compost a bit of sand from my property and mostly peat moss.
Large shallow pots may be better as they drain and dry better. Good drainage is vital, and taller pots often don’t dry enough at the bottom of the container, promoting root problems. Half wine barrels are good for two or three plants together.
For citrus and apples on dwarf rootstock you want to go with a 10 or 15 gallon, or larger. For success with container trees, it’s important to keep the canopy pruned to no more than 150% of the container size.
Love your fruit trees and bushes! 2 questions - what size container for the raspberry bush in this video? And, what fertilizer schedule do you recommend for blueberries? Thank you!
Thanks for the nice video about growing blueberry. I just bought two sunshine blue blueberry baby plants. Do I need another variety? I heard it’s self-fertile which can produce fruits by itself. And how long does it take from baby to mature fruiting plant? I am in Bay Area Zone 10b I think. Thanks!
FYI, to all those that want those Pink Lemonades, give them partial sun. I've had mine for about 3-4 years and they bloom all over but the heat will kill them quick.
@@DaveWilsonTrees I’ll let you know how it comes out - nothing to lose by trying. I had stone fruits on a tree and did multiple apple varieties together a few years ago.

Is ok to plant a baby cake blackberry and shortcake raspberry in the same pot? Thank you. Love your videos!
Yes, they would work together in one container. Just be sure to keep the plants pruned to where the canopy of both together get no larger than 150% of the container size.
Love the videos you produce! I genuinely thought one could only have blueberries as a big bush in the ground ☺️
Thank you for letting us know when they will ship out to the stores. I was too late this year to buy the patio variety of raspberry shortcake. My independent garden center sold out but rest assured I will be getting all of the patio varieties this fall.

Hello, I went to buy some of your blueberries and berry plants. All good, except there is a peat moss shortage (2022). What do you recommend as an alternative?
Thanks for the video. What are your thoughts on Northern Highbush varieties as opposed to Southern Highbush varieties? Advantages/disadvantages?
Northerns are cold hardy, and totally self fruitful. Southerners are less hardy and do better with pollination. Northerns are more touchy about soil Ph, must be below 5.8.
@@DaveWilsonTrees okay. How well do they pollinate eachother? Southern-Northern-Rabbiteye.
A lot of information out there is often contradictory

You’ll get a better fruit set if you have another variety. You’ll have a few berries first year, and in full production in 3 or 4 seasons.
@@DaveWilsonTrees : thank you! I will stop by the nursery in Dublin or Berkeley to pick one of your blueberries.

I have a 2-1 blueberry brush one is blueberries and the other is pink lemonade should I separate them or leave them be?
You have them together in a container? They should be fine together if the container is large enough.

Nice video. Looking for best netting for 5x-acres of blueberrys in N.E.? Great tip about pruning, makes sence😊

We only sell blueberries to the retail nursery trade, for home gardeners. Not commercially. So I don’t really have any connections for that. Sorry.
Can I graft blueberries and have multiple varieties on a single bush?
Never heard of anyone doing that.
