- Wild donkeys rescued in Bonaire at the Donkey Sanctuary. We visit the donkey sanctuary Bonaire to discuss the history of donkeys on Bonaire island and the animal rescue effrots of Marina Melis. Wild donkeys have been on Bonaire since the 1700’s and have been free since the 1950’s when the donkey rescue on Bonaire began its efforts.
