So funny. My friend and I went through a punk rock phase. One day her Dad told us that this new punk rock fad was for ugly girls. So they can be popular too. He told us we were pretty and didn't need to cut our hair or wear funky clothes to get attention. My friend stayed with the whole punk thing. I on the other hand decided I was a heavy metal gal. 😂

      I hear that.
I was a goth/punk in my youth and I hated it when people said crap like "He's just doing it for attention".
I dressed the way I did for me alone and it did not require other people's "attention" in any way, shape or form.
When I did get attention, it was almost exclusively negative, like people throwing things out their car window at me while screaming "freak", or other such stupidity.
So the reality is, I dressed the way I did in spite of the attention I got, not because I wanted it.
But now these people are all online basically screaming "NOTICE MEEEE!" and having sunshine blown up their backsides about how stunning and brave they are, while simultaneously being so emotionally fragile that they have a meltdown if you use the wrong pronouns... I have never seen anything so pitiful.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”
    ― Roald Dahl, The Twits
The thing is, I've seen a lot of before and after pictures of people like this; without exception, though almost none of them could be called stunningly beautiful, they were perfectly pleasant to look at before. It's like they took the attitude of "sour grapes" and turned it into a physical manifestation on their own faces; since they can never attain the perfect beauty they desire, they denigrate the very concept of beauty rather than doing their best with what they have.
