Dude we must be birds of a feather - I've been using the MXR Bass Compressor, Big Muff and Boss Chorus for years and they're my "gotta haves" nowadays. I'd love to try the DarkGlass! Great content - keep Rockin 🤘
I am definitely a "always on compressor" type of guy. I play through a Helix usually, and will most of the time have a compressor at the beginning of the chain, and the the LA Studio Comp usually at the end as a "post" compressor (like you would use a rack in a studio setting).
I have Big Muff and Plasma Pedal. The first minutes playing through Plasma, i had goosebumps. It so overwhelming. Bass combined with high voltage. Pure Fun. You didn't show much crossover on Big Muff. You can make really great sound adjustments with it.
Deluxe Big Muff is the best pedal I ever had. That crossover was amazing for breakdowns when I was in a metal band - I hit it, and the low end was insane and got lots of reactions from the crowd that I loved.
Awesome demo, dagen 😎🤘🏻🎸 I personally liked the darkglass b3k and the boss bass chorus. I use distortion and modulation pedals on bass and I got myself some killer tones with it. Another good modulation pedal to use on bass is flanger. Underrated and radical sounding on bass.
I still love pedals on bass, my go-tos have always been my guitar pedals like my Boss OD-1X, CH-1 and BF-3, EHX Big Muff and my Cry Baby wah and it sounds awesome, plus it helps me get closer to some of my favourite bass tones (CH-1: Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division (Peter Hook), BF-3, Forty Six & 2 - Tool (Justin Chancellor), Big Muff & Cry Baby: Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), For Whom the Bell Tolls, Call of Kthulu - Metallica (Cliff Burton))
I ditched the Big Muffs for the Walrus Audio EON and Ages 5 followed by an MXR 6 band EQ. Amazing fuzz and distortion. For compression you can’t beat the Cali 76. For chorus I discovered the Eddy by ElectroHarmonix. Great sound with vibrato as well. I also use the C4 synth which sounds great and replaces the need for a separate octave and envelope pedal. Also MXR M152 micro flanger and Phase 90 along with the Hall of Fame 2 reverb into an Ampeg SCR DI. Powered by a Voodoo Lab Mondo. Great sounding board.
I couldn't understand what was said at around 12:27. It sounded to me like "little Sarah McGraugh" was the name of the "iconic" song played by Joy Division's bass player. I hope it's just me, but UA-cam has taught me that once I mishear something, I can't hear it correctly until I look up in the transcript. Which isn't available for me on this video. So it's "Love Will Rip Us Apart." Yeah. I've heard that one.
That's the only pedal I have. Unfortunately I hadn't used it in a really long time, and now it doesn't want to work. Trying to track down the problem, but haven't figured it out yet.
I’ve had one on my board for years but barely touched it over my other fuzz. But I recently discovered it blends way better in a live mix than my go-to fuzz because of the way it sits with the guitars
@@stevengonz I personally use a Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie over this. It’s got less of a mid scoop altogether and a nice clean blend knob and the right thing going on in the top end. Really recommend if you want something a little better.
I've been playing professionally for many decades. And never had any "must" pedals. I've had "they want you to spend money" equipment of all sorts. But other than a bass a amp and cable. Nothing else was "must"
That’s how it is for a lot of people, and obviously I’m sure it still sounded great. The added option of effects though is something that might enhance the tone when in the right context.
If you've been playing professional bass for decades, then you know in which situations the small, fine devices can make you and your band sound better, especially live.
@@zulu5157 the only "must have" is talant. Everything else is just a gadget. Yeah sometimes you need an effect of some sort. But after doing many studio and live sessions. The general audience doesn't know if you're using a $10 or $10,000 must have. I actually had more ask what I was using when I had my cheap clunker pedal board than when I had my tour rig. So this nonsense of you "must have" this expensive gadget is nothing more than ego food. I'll bet you a million bucks nobody is going to listen to any song because I used an expensive whatever over a cheap one and they are never going to know the difference if you played the same song using cheap "junk". Nobody and I mean nobody listens and says ... Oh did you hear that brand X delay unit ... LMAO They listen to what and how you play. I did blind tests of solid state amps vs tubes. And like 80% of the time the life long tube amp users picked the solid state recording thinking it was the tube amp. So that pretty much sums it up.
@@johnzawicki5032calm down and come down. The fact that effects don't make you play bass better is a piece of wisdom for children and no one cares what effects you use and when. As a modern bassist, you can't avoid the topic of pedals.
Love the content of this channel and always a pleasure to see more BASS action. 😀
Glad you enjoy it! 🤘
I'm beginning to believe that Dagan is the only one running this channel
I'm OK with that lol.
Everyone else is just Dagan in disguise.
All Dagan all the time 🤘🏻
👀🤣
A one man show 🤘👹🤘
Excellent! Keep the bass content coming
🤘🤘
Nice job explaining the pedals and demoing how they are used. Thanks!

Been using my EHX Bass Balls (same one from the 80s) and a driver. Love the vid. Keep the bass thumping. 🤘
I love Dagen's ❤️ and enthusiasm!!!! Its intoxicating!!! Makes me want to play more!!!! 😂😂😂😂😊😊

Hard to Handle - Black Crows
It was hard to handle and you were probably thinking of the black crowds version
YES! Thank you! haha

i recognized ten seconds to love on that first compressor play through 😉
Great review! Thanks for sharing!
Shoutout for 10 Seconds to Love. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Fuzz on a 5-string is like a warm hug from Cthulhu.
I super appreciate all the info! All the picking hurt my eyes tho 😵
That sound at 12:51 is like Shakespeare playing bass lol
What model is that Jazz Bass ??? That thing is GORGEOUS 😍

Comment in the first minute- Jean-Luc Piccard voice: "there are four pedals!"
Can you get a sound for Muse Uprising using them 5 pedals?
Hard to Handle-Otis Redding* famously covered by the Black Crowes
And sampled by Everlast on 7 Years
Any one tried the boss bass synth pedal? Is it worth it?
I didn’t hear a difference with the compression pedal
no boss obd -3. huh.

It sucks really bad. Clean blend isn’t even clean and too much high end and gain for an overdrive.

Too hot to handle bass riff

I know I am in the minority, but the big Muff sounds awful.

It’s because he has the tone knob at max. They sounds way better at lower tone settings.
@@FarewelltokingzI second this, I use mine with tone all the way down and it makes it more midrangey
