I totally agree with your assessment. The Pfeil tools (IMO)are a bit over priced. The Two Cherries are wonderful! The Flexcut come from the factory ready to carve...I have a couple members in our carving club who have purchased the Beavercraft & the Schaaf tools...Nice introductory level tools. Good steel but, will need a fair amount of sharpening/tuning to make them scary sharp & ready to carve...Thank you for a great video. Let's hope more people give wood carving a try...It's great for lowering blood pressure, fighting ADHD and makes you more attractive to the 'opposite' sex...I mean, c'mon...Who doesn't like someone who is creative and plays with surgically sharp tools? (OK, I might have embellished that last part just a wee bit...Merry Christmas to all. And, to all a good night
I love beaver craft the price and quality is great and as a bonus I asked about them making leather cutting tools and they said they are in the process of making some. 😊

Great introduction to these tools! I cant decide between the flexcut palm and knife or the schaaf 5 piece, leaning towards the schaaf though. Ill mostly be making fishing lures and maybe small animals
Some woodcarving tool set I would avoid are the harbor freight sets. I tried them but had to modify them to get the results I could get straight out the box from better brands.
Hello, I am new to wood carving. I'm planning on carving animals and spoons. I cannot decide between the BeaverCraft Deluxe Kit and Schaaf 5 piece set. Which one would you recommend (quality wise)?
The only issue I have with the Flexcut beginner set is that KN-12 knife. I have yet to find anything that knife is good for. Too small to be a good roughing knife and not shaped right to do detail work. I wish they would replace it with their regular roughing knife. It along with the KN-13 (excellent knife) and the gouge and V tool would be the ideal set.
I carve mostly spoons. I have a Beavercraft and a Morakniv 164 spoon carving knife. I no longer use the Beavercraft. I was looking to possibly upgrade my spoon knife. Who would you say makes the better spoon knife, the OCC/ Kryshak or the Drake knife? Will both of these spoon knives perform better than the Mora 164? Thanks. :)
Thr drake hook knife is a really really good one since its thin and allows for small, shallow, smooth cuts. But the OCC one I have is thick enough to be aggressive on tougher wood and has my go to for most spoons
@@CarvingisFun I ordered the OCC knife for now. I might still end up grabbing the Drake knife sometime in the future. Thanks for the reply. It's always fun giving new tools a try. :)
Most saws I have used are great, but lately I have been using one of those Japanese Pull Saws and love it. Lots of brands to choose from, have yet to see someone mess up a saw really.
I'm a beginner, I have a Beaver Craft set I've been learning on. If I want to go a step up in knife quality, what would you recommend? Is FlexCut a big enough difference from Beaver Craft to invest in? Or will I need to go even nicer to see a noticeable difference? What would you recommend stepping up to from Beaver Craft now that I know I want to continue this hobby? @CarvingisFun
Flexcut is indeed a big noticeable difference in step up from Beavercraft. It is thinner and has a smaller edge angle which allows for a much smoother cut through the wood. Either Flexcuts Palm and Knife set or 3 piece whittling set will be the way to go. I also made a video comparing the differences in how they cut for visual reference: ua-cam.com/video/bL4PbFFVXIw/v-deo.html

Personally, I really really like the shaaf 5 piece. Haven't even touched my palm n knife set since I got the schaaf set

Oh absolutely, they are terribleaaa

Just keep in mind that the wait time for Drake will be 6 months or more, still waiting on some tools on my end
What do you think about the Mora carving knives?
I like em!!! Ive had several and they have been great tools!!
thankyouu
Can you recommend a good hand saw that is also available in Europe?

Will u sell me old tools of yours just starting
