Don's 1st gen Tundra is not only evolving into an off-road beast.........but a real looker as well.........this is one handsome Tundra........great job guys!
Don's Tundra is definitely a lot more trail worthy after all the suspension work. He dumped a lot of money into it.
Once again, Timmy the Toolman knocking out another awesome video! Super detailed, educational, and a tad bit of humor makes for a perfect DIY install video. Thank you for showing off our product, we appreciate it!
Thanks for the compliment. You guys make great products so it was a a pleasure to showcase your LCAs in this video. Also, thanks for supporting our channel. We appreciate it!
Every possible issue explain perfectly with a solution. outstanding video.
Thanks. We appreciate the compliment of our work.
Business as usual Tim and Sean…… Excellence.
Still in my top 5 guys.
Strong work.
Thanks for your comment. We appreciate it!
Great work, excellent detailed view and explanation of each step.
Thanks! We're glad you like it.
This by far the best video I have ever seen... Well done...
That’s a sizable compliment! Thanks for stopping by the comments section and taking the time to comment.

Great video! U are a natural and detail things very clearly.
Thanks for the compliment Tom. We appreciate it!
Timmy ,very detailed video.I love it thanks.
Thanks and you're very welcome Joe!
Nice paint, I need to repaint mine. I have 2000 TRD Tundra with less than a 100K, no rust (in the SW). It was the only year the motors were built in Japan. I'm taking it to the grave along with my 99 4R. For the way I use the truck I need to put Airbags on the back to be able to load my bike without major squat.
Yeah, airbags could work or maybe just go with different leaf springs that give you some lift and a positive rake. When you load your bike on the back, you'll most likely come level and you're all good.
Much needed for a 1st gen, have see a lot of 1st gens have their ball joints give out on the road
Yeah, that ball joint design was bad for a lot of Toyota models. There's forces constantly trying to pull the joint apart.
They had a recall and most people did not follow up
One has 250,00 never and issue I livein rural Nevada she is a back road workhorse
Timmy I can’t thank you enough. You deserve more subs
Thanks! I sometimes wonder why more people don't choose to subscribe to our channel. I don't think any other Automotive UA-cam channel offers what we do. The detail and thoroughness we offer isn't the norm. We go the extra mile so people can succeed using our videos as a tutorial.
I feel like most people these days don’t care about there car. They resent a car or truck they got to 200 thousand miles on without spending hardly and money say like the million 3rd gen 4Runners on the road. That they had to put money into because they won’t learn to fix it themselves. Just get a new one. I’m never doing that. I’m going down with the ship. Let me know when their screen goes black and I think about giving them a lift. Lmao
Your videos are the best. Thank you
@@cbdreamer1709 Yep, I'm going to keep my 4runners forever as well. Thanks for everything you said. I appreciate it!
Good job. Looks great!
Thanks Richard.
Man I wish you were my neighbor . Nice work!
Thanks!
nice kit! beautiful truck!
We agree!
Nice tutorial.👍
Thanks!
talk about a mean kit!
It's definitely a nice set-up Don went with.
thanks sir for knowledge you share
You're very welcome.
Wow, everything, this is like Christmas. Awesome!
Happy holidays!
Nice Truck
You just made Don very happy.
Sick!
We concur!
Awesome 😎😎😎
Thanks!
Did you notice that the SOLO LCAs brought the frint end down about an inch due to the wheels being forward an inch? That is definitely what happened to me. How much many inches of lift / preload did you need to adjust the coilovers to?
I don't think Don ever measured how much he adjusted the coilovers. He just kept adjusting them until he got around 2.5 inches of lift.
T3 knocks another one out the park!
Thanks!
Your videos are great. Do you have any on how to change oil pan gasket on a 02 limited 4 x 4
I am pretty sure dropping the oil pan on a 1st Gen Tundra 4x4 will be the same as dropping a pan on any independent front suspension Toyota 4x4. The front differential needs to come out to give you the necessary room to drop the pan. Getting the differential out is most of the work. Once it's out, you remove the bolts and nuts that hold the pan to the block. Then, you use a pan separator tool or a skinny flexible putty knife to get between the pan and block and start working the pan loose. You get the pan off. You clean the pan and block surfaces. Finally, you reseal with some Toyota 103 FIPG. I hope this helps.
@@TimmyTheToolman thank you for help I really appreciate it!
@@nikohernandez5724 You're very welcome.
Very nice! I did a very basic lift bilstein 5100/one front combo and 5100 rear shocks+rear expansion pack nothing as crazy as this. I’m hearing a little bit of clunking noise, what can it be? I also installed oem lower ball joints. Thanks!
If the clunk didn’t start until after your lift, it could have exposed some worn parts on your rig like control arm bushings etc… but I would go back and check all the components you installed first to see if there are any loose fasteners.
- Sean
@@TimmyTheToolman thanks for the reply 👍
Has don had any issues with binding with the stock CV with the relocation of the LCA?
I don't talk to Don that often, but he hasn't mentioned anything to me. As far as I know, everything is working fine.
Are you ever in Southern California in the South Bay area?
I'm only ever there to visit friends I know down there, mainly my buddy Anwar. I live in San Jose.
I replaced my lower control arms with moog lower control arms and put siberian bushings in the control arms. I used grease on outside of bushing to press it in...Is this not good? Havent installed yet.
It depends.. if they are OEM style bushings with metal sleeves on the outside it might be fine.. if they are poly bushings, then technically you shouldn’t grease the surface that presses into the lower control arm bushing opening.
- Sean
Sick. How much lift did it end up being?
I think Don adjusted the coilovers to give the front end 2.5" of lift from stock.
Are the tundra first gen suspensión compatible with T100 ?
I Having a hard time looking for this information
We don't know. Maybe someone on a Toyota forum or Toyota Facebook page could help you with this question. Or, you could possibly call some of the companies of the products we installed and ask them.
Is there a company that makes a lift kit that also has a upgraded lower ball joint option?? The lower ball joint is the achilles heel of 1st gens, even OEM joints fail dangerously. Mine is a 01’ and the four bolts that hold it are even smaller than those of a 03’ and newer. Thanks any info would help.. from anyone.👍
I'm not sure if there's a company that sells a lift kit that includes an upgraded ball joint option. Total Chaos has advertised an uniball ball joint for 200-2003 Tundras. www.chaosfab.com/product/2000-2003-Toyota-Tundra-Lower-Uniball-Conversion-OE-Tie-Rod
Don't the Tundra & Sequoia share the same platform?
If so, does that mean they share the exact same parts?
I'm not sure about this. I know they are very similar, but exact, I don't know.
I level/lifted my 1st Gen 03 TDR Tundra 4x4 (3.7) 2 years ago. Im now getting some suspension creaking during acceleration from the stop position and also what seems like cv rattle/grind on turns, esp left hand turns during acceleration (as the body rises) - seems to transfer to transmission as well. Can a lift/leveling damage the CV geometry ? Thanks
Suspension lifts can affect things. Without seeing the truck, it's hard to diagnose what's going on with your rig.
@@TimmyTheToolman Thanks Timmy. My local garage said my lift was ok. Do need practically a whole new front end: Rack and pinion leaking, both lower control arms, tie rods and shocks. Hard to believe all this is needed after 4-5 years on the rack and 2 on the struts and I think control arms. Arrgh!
1,100 for control arms remove/replace and 1,400 fo rack and pinion and tie rod end remove/replace… $ 2,500
@@johncalebsteele I'm not buying what that shop is telling you based off the time you said the parts have on them. Lower control arms don't need to be completely replaced unless they are rusted out. You just replace the bushings. Tie rods need to be replaced when there's play in the joints. Steering racks only need to be replaced if the leak is very significant. If the leak isn't that bad, keep an eye on the power steering fluid level and drive on. Shocks don't go bad that quick either. Get a second and 3rd opinion before authorizing any work.
@@TimmyTheToolman Thanks Brother! I really appreciate it
What size tire did don go with
They're equivalent to 33" tires.
Does the tundra have the same balljoint issue as the early tacomas?
Yes, they do. It's the same balljoint design as the 1st gen Tacomas and 3rd Gen 4runners.
@@TimmyTheToolman thanks
@@Nessal83 You're welcome
Will this setup fit a 1st gen sequoia?
Not sure. Click on the product links in the video description and do some research on their websites.

It would be very similar. There's not much difference that I could tell working on both rigs.

See, somebody appreciates Timmy's narration. Thanks!
Total cost 🥁🥺………………
Don't know. We never added up all the components and Don never mentioned it. It's a lot of money We provide links to all the products in the video description. You can look them up and add up the total.
@@TimmyTheToolman I’m afraid to look actually. It’s nice though.
@Ojb_1959 Yeah, Don invested a big chunk of money into his truck. His Archive Garage rear lift kit alone was around $2500.
Hey Tim! Could this suspension kit apply for an 04 Sequoia?
Yes.
