In 2018, I went out of my way to drive through many of those lands, and it's just not right that they are cut off to many services. I attended elementary school in the early nineteen sixties, and the idea of democracy was such a huge part of the curriculum that some lessons have never been forgotten. We were taught about fascism and countries where children did not have the same opportunities and they were taught to turn in their parents if they spoke against the leader of their country. We were taught that those children were brain washed and not free. We were taught to respect our government and that we were in a cold war that we needed to win for freedom. I think the problem *I* have is that we have to fund campaigns every year, yet no one has bothered to pass a law against advertising full of lies or candidates spewing lies... So, a candidate is permitted to air an ad full of lies, and we're supposed to fund the fight against it. It's an incredibly cruel system. I don't have hundred of dollars to just fight lies. Here come the Midterms and I spend more energy trying to get people off their behinds and vote. This year has, of course, has been extra important. I've exhausted myself and another neighbor called for help filling out his ballot so I'll be "in session" 😊 again today. I sure hope I can take an at home vacation after the election because Democracy has won! If trump gets in... I'll have to start preparing for being a homeless senior citizen! I research everything and every candidate so I help others fill out their (straight Blue) ballots with all the Props and Measures that are so confusing, make sure they sign and date correctly and where the nearest Dropbox is. We had pizza and so much fun! I think it's gonna become a 'thing'! I'm holding another "session" with a neighbor who missed Wednesday and asked him to bring anyone else who was interested. The Democrats seem to have a large percentage of excellent communicators - which is refreshing. I was disappointed to hear that the good fight is not over on Nov 5th and we need to keep working and voting to keep fascism at bay. But I should have known this as we have a similar struggle in Canada. Too many Canadian conservative politicians think they will win voter support by following a few pages from Trump’s play book which is disconcerting to say the least - thanks Marc for sharing this interesting and informative conversation

Senator Shatz - How do we win the Exerbia folks to our side? I think they are very religious and closely bonded and obedient to their church communities in these areas. These Megachurches take care of the poor and ask for only one thing in return - that they vote when, where and how they are told. We are right up against this divide where and with whom our primary allegiance lies. Then there are those who want to remain in the safety of a 'group soul dogma' and those who are ready to 'do the work - fight -maintain - win'.

I’m so sick of political campaigns 365 days a year. I don’t know about others but I am exhausted and tuning this out.

I care too much, as well. We had a little Voting Party in our Senior Complex community room on Wednesday... I research everything and every candidate so I help others fill out their (straight Blue) ballots with all the Props and Measures that are so confusing, make sure they sign and date correctly and where the nearest Dropbox is. We had pizza and so much fun! I think it's gonna become a 'thing'! I'm holding another "session" with a neighbor who missed Wednesday and asked him to bring anyone else who was interested. At least all the Postcards to Swing States I toiled over (600 this year and 100 for my home state) have been mailed!
