A 30 year old engine is not 'exquisite'. it has only 98kN thrust with afterburners. AMCA has a requirement of 2 110kN thrust engines so how are they going to use this engine for AMCA? Our own indigenous Kaveri engine has a thrust of 81kN and its development started more than 30 years ago.

@@KrishGupta-e3e The AMCA programme seems to have been downgraded and now this engine will be used for MK1 variant. The MK2 variant now has a requirement of 110 kN thrust which was earlier the requirement of the first AMCA prototype.
Revisiting the 414 engine design right from drawing board is included in deal.For increased thrust.
Govt should have also taken Safran deal.From the point of view of atleast our engineers will start getting experience in Jet engine.

30 years old still used in some of the best fighter planes. Also in those 30 years it is modified for the requirement of the fighter jett. It can be said as a fighter airframe is old but still new technologies are installed as per requirement. The most powerful version can provide 117kN of thrust for f18. It is said that India asked for a more powerful version than this for our fighter program

Kya magaj mari. Government ko bolo offer karne ke liye to scientific pools an award of 250 million US dollar to develop technology for jet engines in india for India. Both national and international scientist.
Atmanirbhar will take many more years still, everytime we hear something is coming but still we are not 100% self reliant. Design & metallurgy is key i guess ? Which we are not able to master. I wish we master every bit of jet engines technology ASAP.
What is that 20% technology that USA will not be giving. Is USA giving the engine free? Can India trust USA seeing their behavior in supply of F404 engines?

Pratt and whitney 150KN engine is used in F-35. Will US give that! We have to do more research and scale up Kaveri engine to build atleast 120 KN thrust. Then it can be integrated into AmCA.

414 isn't the best engine of US. The best engine is in F35 and in F22 and in the 6th gen fighter plane that is under development.

It’s a pure commercial deal. And trust -- not relevant here as the technology is 35/ 40 years old and the crucial technology pieces anyway are not to be transferred. It’s essentially a route to control firstly the production rate of IAF aircraft, no export at all and to stall the deal with Rolls Royce , Safran.
So no reason to go gaga over this deal. As it is the record of US doesn’t breed trust- look at the Tejas engine supply- already a year delayed. So grin and bear it.
Bharat should manufacture weapons, develop technology in Bharat and made them in collaboration with Russia and buy from Russia but should never buy from america. Buying weapons from america means helping economy of Criminal america. Bharat should Not collaborate with america for weapons manufacturing. Also america weapons are expensive. american weapons r less advanced technically as compared to Russia. Russia transfer technology to Bharat without any conditions but this is not the case with america. america put too many restrictions on weapon usage,where as Russia always give free hand. even if we get it, it should not be a matter of celebration. rather the government should be ashamed as they have not funded our scientists properly so that they could develop an engine comparable to what other countries are developing. our indigenous engine has 87 kN thrust which is less than half of what US currently has. Receiving an inferior engine in terms of present technological advancements should not be a matter for celebration

I for one won’t hold my breath and will wait till it actually happens! Besides you always make numerous technical mistakes due to lack of attention to detail and intellectual laziness. FYI, even if it happens technology transfer is not 100% , critical tech will be held back and only less critical 80% will be transferred.
