Just proves that Donna Summer is one of the most talented singers ever. She won Grammy awards in 4 different categories including Best Female Rock Vocal. From Rock to Disco.
Donna summer was never about perfection. that's why she only did one take per song. Perfect or not, that was it. They called her the one take wonder, but it just added that rawness and realness to all her music.
When I was 16 back in 1980 I was all about Donna Summer and the whole planet was bopping to her tunes so when I got my license I went to LAX just because I love airplanes and I saw this black woman in front of me on the curb standing there with leopard tights on and sunglasses once you look sideways it was unmistakable it was Donna Summer with her beautiful pug nose I I told my friend David that's Donna Summer he didn't believe me and I said no I swear to God that's Donna Summer I walked up and told her I loved her but she blew me off a little bit then I remember under my members only jacket I had her t-shirt on so I pulled it down in front of her and said see I really love you and she smiled and shook my hand anyway her sisters came up to her and they were walking to her white Mercedes me and my friend followed her all the way but she kept looking back maybe a little nervous but it was the thrill of a lifetime and what are the odds right? I can't help it was divine intervention upon that meeting
hahah Hoagy! She probably thought you were going to throw her into the back of a van! haha. thats seriously so cool you got to meet Donna Summer though unbelievable! what are the chances?!?!? thanks so much for watching i really apprecaite it and thanks for sharing your story!
This is amazing to hear on so many levels. What really stuck out to me is how they are intentionally playing the ending of "Dim All the Lights" at the beginning of this...given they likely knew many of the songs on the album were going to blend into the next song, this leads me to believe they originally were thinking of "Hot Stuff" following "Dim All the Lights" (let's throw out the familiar running order when "hearing" this). I met Donna in 2003 at a signing for her book. Although the event was only supposed to be for Donna to sign her book, I brought my acetate of "Last Dance" that I bought earlier that year which has an unreleased edit and mix of the song, and was cut on I think 10/26/1977 (I'm too lazy to confirm) at Allen Zentz, where they mastered all her records back then. I was thankfully somewhat near the end of the line and saw that a few other people also brought items for Donna to sign in addition to her book. When I got up to Donna, she was really nice...there was no inflated ego whatsoever. I talked with her a bit, and then when I pulled out the acetate, I explained that it was cut at Allen Zentz and Donna said "I know where that place is" (although it was gone by then), and she did not hesitate to sign what previously was the acetate's plain white cover. At first she was going to sign it to me, but instead I asked to sign it "Last Dance" above her signature, which she did beautifully in a silver marker to where it looked as it that was how it could be released where everything was perfectly proportioned. I got to speak with Bruce for quite a bit while Donna was still autographing things, and he was also great to speak with and very nice. After Donna was done, some of us got informally together in the space taking pictures, and then I said my goodbyes and left. A great day...among the best of my life.
Excellent analysis of a sublime recording. Donna Summer was a genuine talent, make no mistake. The quality of her records, the writers (herself) and several others, her choice of producers (John Barry, Giorgio Moroder, Quincy Jones, Richard Perry) her team . . Pete Bellotte, Keith Forsey, Harold Faltermeyer . . Musicians Greg Phillinganes, Ernie Watts, David Foster, Michael Boddicker, Steve & Jeff Porcaro, Rod Temperton, Ray Parker Jnr, Jeff Baxter . . Duets: Streisand/Minnelli . . Sid Sharp (Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra) strings on Live & More . . Oscar, Golden Globe AND Grammy for Last Dance . . And there you have it.
Donna s singing had my atoms go swinging like I was a black female singer at one of these American churches back in the 50’s . (I m not female nor black nor American nor a believer)
New subscriber here. Absolutely love your content but I was wondering if you could do any song by The 1975. I know not everyone is a fan of their writing but their production is amazing and it would be great to dive into the tracks. Keep up the good work
I’ve got at least one session from the 1975 I’ll check out if the other 2 are solid! Will be interested because I’m largely unfamiliar with them but I’ll take your recommendation!

Donna Summer is God
I saw Donna Summer in concert 8 times. Her voice was so powerful, it reverberated right through you like a shockwave.
In every sense it was a true rock and roll record-even down to the way she sang it.

Such a nice encounter with Donna. Thank you for sharing your memory here with us! 💜
@@kenray-visuals-life You're welcome!
Donna Summer sings like a cocky rowdy teenager she is a goddess
Nice one! You should get the Mac Arthur park one... That's like a wet dream.

Very interesting!!, Amazing vocals & guitar Solo.. Could you imagine breaking down the dual vocal tracks of the Orgasmic “love to love you baby” 😮
You should do "Lucky" from the same album, _Bad Girls_ . The harmonizing vocals are outstanding.
i would do the whole album if i could get my hands on it! Love Donna and love Giorgio!
The kick was among the loudest in that era. I've read that Buggles' Video Killed The Radio Star then surpassed it as far as percentage of mix goes.
Awesome channel.

Donna rocks with this song. Looking for some Hot Stuff ❤
Love that these stems start with the end of "Dim All The Lights"! Is that right?
Excellent!
Do She Works Hard For The Money please..
