I binge watched the two Jodie Foster videos. It was a pleasure to watch them both - serious interviews with some levity, not too much promotion but conversations ("quand même"). One thought a lot of French words like la présidente, la réalisatrice ...depending on when/where you learnt French or who taught you meant the President's wife etc rather than woman President etc.
Hi Tony! Sweet to see you back here (I'm cooking up a new live program for 2022, I hope to see you live again when that takes shape) Jodie Foster's French is excellent. It's clear that she speaks better than many natives. It's interesting that you'd bring up this rule of "La présidente", meaning "The president's wife" etc. It might be different in other French speaking countries, but for me as a French man it's mostly an old and outdated practice. In the famous 18th century book Les Liaisons Dangereuse (which became several movies), one character is known as "La présidente Tourvel", she is, of course, the wife of a man whose job title includes "président". As far as I know the only such term that is still in use is "Madame l'ambassadrice" to refer to an ambassador's wife. It does make some sense considering that an ambassador's wife will have to relocate and participate actively in the social aspects of her husband's job, and considering the very formal and traditional practices in such circles. For this reason, a woman ambassador will have to be referred to as "Madame l'ambassadeur" to avoid confusion.
Thank you for making this (the previous one as well). And yes, I would love if you could make the videos you suggested here. I also have maaany videos of french interviews with her, so if you need any, just say it. ^^ Btw, there's one called "Jodie Foster - French interview for Contact 1997" that is only 4 min long. Have you seen it? She speaks about religion and faith (the themes of the movie Contact). I highly recommend.
I've seen it now :) Thanks. I put it on my list for a future reaction video. I'm happy you enjoy these videos. If you know any other interviews with her which I haven't reacted to yet, please do share the links here. They're not always easy to find.
@@frenchfluency Ok, these are the ones I have: This is another one from when she was doing the press tour for Le Petit Homme: ua-cam.com/video/-TASHnftfdo/v-deo.html This is her opening speech at Cannes (I think?): ua-cam.com/video/qadz-7ArVyc/v-deo.html This is my favourite interview that she gave at Cannes (you haven't reacted to this one yet): ua-cam.com/video/sZka6C51Q9A/v-deo.html This is the last one I found from Cannes, but it's very short: ua-cam.com/video/Q-to2rzny0E/v-deo.html In this intervew she's promoting the movie Désigné Coupable, but outside of Cannes: ua-cam.com/video/5x0EWRZOlL4/v-deo.html Here she talks about the movie Money Monster: ua-cam.com/video/L6S8xrYmJDM/v-deo.html And here as well: ua-cam.com/video/HXCH7bF2Yt8/v-deo.html This is a really short and weird video from when she was 14 years old playing in the street with a bunch a boys (it's cute): ua-cam.com/video/qhWNWvBDjUk/v-deo.html In this one she's promoting the movie The Brave One: ua-cam.com/video/FNGgAvkC02I/v-deo.html Here she's giving an interview after the Cesars in 2011: ua-cam.com/video/nwFJ0SozPpo/v-deo.html In this one she's promoting the movie Flight Plan (part 1): ua-cam.com/video/ToFM-_yibNg/v-deo.html Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/lPCXC5fZaqE/v-deo.html And finally the one I said earlier of her when she was promoting the movie Contact (you said you found it, but just to make sure LOL): ua-cam.com/video/0BkhxBqr1Y4/v-deo.html Sorry, I know it's a lot but I hope these help you to see the evolution of her french over the years. This way, you can pick the ones you like to react. ^^
This is a very late comment, but I just wanted to address the thought that because Ms Foster wasn't aware of Guantanamo, Americans in general weren't aware of it. That is certainly not the case, although I can understand if someone didn't have a full picture of the "activities" there and only knew the place existed. Thank you for these breakdowns. I am a very new student in French, but can understand much more than I can speak, and your instruction is really helpful.
On dit aussi en anglais « the film was too violent » parce que c’était l’opinion de tout le monde à cette époque là. Maintenant peut-être l’opinion serait différent donc on utilise « was » en anglais aussi dans cette phrase.

I wonder how Canadian French compares to Parisian?Learning another language affords a person a sense of superiority, and justifiably so. She spends her time constructively. Jodie
Canadians and Parisians can understand each other, and often make fun of each other for the differences in their accents and vocabulary. If, as a French learner, your goal is to interact mostly with a particular variant of the language, such as Canadian French, I strongly recommend using mostly that variant’s content for your immersion practice. When you are learning, it’s easy to get thrown of by accents, and you can avoid this issue by getting used to the right (for you) accent from the get go.
Brilliant video. Love all the corrections you made, makes me aware off all the mistakes I make when I speak. Merci pour ça.
Happy to help! thanks for the feedback :)

In particular, I was more impressed with how she coped with those really long wordy questions than her detailed and appropriate replies.

Thank you for the clarification on French grammar. I enjoy these videos; thank you very much. The French language is very beautiful. 🌞🌈💕

I think Jodie Foster is probably trying to say that she had not heard of Guantanamo before the events of 9/11.
