Great Video! I am currently looking at classes to transfer, as I just got into USC as a spring admit. Like you, I'm a CS major. Just wondering, did you take an CS classes first semester? They recommend taking some, but I was wondering if it rly matters or will I fall behind if I just knock out GE credits. Thanks!
i didn't take any cs classes in the fall. i would've if John Cabot had offered them but unfortunately they didn't. i think it is uncommon to find classes that count for csci103 anywhere, actually. that being said im only 1 semester behind the normal cs track and there are about 100 other spring admit / transfer kids in the same spot. it isn't a big deal at all. If you can fulfill csci103 outside of USC, go ahead and do it. your foundation might be a bit unstable coming into 104 which is suboptimal (104 is the nightmare CS class) but still definitely doable. if you have little to no coding experience and were planning on starting with csci102, as some people do, you'll be in a harder spot. most people, however, start with 103 which is essentially AP CS but with c++ instead of java. i would just recommend knocking out as much as you can, doing GEs that double dip in terms of they requirements they fulfill and completing your writ 130 requirement (i guarantee it's easier taking it at a CC than at USC). maybe take a math class as well, such as calc2 (if you need that), calc3, or diff eq.
How do I sent my transcript over to USC from the community college I'm going to? I watched this video and it helped me to pick classes but I'm confused about that still. The community college semester isn't over yet so I'm somewhat lost
Once you have an official transcript I think you just mail it to USC. Check the "Domestic Credit" section here: arr.usc.edu/services/articulation/generalinfo.html
Hi Max. Thanks for this video. I'm glad I happened upon it. My son is a Spring 2023 admit and looking at studying abroad for the Fall. He is leaning towards Switzerland, but it seems that most common/popular choice is Rome... like you! Wondering... after your experience abroad if you have any other insights to share. Should we take another look at the John Cabot (Rome) vs. Franklin (Switzerland)? Did John Cabot have an academic travel requirement?
I know lots of people that studied in Switzerland and loved it, it's a great option. There was no academic travel requirement for John Cabot. I personally picked JCU because of their wider array of classes and because it typically has the largest USC population (for my year I believe JCU had 150 USC students including both spring admits and trojan transfer students, where as Franklin had closer to 30).

i took writ150 equivalent, calc2 equivalent, and 4 GEs

What was your gpa when you applied to USC? I'm a community college student as well and USC is my dream school :(
my gpa was around a 4.1 weighted, 3.8 unweighted
