    So putting this comment here as your Poland videos are older. So my husband and I went to Krakow, and used your videos as a guide. BEST day we had in europe. Went to Perogi mr vincent, was amazing, found the dragon did the lair and tried like hell to get a rose doughnut, had some issues with that finally got a stale one at the airport. It was still amazing now on a mission to learn how to make that jam. I can not thank you enough. I watch a few of you all and your videos were the most useful of them all. I will warn anyone not to return to Krakow from Zakopane on a sunday after noon... It was literally full contact bus boarding I got elbowed HARD in the head by the cutest old lady. :/ again thanks.

      This is Macedonia. "Europe" is inapposite. Every nation for itself. It is false to assume that my region (all of former Yugoslavia) is part of a club to incorporate Portugal and Estonia but not Syria or Libya.

    • @lauren9373
      @lauren9373 4 роки тому

      @@stefanveleski333 it's interesting you say that, but I wasn't talking about Europe from a political POV, but from geographical prospective, I do see all Europeans as sharing something in common and I can't quite pinpoint what exactly, however we also have similarities with Syrians, Turks and some other Middle Eastern countries in my opinion, which everyone is in titled to have and I respect yours.

    • @stefanveleski333
      @stefanveleski333 4 роки тому

      @@lauren9373 Thanks for the reply. I don't need to bang my head on the wall trying to frame a rebuttal because your own points are rather telling. You say, "sharing something in common and I can't quite pinpoint what exactly". They have a lot in common: two eyes, two feet, and a host of other features!!!!!!!!! LOL But so does the world! And then you gave it some thought and realised that a great deal of what you thought united the "Europeans" (for only you know what you mean by that term) is extended to Syrians, Turks and others adjacent. Top marks for that observation.
      First, even if you found one feature that marked out the lands that you call "Europe" (because the meaning and boundaries of this term are elastic), that would only serve as a synthesis rather than an unbreakable unifying factor. Personally as you can now tell, I don't count Europe and Asia as separate. You say "geographically" but do you know that the shifty eastern limits are merely conventional and not based on an analysis as to where the cusp lies for two tectonic plates. And even then, this imaginary contour for its entirely bisects five countries, every one of which is a nation state! That then creates further ramifications as you don't know whether the Azerbaijani you met on the train is a "European" or an "Asian", but you just know he is an Azerbaijani! :)))))
      The very notion of "Europe" is political, moreover geopolitical, albeit falsely. You see my roots are in the region of this video; both my parents are Macedonian-born although I was born in Britain. After the breakup of our former country, all of us spent many years as a pariah state that was suddenly "left off" many people's "Europe", until each of us adjusted our political stance toward Brussels and Frankfurt, and then we suddenly rejoined "the family" and now we receive tourists who in 2002 would never have glanced in our direction. At times like that you learn just how "united", "all-inclusive" and "diverse" the whole fiasco is. The concept is more heavily stratified today than it has ever been before
      Geographically we are between the Adriatic and Black Sea. The other countries/nations in that region are our neighbours; the others aren't. We have a need to have strong ties with Germany, France and Sweden, just as we do the Central African Republic and Uruguay! Regards! :))

    Skopje is a really lovely city to visit and as yet off the beaten track for most tourists. That makes it even more of a reason to visit, it's cheap and not crowded. The Old Bazaar is nice when it's open, it's not that crowded and as it's mainly storefront and not market stalls it's easier to navigate and the shopkeepers don't hassle you or yell at you to come and buy. The old Turkish bath houses have been converted to art galleries but still fascinating to see inside of them. Also in the Old Bazaar is what had been a Guest House that was used by nomadic travellers. All in all a really interesting city for people to visit without being surrounded by hordes of tourists. Lake Ohrid was another favourite place to visit.

    Well done on respecting the customs which differ from the directorate red tape. You performed the task impeccably: you addressed the matter with an early disclaimer and then found yourselves able to present a video without having to mention any name for the land. Compare this to some balloon-heads who brazenly refer to the country by its controversial constitutional name and unreservedly insult the host nation with their resolve. I spent some time going in and out of that country last year as well because my wife is from Bulgaria (Blagoevgrad, close to Macedonian border), so I know that you are 100% safe to refer to "Macedonia" by itself without insulting one single ethnic Macedonian or Bulgarian or ex-Yugoslav. If pro-EU Albanians from western Macedonia object, just remind them that despite their vast number, they have a nation-state of their own and that Macedonia is someone else's nation-state. If remote outsiders call out (such as western Europeans / Americans, etc.), just tell them that "Republic of North Macedonia" is the constitutional name and that there is no such official "short name" for any country, and that the majority within for news, media, other publication and in general just call it "Macedonia" to the point that journals and sporting federations have not even amended their names to add "North". The only people likely to get offended by the dropping of "North" are - NOT the Greeks believe it or not, as they don't accept any form of Macedonia but that's another subject - but actually the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU (and EU proponents by extension) since this has served as a way of curtailing the nation and conquering a new land on their giant chess board. KEEP IT UP!

That area had name Macedonia most of it's time in history, and also during Yugoslavia and Tito, but back then no country had guts to disapprove their name. And no one will when we put Yugoslavia back together again.
