This hits home for me. I started a job at the beginning of September because I was furloughed at my previous job. After working a few weeks I knew the company wasn't a good fit for several reasons. I like my career so I interviewed elsewhere for the same position and they offered me the job. I put in my two weeks and two days later they offered me a substantial raise to stay. Even though the money would have been great I wasn't happy there so I spoke to the company I am going to and they gave me a little bump in starting pay and day one benefits. I know in the long run I will be happier there.

@@asadb1990 I interviewed with the company I am at right now on a Wednesday afternoon. On Monday morning I got an email with the offer letter. That morning I gave my 2 weeks notice at my former job. The following Wednesday (2 days later) they offered me the money to stay. That same afternoon I contacted my current job and talked with them about how the place I was leaving offered me a substantial raise to stay but I felt that I really needed to work for them instead. They came up some in starting pay and offered me day one benefits. I then went ahead and told the company I was leaving I was flattered but still felt like the other place is where I should be. The biggest sign for me is when you wake up and you just have that "ugh" feeling. You don't necessarily dread going to work, you're just sick of the doing same thing with the same people over and over. I have changed jobs simply due being sick of the place and the money was secondary (though the big boost is still appreciated).

LOL I ended up declining the offers because as soon as they knew they "had me" they started showing their true colors and I saw a lot of shady stuff, and the way they treated me changed abruptly... so that raised a lot of red flags and I simply walked away after having accepted some offers.

Nobody ever said to me that I should be happy about what I do. I chose my occupation - as I interprenet it - when my parents cleverly manipulated me to choose architecture. They had planned that I study architecture, work in my father‘s architect office, marry an architect, live in their neighbour, etc.
There was one person who asked me:“ Do you like your job?“ It was my grandmother. She propably saw how depressed I was. Nobody else cared, and I struggled to get out from the trap. Finally I struggled so much that I sold ny apartment, quit my job and moved abroad, to Berlin, to finally start my things (graphic designing). What happened? I constantly meet people whobare pushing ke to work to architect offices. They are doing a lot here, they need workers.
Nobody, ever, has said that I should be happy about my job, or content about it. Every single person seem to shut their ears when I say: „I do not want to be an architect.“ They look at me snd say:“Here is a list of architect offices... apply here...“ Or: „I need a renovation plan...“ or: „I inherited a house and it needs an architect...“
Of course, these jobs I should do half-free. Or totally free.
My career choise and trying to change it has been so painful that it makes me cry.

Follow your plan that makes you happy and brings you peace financially, vocationally!
I’m a lawyer but don’t do traditional practice and it always throws people, too. They assume I work at fancy law firms and have filed litigation. I say HELLLL NO! I use my degree and experience to write and lobby for policies rather than litigate them. That’s what makes me happy!
Stand firm with confidence in what you want and the rest will fall into place!

This is really helpful. Just as I was about to leave my crappy apartment I got an offer to move abroad for work, so I decided to stay. But a year has passed and the date gets pushed back further and further. And I'm now at the point where I'm considering leaving, but my manager is still promising we're almost there. I feel like I've been kept on a leash, but at the same time if I leave I feel like my employer might feel betrayed that I've been all in for the past year and suddenly when we're close I back out.

how do you manage dealing with toxic bosses who think you should be able to mind read their instructions without them having to tell you. last boss was a case in point. i would bring my work in for review and he would cross off and add new stuff in everytime and act like im an just too slow. and then doesn't do anything to discuss this with me. instead he tells on last day to meet him 5min before go home time, its not working out, you are being let go. the minute i heard that i grabbed my paper work and head to my office to empty my stuff out and he starts his rant on how its unprofessional. so i tell him if had a problem you should have said so. luckily i got to leave a office in a pile of paper mess. and found a new job a month later. i personally find if you get laid off within the month or 2 of being hired, its lack of compatibility and not your fault unless you did something major bad.

Dude, my boss does the same thing but specifically any kind of writing. An editor micromanager. And I’m a good writer. It’s not grammatical, it’s language choice, which is sometimes substantive but usually it’s personal which takes away my voice when writing and replaces with hers or very generic language. I’ve been there 2 and a half years and she also doesn’t give good directions on projects and still doesn’t trust my writing. It’s stifling. And if it’s that bad why not send me to some writing boot camp? But she’s not the only director who does this. My coworker on the development team has his writing skewered too and I’ve read it and it wasn’t bad either. When management can’t delegate, it wastes everyone’s time. Why bother writing something if half of it is getting thrown out?
