Imagine if Henry stopping in the tunnel wasn't an actual fear of the rain, but he was trying to stop the shame of being a poor steamer. The dismissal of his issues by the others most likely made him feel ashamed of his design, and he used the vain facade to cover it up. At least he would be controlling the view of him as a vain engine afraid if spoiling his paint, rather than being teased for faults he couldn't control.
@@InstrumentManiac Poor Henry. Maybe Henry really stopped in a tunnel for being afraid of being a failed engine. That he might be scrapped if he didn't do anything. Maybe he felt so ashamed of being a bad steamer. 😔 😟 🙁
Honestly the simple and short Henry theme always has been in my mind since 1st hearing it as a child watching episodes like "Flying Kipper" and "The sad story of henry" on VHS. It's been a favorite of mine from the classic series for years. This extended instrumental cover is probably one of the best I've ever heard in years. I'd be lying if I didn't say I was fighting tears. It made my depressed past flash through my mind all throughout this. Absolutely cracking job and I do look forward to using this in future projects. With proper credits of course.
It's the bayou crash, saw that one back in Sept and wouldn't know of this if you didn't have it in there. And I unexpectedly needed it then too. Thanks t-bolt, I know you had a lot going on too
Henry’s driver and fireman had jumped clear before the crash but Henry laid dazed and surprised. The fat controller had come to see him. “The signal was down sir” said Henry. Breaks my heart every time. Amazing rendition ❤️
At least Sir Topham Hatt assured Henry it wasn't because of him or his crew that he got into an accident. Unlike that other episode where Henry pulled the Flying Kipper into a flooded area because of the high tides. In that one Henry was blamed for something beyond his control, whereas here he wasn't.
Henry started out as a sad boi who failed continually, but he was then given a rebuild into a happ stronk boi :) Jokes aside, your Thomas themes never fail to amaze! The original theme was sad enough to begin with, but then you went all-out with this orchestration and made it even darker! It's especially poignant when you consider that Henry was only let out of his tunnel at the request of the publisher...
I think "contemplative" more than sad. When the flute kicked in, it really felt like reflecting on things that have happened. What an awesome instrument! I love it, thank you.
The Thomas engines looking back can really help to teach children many things. Henry's sad theme comes up a few different times for different reasons. First he's being punished for being disobedient to the fat controller by not pulling his train. Then he suffers with an invisible condition making it hard for him to work, while the other engine accuse him of being lazy to get out of work. Then he gets into an accident that wasn't his fault. There's comfort knowing he couldn't have prevented the accident, but the pain and hurt is there all the same, even when you do everything right. There's alot of lessons to learn, about expressing our emotions, and the different sources of pain we can feel, from ourselves and our actions, from our peers, and from the world around us.
Henry didn’t get treated right, having problems ever since he was born/built, getting kinda bullied by the little tank engine and the red tender engine, getting bricked up without any coal or water or what so ever, getting damage by pulling the fish train
He reminds me of Smudger from the Duke episodes, despite only appearing in one. It may only be a fan theory but the main reason Smudger didn't function properly was because he was rushed in his building process, and there was either no time or parts to get him built the way he was supposed to. The main difference is while Henry was eventually given a proper smoke box, Smudger was turned into a generator. The two weren't built properly from the start, and it led to problems for both them and their respective railways.
Respect for Henry... He suffered from having too small of a firebox for his size, luckily that all changed after his rebuild at Crewe. Henry has always been a favourite
"Whoooosh!" said Thomas to Annie and Clarabel as Luke played the Bass Flute, "Have you ever heard anything like it?" Both Annie and Clarabel agreed that they never had.
Henry's sad theme always made me feel so sad for him for he had such a rough life at the start. He's the character that many of us Thomas fans can relate to in terms of being sad or down in life let alone with health problems
Poor Henry had no steam to answer, his fire had gone out. Soot and dirt from the tunnel had spoiled his lovely green paint and red stripes anyway. How long do you think Henry will stay in the tunnel before he overcomes his fear of the rain and then decides to journey out again?
I liked how you kept dimmed light while playing the theme to show how sad was this theme. Amazing work as always. Use of Bass Flute just amplifies how this theme is really depressing
“We shall take away your rails, and leave you here for always and always and always.” Really shows how fed people are of someone who just doesn’t want to do their work.
@@takumiiscoolBut Smudger wasn't like Henry. Yes they both weren't doing their work right. But Smudger was being reckless, and Henry had problems he was born with. Henry was built wrong and he had disorders, he had a small firebox, he didn't produce enough steam, he kept getting sick, he suffered dreadfully everyday and no one else cared until The Flying Kipper Crash. Smudger on the other hand, was a lazy, rude, reckless, laughing, Rheneas looking, vomit coloured, track jumping safety hazard.
Soot of dirt has spoiled his lovely green paint and red stripes anyways. How long do you think Henry will stay in the tunnel? Before he overcome his fear of the rain and then decide to journey out again.
It's interesting that Henry's the only one with his own depressing variation of his theme music--yet I love how it adds to his character! Great remake, dude! :D
I love this expanded arrangement of Henry’s Sad Theme. It’s very good!! I particularly like the harp part (I play harp so it’s cool seeing it there), it adds a new layer to Mike & Junior’s already emotional theme. I forget the term for it, but for a while I’ve noticed the melody in the theme are taken from his regular theme but in a different rhythm, B minor (I think) and slower pace. Anyway, that’s all I have to say for this theme, it’s great as always!
Good lord that bass flute is massive! Another really stellar piece of work! I hope Mike and Junior have seen your work, it really brings their music to life in a way that we've really never seen before.

James' comeback only proves Henrys point. No one ever stopped to think that there was something wrong with Henry and just assume he's a lazy bum trying to not do anything for the railway and wants him to exercise. He gets sick once in awhile, he produces less steam, and no one cares. No one even bothered to ask Henry how these things kept happening to him and just beat him with insults. The only engines who did care about and respect Henry was Edward and sometimes Thomas.
Far out man that was intense and beautiful. I've become a huge fan! I love Thomas themes, and I love people who put their talent and soul into music! Keep up the amazing work!!!!!!

And then the double basses with their dark, tragic core of impotence while the poor train got walled in (it that even appropriate for children? It's terrible!). I'd say this enhanced interest in string orchestration has born its fruits. Great job, as usual.

It's actually pretty incredible that people can relate to the character of these steam locomotives somehow someway Young children relate to Thomas when he first arrived on Sodor. The young, cheeky engine that's eager to show what he can do and gets a little mischievous in the process Grandparents can relate to Edward. An engine that's old but has years of experience under his buffers. He gets teased for being old once in a while, but he's proven time and time again that he just keeps going and even shares his wisdom with the other engines Those who are going through a rough time can relate to Henry. Being an engine riddled with problems from the start, having the biggest accident he's had and emerging a better and stronger engine from that experience. These people have experienced the sadness that comes with their experience like Henry has with his steaming problems. These people can look up to Henry can give them the hope that they will one day recover fully and emerge a stronger person It's amazing.....
Okay on a serious note I've always related to Henry. I'm chronically sick and autistic, so being dismissed, abandoned and told I'm just lazy, overweight and faking is something I've always had to battle. It's not easy and breaks you mentally. But unfortunately I can't be put into a new body like Henry. The episode of Henry in the tunnel made me cry as a little child and I'm not ashamed to admit it still does. Amazing work.. I felt all that pain flooding back to me, but in the best way possible 💚💚💚
Great job with this one! It not only captures the depressing feel, but it also feels cinematic, like if somebody made a movie adapting the books again, this is probably what it would sound like! The Bass Flute even helped too, which now that I think of it, if you did a variation of Harvey or Arthur’s themes, the flute itself would be perfect! Can’t wait too see the next one.
Ahhh thanks Mike! I hope some day we do get an updated adaptation of Awdrys stories with the care & love that Allcroft took in the 80s - 00s. Those are both great themes! Working my way towards the themes of the later seasons so stay tuned :)

A really great cover, man. I love your creative additions to this theme. Apologies if this is already been commented, but the melancholic sequence of music before we hear the familiar sound of Henry's theme, reminds me of the music from the sequence of Snape's past in the last Harry Potter film

Young children relate to Thomas when he first arrived on Sodor. The young, cheeky engine that's eager to show what he can do and gets a little mischievous in the process
Grandparents can relate to Edward. An engine that's old but has years of experience under his buffers. He gets teased for being old once in a while, but he's proven time and time again that he just keeps going and even shares his wisdom with the other engines
Those who are going through a rough time can relate to Henry. Being an engine riddled with problems from the start, having the biggest accident he's had and emerging a better and stronger engine from that experience. These people have experienced the sadness that comes with their experience like Henry has with his steaming problems. These people can look up to Henry can give them the hope that they will one day recover fully and emerge a stronger person
It's amazing.....
I like the extension of the original song! :) The inclusion of the bass flute gives me a feeling of nature so I'm happy for this piece ^_^ Thanks!
Ahh glad it give those nature vibes 🍃😊 thanks for listening Liz!!
Oh my god this is just perfect in every way!
The adaptation fits perfectly :-) spot on as usual
Thanks Shawn!
You made me cry! Amazing version!
So cool, yet so sad! Love your bass flute. I have an Armstrong Alto from the '60s.
This make me think of an alternate timeline where Henry was sent for scrap
Hes already been scrapped for season 25.
Damn mattel
@Samantha Kamman that is a really good fanfic
@Samantha Kamman its perfect
Wow, I really love the sound of that bass flute!
Right!? Such a great buttery sound
There are many fan made series that henry had died, so this is perfect for those kind of episodes
😞😞
Whenever I'm sad or upset, I hear this music in my head.
Sane here I do feel sad and want to cry with it
@@Doglas_and_BoCo I know, right?
Why real men cry:
InstrumentManiac That wouldn’t be to hard ti wait for, seeing that practically the entire Thomas the Tank Engine community, the ones that make music that is, have done their own variations of these themes.
amazing theme man love it
"He wondered if he would ever be allowed to pull trains again. But I think he deserved his punishment. Don't you?"
R.I.P Michael Angelis, you will be missed :
Henry to James: *COUGH* .... I suffer dreadfully, and no one cares......
James: RUBBISH. Your just being lazy!
Henry: Wait James I......
*James puffs away*
This is great and I would love to hear Thomas And The Trucks theme :)
Thanks for the idea!
One an engine attached to a train, was afraid of a few drops of rain, it hid in a tunnel and squeaked through its funnel and wouldn't come out again.
This is extremely sad! I love how you took a short theme and made it so "powerfull" in a way! :D
Great Job! :D 👏👏👏
Thanks for the heart!
This did not have to go this hard. But it did and I love this a ton.
He suffered dreadfully
And no one cared
A really great cover, man. I love your creative additions to this theme. Apologies if this is already been commented, but the melancholic sequence of music before we hear the familiar sound of Henry's theme, reminds me of the music from the sequence of Snape's past in the last Harry Potter film
Ahh thanks for the kind words Baz! I'll have to check out that part of the film, I loved that score!
Sir Topham hat: “i gonna send you to Crewe Henry Where you Gonna Get New Shape.”
Henry: “Yes Sir.”
no he could run just fine if he got his firebox replaced
@@IndustrialParrot2816 if I remember correctly he also got a top water feeder and a splasher, which would require a rework on piping for the pistons.
Dude, this awesome!!!! Keep up the good work!!
Thanks Ffarquhar!
Are you trying to make me cry, because this has so much emotion
