Just going to say this to those criticizing Tsuchiya's skills..he's been driving with actual track experience longer than anyone else, especially before any of you were born including myself. I'm only saying this because I don't want to hear some BS person trying to make some technical discussion w/o knowing the backstory of the car or experience or because of a simulator or some reference from Initial D. Whatever it is, I just want everyone to enjoy the video. As far as the car setup goes, this was the car's first debut in 1998 and did not have the modifications it would receive later in its times for refinement (i.e. 14" tires to 15"s tires, engine tweaked for 8,500-9,000RPM instead of 9,500 shift point, TRD rear shocks replaced with PCR shocks, equal length 4-links mod, GT-Wing, etc.) so considering this was the car's shakedown, it's not a bad result for 3rd place but again it wasn't refined. If you watch the AE86 Club volumes, you'll see the progress it went through from 1998 to 2001/2002. That's just my 2 cents, I'm not here to put down anyone with their opinions but it's annoying to see someone just post some blatant comment without knowing the reasoning and acting as if they've driven longer than the guy himself. the only thing I would criticize is that occasionally on right-hand turns he would let his left knee nudge the shifter which seems a tad risky. Luckily it didnt pop out of gear.
I realised something while watching this video 1. When you does he tuk tuk thing with the manual (Idk what its called) he always steps on either of the yellow pedals. I don't know if that is compulsory or not but I was just amazed by him being able to steer while quick steping on the pedals and rotating the thing all at the same time 2. He is actually speeding up when he is like turning and I'm like woa there and he steps aggressively after ¾ of the turn and I go woa
The tuk tuk thing that he does is called a heel hoe shift, it's done to bring the engine rpm up in a 'blimp' to match the gear that he shifted down to, creating the tuk tuk sound
Im starting to understand that pinned comment. Im staring to nail down a pretty amazing setup in a simulator, so i kind of know how it should handle... yeah the suspension setup he was using here was awful (having to oversteer that much when coming out of a corner sucks), I completely agree with you now. DK's rear was flying all over and took a lot to correct while the car infront looked stable. A longer race maybe 3 laps more DK would overtake but more than that, his tyres would degrade much more than the guy infront and will not be able to attack.
E ovo su trke!!! Bravooo!!! 👏👏👏👏
(3:36) watch his foot let off the throttle, maybe if kept accelerating, he would've passed him on that next straight. A little contact might have been necessary to get the other driver to give up more of the inside lane. Not sure, but this was Gold!
No abs,no stability control,no traction control, its pure driving pleasure with your arm and leg
I can watch this all day
Pushing a car hard af looks fun af
Yup and in a manual.. pure driving skills needed. Sad cars now days are automatic and all about that 0-60
Mate, the things I’d do to just have an ounce of this talent.
Those quick downshifts. 👍
Guy up in front was feeling the pressure but refused to give Tsuchiya the space to pass him, at one point tsuchiya has to veer near offroad to avoid hitting him.
He definitely had the skills to pass him but he didn’t have enough track too he would be on the edge to pass but the corner comes up forcing him to brake
You guys mental. First of all amazing as always drift king doing his thing. Safety is top priority it's not misshisfting it's forced undershifting the guy in front of him with the white is probably a kid or someone with insanely high ego cuz he's a hazard in racing, when a driver is better u let him pass you and try to follow his race line till he makes a mistake and u overpass him instead of blocking him by swerving all over the place, anyone with some racing experience would agree.
the only thing I would criticize is that occasionally on right-hand turns he would let his left knee nudge the shifter which seems a tad risky. Luckily it didnt pop out of gear.
1:38 that downshifts and throttle control uuuuuuuuwee
Me envanta !!! Sonido , tecnica y habilidad !!! Nice 🏁 Nice Sound !!!
I realised something while watching this video
1. When you does he tuk tuk thing with the manual (Idk what its called) he always steps on either of the yellow pedals. I don't know if that is compulsory or not but I was just amazed by him being able to steer while quick steping on the pedals and rotating the thing all at the same time
Im not even watching the race 😂😂 im good watching his feet
Jesus christ this guy changes manual gears smoother than an auto
Meanwhile dude in 2nd putting on a defensive masterclass.
Im starting to understand that pinned comment. Im staring to nail down a pretty amazing setup in a simulator, so i kind of know how it should handle... yeah the suspension setup he was using here was awful (having to oversteer that much when coming out of a corner sucks), I completely agree with you now. (I always agreed that he was good, but not knowing how a car should handle made me question it.)
Yup his N2 car's setup in '98 was pretty bad, although it improved a lot the newxt few years
