More reviews like this! In particular, i think Artralab is one chinese lens maker that deserves your attn. I hace had so much fun with their 35mm 1.4. theyre photographers who make lenses for photographers who make art. My first copy had a MINOR issue with it, but their customer service is so awesome that I had a literal replacement in like 3 days. Speaking of which, I still need to send back the old one for them to look at. They also like to boost photographers on their page, which I think is mutually beneficial.
Thanks Matt. The lens seems nice for budget minded people. Some of the problems can be corrected in post production. But the saying goes get it done in camera first . Save yourself time later.
Why not use an FTZ adaptor and the Nikon lens we all have? I have the 50mm f1.4 & 1.8 AF-S as well as an AF-D somewhere! I don’t need another nifty fifty.
Not a bad lens. Especially for people on a budget. And with me not using a 50mm that often makes sense. I still like my Pergear 35mm. I’m waiting for a 3rd party to come out with a FTZ adapter 3rd generation. But these 3rd party manufacturers are giving people choices. And the flaws they have can be corrected in post. I still am getting the Viltrox 28mm to use with my Zf Have a great weekend Matt! 📷😎
If you can afford the Nikon 50/1.8, I would agree. If you're on a tight budget and/or you will only occasionally be using a 50mm, I think this is a great, economical option.
This isn't really a fair comparison, Matt. In your hands a potato would create good images. That arena photo is the money shot. Seriously, this is a bargain at the price. Hope they can improve that auto/manual switch.
My joy for creating the image is fuelled by the subject in front of the lens and as long as the lens can meet a baseline, SHAZZAM we have images. It was a few cracker photo sessions in creating this video, and I am always looking for new angles of my home city. :) I found a few, this is partly fuelled by my new bike. Vid coming about that soon :)

Got the Len’s this week. Doing a lot of test shots. So far I like it for 1/3 the price of the Nikon lens it is very good.

Hi Matt, thanks for another fun and helpful review. I was wondering how this compares to the Viltrox 50mm 1.8 you reviewed before.
Cheers Tim, it is probably time again for me to do another 50mm comparison video ... :)
@@MattIrwinPhotography I would definately watch that! So you better get shooting Matt.. 😉
Daar Matt, thanks for the insight in the performance of this lens. Would you choose this lens over the Nikon 40mm F2
Can you test it on a ZFC or a Z50? People like me on a budget would love it.
i prefer the nikon afs 50mm with the adapter, if the price a bit lower again, its good for try
Can it focus on infiinity properly? My copy of Sony E mount can't and I returned it.
Looks like a nice lens.
The 7Artisans site only lists E mount for this lens. Is there a release date when it will become available for Z mount?
it was released Last week and the price is 999 CNY about 138 USD in China.
It was realeased today. I ordered it right away. You should act quickly if you want one, they have a limited supply.
How does it compare to the Viltrox equivalent.

It only sells 999 CNY about 138 USD for the fist batch.

At that price point, ill stick to the 50 1.8s. Can buy them for $350-$400 used in great condition, all day.

Their 50mm f1.05 manual is great, at 225 usd.

Why they are waisting time to sell lens that already exist in the lineup
It's a third of the price.
I think if you can afford it, get the Nikon lens. If you can't afford it, save up and get the Nikon lens.
