- The KTM 390 Adventure is officially a tour-enduro according to the Austrian brand, which is a travel motorcycle with some off-road ability. Yes, even though you've probably heard of it as an off-roader that tours... which it is not. From its start in 2020 till the 2024 models, the bikes have remained more or less unchanged. Here's what you need to know. First, it uses the 373cc single from the previous generation 390 Duke. Which means it isn't slow. But it also means that low-end torque isn't its strength. On the flip side, years of service allow us to know what the engine offers, its weaknesses, as well as its long-term reliability. Second, it also uses the old Duke's frame, which creates the unusually high seat height, low ground clearance and, as a direct consequence, low suspension travel in a fairly stiff setup. Third, it's one of the largest motorcycles in the class, which makes it among the most spacious motorcycles you can buy, excellent for two-up touring with luggage. The KTM now comes in three variants, plus a low-seat version. In this FAQ, we're taking a close look at the 390 Adventure.

Rear frame is hidden , it makes the bike look tame and matured, its supposed to look scary and mean and skinless like a transformer :(

Fully agree. Transformed the comfort and handling of the bike. MUST upgrade for anyone who doesn't have it yet. I would go as far as saying this should be the first upgrade you should get for the Adv!

Guys I also installed the same new adjustable suspension on my 2019 DUKE 390 and it fits perfectly with little hole drilled to access for smooth and hard screw . 😊
In my opinion it is the best vfm in 400 segment. I cant think of a better bike to buy. First of all it can tour it can be ridden in the city and it can also be used for a little bit of off road ability. Also it is KTM so the servicing cost is very less. And the engine is reliable. Its big. Its smooth and it has all the things we need for long term.

Thanks for letting us know! It shouldn't need work though - that's the problem. It's a simple 400 that doesn't do its job well enough.

Fz25 has good torque...with 230 kgs load..1 pillion nd luggage...i did leh nd spiti....i felt a big loss of power above 15000 feet...apart from low

There's content coming but let's make this clear. No reasons to buy the 390 Adventure at all. Don't do it. Wait for the 2025 model if you're a KTM/Adventure fan. Or think Himalayan (superior, more versatile) or 400X (more friendly, sweet to ride)
why is KTM gatekeeping the new 399cc engine so much? i mean, even the RC390 uses the 373cc engine. why?
They're not gatekeeping as much as each model line has an internal schedule that it works towards. So the Duke has the update, the Adventure gets it next and then, mostly, the RC's turn will come.
@@motorinc isn't RC pretty much the duke with fairing, shouldn't it be easier to update RC390 than ADV 390

what should i get if i just want to tour? mainly in the mountains? the ktm adv 390 or the Himalayan 450? i was mainly aiming for the Himalayan because of its lower lower torque band, but according to you which should i go for?
Lower end tourque is very helpful for lower speeds. At lower speeds if bike has enough tourque you have to use less clutch and less frequent gear shifts. If bike has less low end torque then you have to use more throttle and more usage of the clutch and frequently change gears...
On the other hand if you are touring and you have more usage on highways. Then mid and top end torque is required.. mid rpms torque is most important.
So, if you are doing more city commutes or off roads where you have to stay in lower speeds than go for bike which has great torque at low and mid rpms..
Whereas if you only have to do touring then medium to high end torque is better...
But anyhow from what I have heard on internet and bike groups. 390 adventure has very low torque at low end and takes some time to get used to and it's frustrating.. . On highways and turns, it's like a beast...

Which one you would suggest to a 48 years old biker with L4/L5 issues for daily commuting, weekend rides and monthly long touring among Maverick 440, Triumph Scrambler 400X, Himalayan 450, Svartpilen 401, Adventure 390, Vitpilen 250, Adventure 250?
250 to 400 cc Bike with comfort of Scrambler 400X and light weight 140 to 170kg (like CB 300R😂) that supports low-end torque is my requirement.
Don't advice not to do biking. 🤣😤

Slightly at best - better suspension. But between cost or buying/owning and the engine, the GS is very hard to recommend.

Will 2025 ktm 390 adv be better than this in terms of seating comfort? Should i wait for 2025 version or just fo for the current top model ? What should be my other alternatives? I really like the tech and the oberall package that ktm offers....power , handling and lightweight impressed me the most.
We'd say wait for the 2025 model @helios9663. We don't speculate so we're not gonna comment on how it's going to be but looking at the 390 Duke, we're cautiously optimistic.
If you're in a hurry to get a bike, we'd suggest getting the X and then save up to get the adjustable suspension units from the SW. The SW, the top model, comes with spoke wheels so it wouldn't be our top recommendation.
@@motorinc Thank you so much for the reply!!....adv X seems a good value variant but it lacks the electronic tech and the features like TFT display , cornering abs, TCS etc. Is it really worth the trade off from actually getting the top variant 390 adv?
We don't consider the electronics to be an important part of the riding experience @helios9663 but if you do, then going with the top-end variant might be the only choice. In which case, we'll say, wait for the next one!

I feel if i'm spending close to 4 lakhs on a bike I want the complete package and not compromise on anything. Duke 390 then seems like an amazing deal at 3.7L...you get the complete package minus the size and ergonomics.

As of right now NR, no opinion. We'll have one for you after it's been launched and we've gotten a chance to ride it though.

Tbh this is not really an adventure bike , because adventure bikes needs to be an off-road, n this is n short piston bike just like regular ktms , fair for city but not for off roads , , because out of City theirs only dusty broken roads they needs to be reliable, reliability is the main factor. That's my opinion.✌️🗿
