Wonderful-- Go Rwanda! Thank you for saving the gorillas & thanks 60 Minutes for sharing this wonderful story -- & ditto to Ellen DeGeneres -- just fabulous!
Before Gorillas in the Mist, I remember reading about Dian Fossey in National Geographic. Before she was murdered, she wrote several articles for the Geographic over a period that spanned more than 10 years. I am convinced that her work and these articles are what saved the mountain gorillas.
Such magnificent animals. It is hard not to see ourselves in them. Those that are fortunate enough to see the mountain gorilla in their natural habitat, up close and personal, truly are so fortunate. Maybe one day I will be so fortunate.
My brother and I went Sept, 2022, ole farts from Florida. We crossed over to Uganda with our tour guides, the fee is 700 per person. Our first trip to Africa, never felt in danger, the country prides itself on having a clean city, everyone was very friendly. I have been many places around the world, and did not have any idea how much the trip and the one short hour with the Gorillas would affect me, the trip was amazing, if you ever have ever thought about this trip, by all means go, it is truly one of the never forget trips.
I SAW THEM IN 1994 I THINK I DIED AND WENT TO HAVEN!!! THEY ARE SÓOOOOO GENTLE RESPECT THEM AND THEY WILL DO NOHING TO YOU WOW HOW I WISH HUMANS HAD 1 OUNCE OF THEIR GNTLENESS

Hello, Msr. I am Sohin from Cambodia. I want to asked you. Do they are have the story book for selling of Dian Fossy? If they have, where the place I have to bought it book? Thanks you before you reply!❤ thanks you so much!❤
I am not an expert on endangered animals but I think conservationists sometimes make erroneous assumptions based on what they observe. For example, the panda eats mainly bamboo but would this be true if their habitat had not been reduced and if there were no humans on the planet to prevent them migrating to other places. The same can be said for mountain gorillas which have a more varied diet than the panda but even so, they would have a far greater selection of foods available to them if humans did not exist. Perhaps if their geographical areas of conservation could be expanded to include other foods, like lower mountain slopes and valley areas for the mountain gorillas, then they might eventually collonized these areas and use the new diet available to them.
Yeah I had a capitalist take on this too, but as long as we have oligarchy + lack distribution of wealth, at least we have some tiny portion of the wealthy chipping in to expand preservation, benefit local communities + restore habitat for the gorgeous fascinating apes before it was too late 😏
That is a wonderful start, however they must have more habitat! Humans have treated the animal world with such selfish indifference. Also 10% sounds a little light. The people living there and the government must understand what riches they have in the wildlife, but I can understand that people need to eat and the ground is rich for growing food. Also shout out to Ellen Degeneres for her donation. Where are the other rich celebrities hearts??
@@dreamlife2351 because it’s true, there’s on going border conflicts between Rwanda and the Congo, Rwanda with the support from west are trying to redraw the borders
Usually don't like whataboutism, but your take is a good one. Not about Ellen personally (I mean who cares) but of her class using even the tiniest fraction of their enormous wealth to preserve + expand habitat + benefit local under-served communities. A concept worth striving for
Gorillas living in their natural habitat are a treasure for Rwanda 🇷🇼
good luck my friend )
A treasure for the world! ❤
THIS IS SO COOL! I feel like we in the west very rarely hear the good news from African Nations. We should be hearing more of these great stories!
Love seeing how they're integrating the local community - everyone benefits beautifully
The world needs more of this. I’d love to contribute to a project like this someday
good luck my friend )
This was a great story and its so wonderful what they used tourist monies to create their communities.

Small place left 4 gorillas to live. becouse of the farms? Tourists must save them couse our relatives.☺😊😀😁😂

Diane Fosse's work was certainly a major contributing factor.
Tourism Revenue Sharing with the neighboring people! What a great idea.
But shouldn't that be how everything should be? Isn't this earth and everything in it all of ours ?
Such magnificent animals. It is hard not to see ourselves in them. Those that are fortunate enough to see the mountain gorilla in their natural habitat, up close and personal, truly are so fortunate. Maybe one day I will be so fortunate.
Great report! More of this please
I hope Africa flourishes. They deserve to be great.
Agreed. Too many years of blood and suffering. I hope the pendulum starts to swing and the first human continent becomes celebrated and peaceful.
For starters, they just deserve to exist undisturbed/unharmed. If they achieve "greatness", that's a bonus.

dian fossey is such a treasure, she deserves the nobel piece price!
Loved this story. Love the gorillas
This is what conservation is people, not a stupid zoo that’s unnatural with no space.
Gorillas are no doubt my favorite animals! They are so much like us. It’s just awesome!! ❤️🦍🦍🦍
Some good news from Rwanda 🇷🇼
Great leadership from the Rwanda government

Thank you Ellen D
Eu amo os gorilas, tenho muita vontade de chegar perto desses animais muito parecidos com os humanos, na melhor parte.
There are a lot of species that are not "similar to humans" that need attention/assistance, too.
Right on!

Heartwarming. There are so few success stories like this. Good on Ellen DeGeneres for funding the new building. 👏 👍❤🦍
good luck my friend )
Whata fascinating animal
Dianne would be proud!
I love gorillas and I love almost all of this story...except that only rich people are allowed to see them
Too many tourists are bad for the habitat, plus more money allows the country to build more. This isn't supposed to be the worlds petting zoo lmao
Yeah I had a capitalist take on this too, but as long as we have oligarchy + lack distribution of wealth, at least we have some tiny portion of the wealthy chipping in to expand preservation, benefit local communities + restore habitat for the gorgeous fascinating apes before it was too late 😏
Lovely !!
Charge $12000 per group and only invest $1200 in their communities something not adding up lol
Awesome 👏
I feel that people will destroy their home.
Bright girl
WOW.......
I want to help
Save the apes this is a good story.
Thanks to The Ellen Fund for this,

I have a new found respect for Ellen DeGeneres. She is more than amazing, but an extraordinary human being. Wow.

Many people contribute to worthy causes and prefer to remain anonymous.
🙏👍🥰✌️🌈💕
Seriously just stop using the name "60 Minutes" you never upload any videos over 15 minutes lol.
DISLIKED BECAUSE OF THE COVID MASKS
So pathetic that the Covid masks bothered you enough to prompt your (moronic) comment.
You don't help conservation by insulting a nation spirit! That's not concern, it's contempt!
Americans patronising yet again! And all the stupid gimmicky stereotypes to attract interest.
Wtt u babbling bout
Rwanda they don’t have nothing maybe it’s could be Democratic republic of Congo that is so fake I can’t believe that
These gorillas are not from Rwanda that park belongs to Congo
Why do you say that?
@@dreamlife2351 because it’s true, there’s on going border conflicts between Rwanda and the Congo, Rwanda with the support from west are trying to redraw the borders
@@umwanahajati1231 lol the park is located in Congo tho not Rwanda so you do your research
go back to school ! you have more to learn!
@@yuhhweahz3505 Am a Rwandese and I know my history. There are people like you who are always there to criticize others. Thank you
Ellen can help Rwanda to built gorilla park but not the poor gibbon in California

I think a person’s own money is theirs to do as they wish. She will never please everyone, so she picks causes that speak to her. You can do the same
No gibbons are native to California.
How about saving America
Doesn’t really matter.
Such a narrow-minded, provincial point of view. We all share one Earth.
Love this topic but Leslie????
Leslie is a joke
