OK, anyone who followed this video and is using a NEWER radio...2007+, will end up with a radio that screeches. The software used in the video is for an older version of the BF888S.

Uninstall the previous software (if you installed it). Install the correct one, then follow this link for the legal GMRS Frequencies: wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/FRS/GMRS_combined_channel_chart
In the settings tab for the software...make sure to select English or your radio will be speaking Chinese. Hope this helps.

Hi there, good question. Start by restarting your computer and make sure you have the correct com selected on the software. Also make sure your radio is off and plug it in to your USB adapter first, then turn the radio on and the calm should be recognized. Sometimes the firmware doesn't go into Data mode on the radio if it's already on first when you plug it in. Give that a try and let me know

Hi there, I have a BF-888S, and every time I turn it on, its just a loud white noise sound. It only quits when I switch it to narrow band, however I have confirmed it works in wideband. Any suggestions as to how to get it to stop the white noise?

laoluu you are right, that is the proprietary keyboard entry for copy and paste on Windows and Mac devices, however this software and particular doesn't allow that keyboard function to work.
So this will keep the radios strictly on FRC frequency's? I scored 6 of these and would be perfect with my Airsoft team. I just want to make sure I am using these correctly...
Precisely, these radios will only transmit and receive on the frequencies you programmed. To double check all you have to do is have the same channel on a standard walkie and if they talk to each other, you've successfully program them.

I would recommend dowloading chirp over using any sort of provided software.

The audio is from the original recording, I used an external audio recorder and had to try to synchronize it with the video so it was a little off, my bad. still trying to find a decent editing software
So I did everything you said and now its Chinese and is making a a non stop screeching noise unless it's on channel 16 but I still can't here anyone, plz help

The fix I would recommend is to try using a disk. I installed the link for the software that he put in the description as well, and the same exact thing that your radio was doing mine was also doing. I then went on Amazon and found a BaoFeng disk with a USB and I read what was currently on it and it only showed channel 16, that is why that was the only one that worked, so I had to go through again and add all the channels, switched the language, and it worked.

after i reprogramed it, when it turn it on its constant statics, as if it's in constant scan mode. it talks when i use my other walkie talkie (on the same channel) and then revert back to statics again. the actual scan button under the talk button doesn't do anything. any1 knows why?
Those wonder full pains. I'm just getting in after hiatus.of 10 years. "chirp" program allows you to set squelch~3 is good. Look in the line below memory's. (Far left side) For the inside works it's a treasure trove of tricks for the critter in that tiny box. "The honest man does well on the river of life" . The software should give you the option to reset the radio to its default settings and then once you hook it back up to the computer and read its files they should be back to their default form and you can remodify the frequencies you desire. Let me know if that helps.
For all the people having issues with software, use bf888s_v1.05. Search in google and download it. Thats what I used and it worked perfect.

clockwork421 if you're wanting to know if the BF has has dual standby then the answer is no. You can only listen to One Channel at a time due to the firmware. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks I also noticed the weather radios typically are on a frequency outside of the range these little guys have. However. I followed the instructions like you said and now channel 16 seems to scan and then channels 9-15 just have a sustained beep? Any idea how that would be?
Actually, I know what happened. The software I mentioned in my first comment is only successfully importing 8 of the 16 channels. I used Baofeng ZT-V68
Programming Software which is the OEM factory version and I can see that only 8 properly were written to it. I suggest using this same method you do here in your video. Maybe try to use OEM software if you definitely need or want 16 channels working. Otherwise, even if 8 work after this most wont complain or even bother to try and remedy it.
clockwork421 I recently purchased six of these radios and three out of the five do the same thing. I can't give a definitive answer as to why but I think it has to do with a firmware bug which I can't seem to find a fix for. I think the manufacturer is looking into it currently but has not yet found a solution for consumers. They might have a recall so keep your eye out.
Mine is saying “Cannot Connect the radio” how do I fix it that?
Every time I program the radios they go back to default Chinese with no channels and the beep? The stock frequencies I saved and reloaded it and it works but can’t program anything! Thanks
Another person recently had the same issue, the software relies heavily on the proper connection to the radio. When you connect the radio try to read the radio with the software first to verify that it's properly communicating with the cable, then upload/load your desired channels. Don't forget to double check the settings to see the language sets, then write/program the data to the radio.
can we set tone for reciving and transmitting through programming
I don't believe these units have that function, they are budget units, the more expensive units typically the Baofeng/Pofung units with keypads support that function.
Is there any way to do this on Chromebook?
I'm pretty sure the software is exclusively for either Linux or Windows. Chromebooks used in android-based OS built by Google I don't believe there is any app support for these radios through Chrome OS
If you set the TX timeout setting to "off", does that allow you to transmit indefinitely?
I believe it will work until the thermal cutout turns it off aka, the transmitter is getting a little too hot.

I can't program my baofeng bf 888s no matter what I change it becomes chinese and no frequency recorded every time I write it on my radio.
Hi Michael, appreciate your comment. I believe some computers (especially older models) are not compatible with these radios without the appropriate drivers, make sure you use a Baofeng USB A to Hand-mic cable, also be sure you have the latest version of the software on your pc, ( I don't reccomend Apple). Also make sure you connect the cable to the radio first before you turn on the radio. Try those things and hopefully you'll have better luck. I won't make promises because these radios are wonderful yes, but are a small portion of the market meaning compatibility issues would be common.
I ordered the cable plus software disc from amazon yesterday should have it by friday or sooner. I hear conflicting things though. Some people say chuck the CD and just go to the CHIRP website and get the sofware there becaue the software on the CD sucks. Some say the CD is ok but not great but will get things done. Also I want to know if the high/low power settings actually do anything because one video out here says if you put it on high or low it makes no difference , it will put out the same power. So much info out there and hard to decipher what the best thing to do is. Anyway, I just watched part of your vid, maybe you cover that in the rest of it lol.
VLAD THE IMPALER from what I know, the power setting cannot be adjusted and I have not found any way to use chirp to program this radio in particular. The software included in the link is the one I've used that allowed me to program this unit successfully. I've heard rumors me but I don't believe it's been confirmed to the point of it being the better option unless somebody is just more used to the chirp operating system and they go through the hassle of making it compatible instead.
hi, when i read data from my bf888s the freq range is uhf. then if i change it to uhf and then program some freq. when i turn on my radio it will have continous tone playing.

This radio already comes with working channels. So what purpose is there to what you show?
The pre-programmed channelsthat come with the radio are unlicensed and may interfere with certain law enforcement or first responders. The frequencies can be closer than you think. Was doing that programming you could be held responsible for interfering.

Since Baofeng Radios can communicate with Esynic zESY666 radios, as described on the Amazon page... they also look exactly the same without the logo. Do you think can use the 888S programming software with the Esynics? Also do you have to program in the UK, I haven't had any interruptions so far.
You should be able to look up the "Uk family radio service frequencies" and you should be able to program it, i doubt that the 888s software works because the other company may have installed their own firmware version that may be incompatible with this software, but it's worth a try! Good luck!

Mine works fine on chirp. And ms windows7 business. Only thing is I am blowing out the prolific chip set so I cut down the volume to about 2/3 . And rembering to start with low volume I think the start up lady (too loud) kills the chip set. so start low then go 2/3 all good then. ^_^ No blowouts kv4li 73

The easiest way to do that is to get a high-end UHF VHF radio antenna. The windings and what it's made out of will increase the range and reception capabilities of this radio

As long as your local law enforcement doesn't have similar frequencies ( possible interference ) you should be ok. However, double check to be sure! You may have issues if you choose to not program, if your default frequencies overlap licenced channels. I'd recommend programming anyway, better safe than sorry. The programming cable costs around $5, well worth it to stay out of trouble. Hope this helps.
The software is totally buggy (2013 last update). I your select UHF, you can enter 4xx numbers, but the devices beep all the time. Better use CHIRP.
I agree, however, unfortunately I still believe this model is non compatible with Chirp software hense my using of the proprietary software. I'm also told the beeping has something to do with the firmware being buggy on the actual radio and not the software
@@The123Now It is not 100% compatible, you can't edit the properties, only the frequency tables. I have 4 devices, the newer ones have a different behaviour. They beep, when freq entry is left empty. Most functions like VOX, language etc can be switched with PTT+Monitor during Power ON. Ups, still awake in the US, its 1.30pm here in Germany, 8 hours back....

Yes! The PMR frequencies are within the BF888s frequency range on the UHF/VHF band, just look up PMR frequencies and plug them in the software. I hope this helps, good luck!

FRS and GMRS are designated and pre-licensed by the FCC for the US soil, foreign countries like the UK and Canada may not allow FRS/GMRS so be sure to look that up IF your NOT on US SOIL, you could face issues with local and/or federal law in foreign soils if not compliant with their Communication laws and regulations. prathik rashinkar From what I know Canada has a different set of frequencies than the US, it can simply be found by googling Canada family radio band. I'm am however uneducated on India's family radio service. I hope this helped, good luck!

hi sir Aaron Hargett, I'm here in the Philippines, thus the default frequencies of the baofeng bf 888s are also illegal here? and also I noticed on your video when you encoded the frs gmrs codes on the next unit of baofeng radio, you did not attached the antenna when you switch it on, is that okay?
JOEL TAMPUS the only reason I disconnected the antenna is so that it wouldn't broadcast far enough to possibly interfere with other radios it was simply for testing the close-range radios next to each other otherwise there's no purpose I just didn't want to interrupt anybody else's radios since I was just testing to make sure that they work together. visiter1 I'm glad you asked, here is why, the default channels may interrupt law enforcement channels which is highly illegal, FRS & GMRS are channels that law enforcement are not licenced to use. That means if you use those channels you'll be safe upon operation. I hope this helps.

FCC laws rule out general programming aside from FRS & GMRS however, there is a loophole, look up business radios and see if you can find frequencies for business radios and BE SURE they are not used for law enforcement, use radioreference.com to see. then program in the frequency when you are sure they are not interfering with anyone else and you should be good. You may also look into purchasing an licence where the fcc provides you with a frequency that is strictly yours.
I'd listen to the frequency for about 12 hours to make sure it isn't being used.

+Redoy Hossain look up your other radios manual or frequency chart there should be something from the manufacturer giving you a listing of the channels that it uses unless you program your other radio to work with these instead. I hope this helps, good luck!

Ancowes please go through some of the other comments and I have answered the same concerns, it has to do with the radios firmware and how it communicates with the software. It's a bug that's been going through the radios and some of them work and some don't

That model seems to be more of an "oddball" so I'm not exactly sure if programming is fully supported by this radio, try using Chirp Programming software and see if your radio is listed. I hope this was helpful, good luck!

Its bf888s_v1.05 from what I seen Or atleast that is what worked for me. I searched for the download in Google and easily brought it up. Should work with all versions of windows I would think.

I don't own that radio, but I know that most Kenwood radios are supported on Chirp Programming software, try seeing if your radio is listed. I hope this helps, good luck!
does this set up encrice the range of the radio?
Range is a tricky one, these radios are rated for 3-5 watts, typically 5 miles, but that is determined by the terrain around you, city areas are 1-2 miles, open field (optimal condition) is 3-5 miles. I hope that helps.

Hi there! I apologize for the delayed response, but, I have a theory. I did some research and based on what I briefly learned I believe that the individual brands for example, Bafoeng, Retvis, and Neuni use their own firmware on their radio models. I understand why you thought their wouldn't be a difference considering most of these units come off the same assembly line but they typically have their own version of firmware programmed.

If you program in FR-S and gmr's frequencies they are licensed by the US and you do not need to purchase any licensing. If you decide to use other frequencies you will need to purchase licensing. Otherwise there is no need to purchase
When I reprogrammed my radio's just as you did I have a beeping sound from 1-15 and the language changed to Chinese. How can I stop that from happening.
Hi Donald, sorry to hear about that, here are some things that you may try. First under programming software make sure you read from the radio to see what the current settings were, then after you make the appropriate adjustments to your liking, you may perform the write function(reading it verifies that your pc connection is working). Second, under language it says ENG or English. Also remember this radio isn't a dual band and only has a 00-470 Mhz frequency band. Try to also reboot your computer that may also help. Good Luck!

Ey, good vid, but how come when I try and read the radio on the program it just says it cant connect?
Make sure you have the correct programming cable, that the radio volume is set to maximum and that there is charge in the battery. Then make sure that you have the correct COM port selected.

Edgar Rodriguez the Motorola's may have a DCS or CTCSS tone squelch code on the frequencies, if it's a non commercial unit look for the small number on the LCD and make sure it says 0, otherwise you will need to google Motorola frequency chart and enter the squelch code for the corresponding number for the small number.

Hein Tapao you can use what are called squelch codes where people cannot interrupt the same channel you are on and you will not hear the people that don't have the Squelch code programed. You should be able to do some simple research on Google and it should provide the answers you're looking for I'm going to do a new video or I demonstrate these new things that people are asking for.

Ok so I followed did the exact same thing you did. But after I downloaded the new frequencies to the radio it speaks in Chinese and has a high pitch screech!!! I hooked up my other radio downloaded the old frequencies into the screeching radio and it worked fine again. Just can't get the new Freq to upload. Have checked your settings on the screen compared to mine and look the same. HELP! :)
Well I was able to program my radios by using chirp on an older computer. I have a laptop with windows XP and it worked perfect!!

Download the Chirp Program on an older Windows machine. My laptop is an old Windows 7 operating system. Do this and it is a snap! Of course you need the programing cord and your programing frequencies.

I switch between channels 7-15 on the FRS/ GMRS channel bands
after I unplugged the cable from the radio I got a really loud beep and the language was in Chinese!
You most likely reset the defaults by accident, I've done it myself. Reprogram the radio with your channel frequencies, then double check the settings for Lang or Language. Then re-write/upload the new programming to the unit. Hope that helps! Good luck!

Ashley Pena I don't believe Chrome books support this software. Chromebooks usually run only on Android apps because it's an Android Base system and it won't have enough power for this software or any of the necessary drivers which are unavailable for Chromebooks.

Possibly, I will do some more research to see if Chirp may be able successfully program it.

Christian Olivares you'll only need a license to operate on channels that are not FRS or gmrs. Some business radios I have different channels and our licensed by the manufacturer but these radios are not traced and unless it's a private frequency that the company purchased the license through you would simply need permission to dial it in but, if you are using frequencies from a radio and are not sure then you should probably check up with whoever you were using the radio for or see if the frequencies are being used for law enforcement for any emergency services that might receive interference from your Transmissions.
You need a license in the US to use GMRS Frequencies. FMRS don't require a license, but there is a power limit of 1/2 watt. (500 mw) These radios exceed the power limit, and these radios are not type accepted by the FCC for use on FMRS.
so there is no fix for that? does that mean i cant program it?
Ancowes I would look into either getting a refund or an exchange for your product, some of the items were shipped with bad firmware
i am using chirp now, i think if you use chirp it will work.
Give it a try and comment if it works. I'll try to make another video if you or I find a way to use chirp to successfully to program these faulty units. Good luck!

Jonathan Alius if you are using gmrs and FRS frequencies within the US then you do not need any licensing to operate. If you are using frequencies that are required to have licensing under the FCC guideline then you may need to visit purchasing a license for a certain frequency. If you need to use this along with business radios and stuff you should be able to use it no problem. Just make sure your frequency doesn't interfere with any local law enforcement or federal agencies otherwise you could be fined up to several thousands of dollars and have issues and you can face prison time depending on the rules and regulations locally.

Manny Perez you should be able to just Google bf-888s programming software. If that doesn't work digging through Online files. I'm going to post a copy of my installation file on a Google Drive and provide a link to you guys at some point

Your correct, however the programming software will only allow a right click and paste selection, the software won't recognize that command key.

Before making a tutorial it would be a good idea to do it at least once first. Even better to do it a few times first. Especially considering that all this cheap-charlie Chinese software is crap-on-a-stick and virtually unusable.
It would also be useful if the first thing you say is that you are NOT using the disk and that you've already downloaded and installed the software off the internet...and, tell where you found it and tips for doing that instead of wasing time with the disk.

Hmm.... If all the channels except 16 are not working, then you may want to return. That many defective channels is certainly odd. I'd look into a return or replacement of your unit.
Aaron, actually it's default program are working fine, but when i program it to frs & gmrs, channel's 1 to 15 beeps but only 16 is ok... i really dont get it. but when i bring it back to default, it works just fine...
try using chirp as the programmer
