that bridge here in Miami was part of the Venetian Causeway from mainland Miami to the Island (and city of) Miami Beach. It was built in the 1930's and was made with blocks of asphalt, so when you drive over the cracks between the blocks it gives you a rat tat tat tat sound.
Barry was driving across a bridge and thought the sound of the tires on the cracks had a pretty good beat. The sound at the beginning of this song is what Barry heard on that bridge.
Absolutely! Right from the moment that bass line kicks in at the start, you just know it's gonna be a banger. IMO this is the groups coolest song, it's just so low-key and raw and funky. One of my favourites!
That sound of "clapping" in the beginning and middle - Barry Gibb said they got that "sound" from a bridge they were going over!! Bee Gees were GREAT!!
Billy they were amazing, people say they were "disco" well the thing is they were around long before disco, and they were song writers, they wrote so many song for so many people, some people have no idea the catalog they have!
@@Vile_Nihilist666 Michael said it was the Bee Gees who gave him the inspiration to write songs. They were friends with Michael and Barry recorded with Michael: ua-cam.com/video/1Ue3fVxlQus/v-deo.html
I had thought the BeeGees started singing in 1958. I recently found out that they actually started singing together in 1955. They were called the Rattlesnakes. At the time Barry was 9 years old and Robin and Maurice were only 6 years old.
It really is fun to see you react to the song by the Bee Gees. This song was very popular when it first dropped during the mid 70s. It was the tune and launched the so-called disco phase of the Bee Gees music. You should do a reaction video to some of the earlier tunes from the late 60s and early 70s, just for a contrast . Songs like, I started a joke, Massachusetts, and how do you mend a broken heart are good choices.
I grew up listening to the Bee Gees, & you have no idea how happy it makes me, to see the younger generation discover the music we fell in love with !!! Barry Gibb, in my opinion, has the best falsetto voice ever, & what makes it so incredible, is that in his falsetto, he also used his vibrato, which is very rare! Thank you so much for this, they were brothers, & Barry is the last one, but please review more of their music, you will not be disappointed, & they span over years, & crossed many genres 😍 I also believe, that if there is music in Heaven, it would sound like the Bee Gee's ❤️❤️
Haha before you know it Billy you'll be out on the dance floor wearing bell bottoms, platform shoes a muscle shirt bedazzled and a afro. Dancing like a disco fool.
Billy, in many different interviews the brothers Gibb have all stated that they would most prefer to be remembered as songwriters first and musician/singers second. They have written and produced hits for everyone from Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton and Cold Play. Greatest songwriters of love songs ever!!!
Yeah.. that's it... disco era music. Growing up in the seventies again!! No other artists today can bring the heat like the Brothers Gibb did. Thanks Billy for bringing some of us back to our childhood days.
So some historical perspective needs to be added here. "Jive Talkin'" was a pre-disco Bee Gees hit around 1974. After losing favor from their 1960's sound in the early 70's, they changed their sound by picking up some funk and adding black vernacular to their songs. This is the best example of the transformation the Bee Gees had to make to become superstars from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
The were driving over a bridge when they were on tour. The tires were making the beat of this song when they were going over the expansion joints. Barry was like....This is a song. Jive Talking was born.
They were recording in Miami, Florida, and there was a wooden bridge they had to drive over to get to their studio. If they drove over the planks in a certain direction and at a certain speed, the sound produced a very unique rhythm. They like the rhythm and used it for the opening guitar riff to this song.
I love this whole album. They have so many great songs that came out before this one as well. I love them even more today. I have to admit, when this album came out, I was busy crushing on their little brother Andy. 😂😂😂 If you;re wondering who little brother Andy looks like, picture Barry Gibb without the beard. Check out Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing". Andy had a lot of talent, but also a lot of insecurities trying to live in his famous brothers shadow. That led him down a dark path of drugs and alcohol, which took his life at the age of 30. He passed away from drug induced cardiomyopathy. (Heart issues). Although he had no drugs in his system at the time of his death, the effects of them had already done the damage. For a parent to bury their young son, is beyond what I can grasp, as well as how how his death affected his brothers.
Billy, thank you so much! Please give us MORE! You’ve got to do “What kind of fool” Treat your mind and research the songs written by Barry Gibb! Like Kenny and Dolly’s Island in the Stream.
I remember I had a SILK SHIRT at this time, LOL, the ladies loved it....Billy, you git to watch Saturday Night Fever to understand why the Bee Gees became so famous. They were already great, but SNF took them into the stratosphere
Always tight production. Great to see someone finally with a reaction vid to Jive Talkin. Try Nights on Broadway, How Deep is your Love, Too much Heaven.
The repetitive sound you hear in this song came from Barry Gibb's car traveling over the tar strips of the bridges of downtown Miami. They made this repetitive thump which Barry incorporated into the song, Jive Talking.
This was the come back hit for the Bee Gees that revived their career and put them firmly on the musical path to become the #1 Disco Act of the Disco Era. It hit #1 on the singles chart. Their biggest hit was Night Fever, one of many #1 hits that were released from the soundtrack of the movie Saturday Night Fever. Before this song came out, the Bee Gees sang mostly ballads. Their biggest hit pre-disco era hit #1 in 1970. It is called How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. Their only musical rival during the Disco Era was Donna Summer. She also had many big disco hits and earned the title Queen of Disco. Try her debut hit called Love To Love You Baby which hit #2 on the Billboard Singles Chart.
They hated the word disco and they were shunned in the early 80s because of the backlash directed at it. They called their music contemporary r&b and blue eyed soul
They're are absolutely amazing. Barry Gibb is the one in the middle. I remember at the age of 14, that he and I had a real connection because we were both born on Sept. 1st. On either side of him are the twins. Robin (long hair) and Maurice. In the late 70's and early 80's their brother, Andy Gibb, just burst onto the music scene. Sadly, Andy died I think in '87. He was only 30 years old. It nearly broke Barry. He and Andy were very close. So much talent in that family.
Jive talkin' is still my top favorite of the Bee Gees. These wrote songs for a lot of singers, including their younger brother Andy Gibb (who was the first Gibb to pass away). 'Tragedy' is another classic you might want to try.
From left to right: Maurice, Robin, & Barry Gibb. M&R are fraternal twins; Barry is 3 years older. They began performing at ages 9 & 6; and have composed & written all their songs, in a career spanning 5+ decades. Barry's mostly the lyric, production guy & does amazing vocals; Robin's voice was effortless, one of a kind; & Mo was a music genius, harmonist, & the glue that held them together. Mo [Maurice/'Morris'] died in 2003 & the BeeGees, sadly, were no more. Barry & Robin performed at special events, but the BeeGees songwriting magic needed all 3 brothers. Robin died about 9 years after his twin. Barry lives in Miami with his wife of over 50 years & is still writing songs.
Try Alone and also This is Just Where I Came In. Also, since these men are brothers, they have the funniest banter and sense of humor. They do practical jokes and poke fun of each other on stage ! Started singing as children, professionally !!!
Jive Talking is one of those songs that you can’t help but move to
Billy would have had a blast going dancing in the the 70’s!
Everything thing wrote and record turned to GOLD....
Barry has said that the rhythm that was made when he was driving daily over a bridge gave him that opening beat to the song
that bridge here in Miami was part of the Venetian Causeway from mainland Miami to the Island (and city of) Miami Beach.

That bass combined with those falsetto’s…… Priceless!
Please, please can we do homage to the fat bass line that Maurice Gibb laid down on this track?? May his musical memory always be a blessing
👍❤
RIP Maurice.
Hallelujah! He was so talented, and the glue that held them together. RIP, Mo.

Maurice slays the bass on this song.
They owned the disco era. Not only did they sing , they also wrote for other singers of the era.
Billy they were amazing, people say they were "disco" well the thing is they were around long before disco,
and they were song writers, they wrote so many song for so many people, some people have no idea
the catalog they have!
Wrote for Michael Jackson I think, among others
🎶" Islands in the Stream " 🎶😊 Yep ! , A Beegees Song ! Made Popular with Mr. Kenny Roger's and Ms. Dolly Parton.
Islands in the stream

Immortality for Celine Dion. So many songs.

Low key, it's their best song. Just a complete bop from start to finish
I love Bee Gees!!! Thanks for this reaction. (R.I.P. Maurice and Robin) You should react to them singing live :)
Hey billy nice reaction. The Bee Gees had a song called (You should be dancing) dam what a vibe that song is. It’s my favorite bee gees song.
Billy, Welcome to the time when people had to ACTUALLY know how to play instruments and sing.
Billy, in many different interviews the brothers Gibb have all stated that they would most prefer to be remembered as songwriters first and musician/singers second. Welcome to the disco beat of the 70s... danced a bunch to this - back in the day! ( yes, I’m old)....
I’m old too, same age as Berry, loved them then love them now. They keep me young and dancing‼️💃💘
Bee Gees my favorite group for 40 yrs
I was fortunate enough to see the BeeGees at the height of their career.1979 2nd row center.I was 6 years old!

They are so talented. Disco memories!! Thanks!
Yeah.. that's it... disco era music.
Growing up in the seventies again!!
No other artists today can bring the heat like the Brothers Gibb did.
Thanks Billy for bringing some of us back to our childhood days.
Welcome to the funky world of disco, Billy.
Bee gees stands for Brothers Gibb. Probably one of the shortest videos I have seen from Billy.

Yes, more please :) Barry's falsetto voice on their song, Too Much Heaven, is legendary!!!!
Shimmy them shoulders billy 🕺🏿💃🏻🕺🏿💃🏻
Love Bee Gees❤️ Try “Words” & “How do you mend a broken heart”. 🔥
Love both of these!
I love that you are loving all of the music that I grew up on
Yes!!!!! “Too much Heaven” and “Night Fever” for another groovy one-💛🤘🏼✌️
Yes please, the falsetto in Barry's voice on Too Much Heaven, is legendary!!!!
Another vote for "Night Fever"
That's one song that makes me smile everytime I hear it

Not wooden. It had "tar strips " on it, as Robin later described it.

I always wanted Andy to join their group Have all of the brothers in the group RIP to Andy, Robin and Maurice Gibb
I was doing the same thing lol!
My absolute favorite Bee Gees song!
Barry Gibb came up with this beat while driving across a long bridge in Florida.
LOL!! It's so nice to see a reactor who can actually move with the music! Have to wince when a reactor cannot seem to get with the beat or the rhythm.
I love the Bee Gees ! So much talent. Watch them live !!!!
Check out Fanny Be Tender With Your Love! One of a ton of their songs.
Fanny be tender and Nights on Broadway are two of my favorites.
Great song! The transitions-just all of it
I love the Bee Gee's I was in high school when the movie Saturday Night Fever hit the scene with the Bee Gee's on the sound track.
Billy, thank you so much! Please give us MORE! You’ve got to do “What kind of fool”
Treat your mind and research the songs written by Barry Gibb! Like Kenny and Dolly’s Island in the Stream.
Islands In The Stream was written by all 3 brothers
Their catalog is immense and so diverse! I Started a Joke, Too Much Heaven, Words, Alone, Nights on Broadway, on and on...
I remember I had a SILK SHIRT at this time, LOL, the ladies loved it....Billy, you git to watch Saturday Night Fever to understand why the Bee Gees became so famous. They were already great, but SNF took them into the stratosphere

As soon as it started I was ready to put on my roller skates and hit the floor!
If you like the Bee Gees try some of their early stuff the one I like is When the Lights Went Out in Massachusetts.
Awesome reaction!!!
Driving music at its best!

he came up with this beat to this song when driving over a NYC bridge, the sound of the wheels made the beat, that gave him the idea
All 3 brothers, not he ( Barry)
Two more bee gees songs too much heaven and wedding day
That Moog bass is excellent.
Ha Billy to a reaction to Bee Gees Night Fever
Have you done You should be dancing? If you liked this you’re going to love that one 👍🏻
You made me smile. 😊
4 dead brothers and one brother left to uphold the 'bee 'gees.
How can anybody not like them?
Hell yes! Brothers Gibb baby!!
