@@plezmybob I was really excited about the new release and I was ready to buy, but I was not a huge fan of the new art and miniature sculpt style. I much preferred the original. If I had loved the new art and miniatures, I probably would have bought it anyway. But, oh well.
@@EHeathRobinson you missed out on three new quest books from the Kickstarter. Also the new tiles on the new game board are 1 inch square, vs older board .8 inch squares.
Loved the original HQ board game back in the 80's didn't even know it was redone and not sure why YT recommended this, but glad it did. Pity I don't play board games anymore... no one to play them with these days. :(
I have had a lot of the same problem late, so have started live-streaming solo-play. I would love to have you be a part of it. Last night I played the first quest in the elf quest pack last night on Dinner and Boardgame using the app to play Zargon. It was a lot of fun. Looks good! The mercenary rules are virtually identical to the henchmen from Wizards of Morcar (although the latter were only available to heroes). Good to see them again!
Yeah, though I hope they tweak Wizards of Morcar when they rerelease it. The heroes moving 12 mercenaries was very tedious. It also meant rooms were filled solidly with minis and resulted in henchmen and monsters just hacking away at each other.
I got the Frozen Horror and yes the Remastered Heroquest is different from the Original Heroquest like the introduction of the Female Elf and Female Monsters. And because of Milton Bradley there is now the Abomination instead of the Fimir and Dread Warrior instead of Chaos Warrior. And yes the artwork is different on the cards.
I noticed the removal of all the reference to "Chaos". That must have went with Games Workshop. Same with the fimir, which is too bad because it is such an iconic part of HeroQuest to me.
I might get myself a box. I don't like the yeti miniatures, nor the swords of the mercenaries, but the warbears are cool, the frozen horror is cool and i like the dice and amount of character sheets. Kind of indifferent about the female barbarian. I like the art of the cards. Overall, pretty cool.
@@EHeathRobinson on the core reissue my skeleton scythes are way thicker than some others ive seen, not sure why mine are practically squares, I ended up filing them into points before I painted them xD
I'd recommend getting the new version of Heroquest, as they've tweaked the rules slightly, and all new quest books are designed to work with them. Plus it's just nicer quality, a slightly bigger board, etc. (Also, if you'd got the mythic edition you'd already have 3 brand-new questbooks).
I will probably end up picking it up at some point. I am not too worried about new board though, as I built a custom jumbo-sized 3D version of my board. It's great. I made a video about its creation if you want to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/s0o5oFDmgNo/v-deo.html
@@EHeathRobinson Some places still are selling them I've seen them as low as $25. Thankfully the Rouge won't have the same problem as Avalon games announced they will be restocked regularly. Knights where a collab piece. I gave in and got mine at a scalp price. It hurt lol
I was thinking of going somewhere and printing the online quests on nice paper and the artifacts from online quest 2 on some card stock to add them to my other cards
Just got mine today as well! Congrats to you! The companion app is fantastic as well! Let the app be Zargon for you. Give it a try with your new frozen horror quest. :)
I always heard about how silly the difficulty balancing was for this expansion as if there had been no test to see if it's possible. Fans have been discussing new rules for it since then. I wonder if the rules are the exact same in this remake or not.
I don't know about that. I would also be interested to know. I don't think I ever played quests from this in the original release. I did play some of the elf quests, I think it was, and yeah, they were impossibly brutal.
I had bought a second copy of the original HeroQuest a while ago for the same reason. I found it on eBay NEARLY complete (like missing two items) so no one wanted it and I was able to get it at a major discount.
I ordered on Amazon a couple or three weeks ago and it said it would ship in August. Then I got an email saying my order was shipping early. Then it appeared on my porch. So, guess they got it out early.
If you don’t have the new version of the game you should buy the new HeroQuest because the board size is different. None of the tiles or figures would fit on the old board.
There's a NEW FREE ONLINE Quest as well that BRIDGES the gap between Return of the Witch Lord and the Frozen Horror! So be sure to play THAT quest right before you tackle the Frozen Horror booklet!
Well, I am not too worried about that as I built a custom 3D jumbo-sized HeroQuest board for our games. So, they might fit well enough on it. We did a video on the creation of that board if you want to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/s0o5oFDmgNo/v-deo.html
Rather than buying the new hero quest, you could just buy some art-back card sleeves for all your treasure cards. *EDIT* I wrote this 5 minutes into the video XD
The original miniatures are licensed through Game Workshop. When they re-released the game they had to change it. I actually bought some original design miniatures scaled up on Etsy. There is a huge collection of HeroQuest items on Etsy.

Heads up the scale of the board pieces and miniatures is bigger then the original

Nice to see an expansion for a game i loved and played so much! Is the difficulty of the quests the same as the basic box ones?
I don't know. I have intentionally not looked at the quests yet. Hopefully someone else here in the comments can give their opinion.
_The Frozen Horror_ is quite tough. The Yetis and Polar Warbears are extremely dangerous and quite powerful.
Just received my copy of this, it looks awesome. I love the quality of the minis
Nice that you finally get to play the Frozen Horror. You'll probably have to also reprint the tiles in the smaller scale of the original board.
The things i want from the new hero quest is the plastic terrain bits cuz they look better than the original paper ones
