would have LOVED to have seen how to remove the pot. seems simple, but I'm having a lot of issues with the heating element not letting go of the pot and the drainage spicket being in the way. I'm not sure if it's safe to use PB Blast or other stuff to get the coil to free up. Any hints or maybe you already did a video on the removal part.
Got it. Just took 5 mins of wiggling, pushing, pulling, twisting, and she finally let loose. The outside of that pot was almost worse than the inside, but interestingly, the heating coil seemed fine. This has always been kept inside with conditioned air, so maybe that is why. My father-in-law had gotten this for me, almost 15 years ago and I had left a full pot of lead in it. As I am getting back into bullet casting, I cranked the ole Pot IV up and discovered she no longer dispenses. I also have the Pro 4-20, but want to keep it pristine and just use my old Pot IV for making ingots ready to use (I have a couple different recipes I have for making between BH 13 and 16. So hopefully, I can get this pot and rod replaced, and get this making me my ready to use ingots for the Pro 4-20
well, ive had my 20 pound pot for ever 3 years, and im still using it to this day ,,, people,, you have to FLUX,, your pot and clean it right out from time to time.. and you will have no problems. and i have made thousands of jigs and even lead weights for fishing nets
Absolutely, positively 100% correct. Been using a Lee Production pot 10 lb since the 70's. The pot on it has almost no gunk buildup on it. To remove the small amout it has I use a wire wheel on an electric drill and do this outside, wind at my back....takes seconds. One should always put a light coating of oil or wax on the steel parts, after it has cooled, if you don't use it for awhile---it will then stay rust free.
Guys I completely agree with both of you but it also depends on the quality of lead that you put in your pots. Again I found a huge stash of soft lead in an old shower liner from the 70's, it has a ton of impurities. For me this was the best option. I can't use flux since I'm using my pots inside my house in a small vented enclosure. I'm not cool with a flux fireball inside my house, lol. The parts are cheap and easy to replace. That was the point of the video. If flux works for you, keep rocking on bros!
I have been using lee pots since i was 15 im now 34. If ya damn flux with beeswax or saw dust you wont have this problem. Along with skimming dross and disposing it accordingly.... This is absolutely ridiculous Ive made thousands of bullets and my oldest casting pot is still going strong with no replacement parts......

I skim the lead all the time and don't do this that often, like every couple years. If I could flux I would. This is also a video on how to replace if you had to, not shooting down what anyone does. Ive been using my melter for years and have never had it look that bad. Do you flux your lead. Every thousand bullets i cast i drain the pot and use steel wool to clean it. Biggest issue i have is the thermostat goung bad.
It's because I have alot of impurities in the lead I found and use for now. Can't flux inside my vent box made of wood. Rather not burn the house down lol.
How do you get the old pot out? I took out the screws and lead got the pin removed. But the pot won't even wiggle. I don't want to use a screw driver to deform the tin holder. Thanks
@nightguy4163 occasionally yes it does, you need to clean it out from time to time, sometimes I use a long piece of wire to shove in the hole from the bottom to clean it out, just be careful. You can also just run a bunch of hot lead through it, sometimes this works.

@Hangs4Fun awesome man glad you got it. Yup the coil always gets stuck around the pot, I wouldn't use any chemicals or lubricants, just work it out.

@rickeycombest8211 it may be stuck on the coils, my coils were pretty rusted and tight to the pot itself.

I have 2 laddles, one is from Barlow's called the small lead laddle, the other is the lyman casting dipper from bass pro.
