My sister and I hiked the Inca Trail in 2014, we were 64 and 66 at the time. It was my lifetime dream and your wonderfully documented trip has brought it all back in vivid detail. I feel like I am right back on top or Dead Woman's pass again only I can now breath as I enjoy your adventure. Thank you for the memories.
I was thinking maybe I was too old .. so happy to see your comment. I am 62. Are you avid hikers? Did you do lots of special training/preparation for the hike? Were you on a tour like this with porters etc? I worry about not keeping the pace. I also like to go a bit slower so not rushing too fast. So awesome you did this. This video has my heart skipping a beat .. never too late, right!
What an amazing father and son trip, I am from Peru leaving in the US for over 20 year now and although I have been to Machu Picchu many times and done the trail and even guided a few trips, it still takes my breath away. Thank for your beautiful narration. Terry
I’ve spend countless hours watching videos on UA-cam and this one is by far the most amazing video I have seen. The narration and production from start to finish is so excellent this video should be shown on National Geographic. Best of all is that you have made this trek with your son and you will forever have that bond. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing this experience with everyone
My husband and I are planning this same adventure. I’ve watched hours and hours and as other commenters have said, this is by far the best experience video out there. This is the one I share with family and friends when they inquire about what we are embarking upon. What a beautiful trip for you and your son! Well done sir!
wow what a trip, I can't even begin to comprehend how special it must've been. Your son, Elliot, seems like a great man and you like a great father! Amazing video
How can anyone give a thumbs down are you so calloused. Not only is this man amazing in his wonderfully simple but perfectly apt narration fantastic amature filming but ends on the best note possible... WOW!!!!!!!!! great video. Excellent presentation, pace, narrative, every word tightly linked to the point and time, but also linked to the bigger picture. Fantastic job Jon
I must say that you are by far the greatest story teller I've heard. You have given a beautiful place a very personal story. It's heartwarming to hear men share part of their lives with others. You have gone on a trip that I have dreamed of doing but know that I never could (due to disability). I would like to say thank you for sharing this with the world. The way you tell it is so much better than any "documentary" I've seen. You give it such a personal touch. Again, thank you for this!

I just finished this journey myself and my oh my you did a amazing job. Thank you for putting this together. My family was able to watch and see what we accomplished! I will be back to Peru soon as I feel like there is so much more to see and experience!
Thank you for sharing this amazing journey with me today. What a wonderful journey for you to share with someone as special as your son. Thank you and may you have many more special times like this one with Elliot. Thank you.
The only thing on my bucket list is visiting Machu Picchu. Alas, my age and health keep me from going but your video made me feel almost as if I was on the hike! Such a wondrous, amazing place! Thank you for allowing me to make the journey!
Lucky you!! So lucky Will never be able to do this (now 65 and disabled), but you have allowed me to do this with your wonderful video!! THANKS to both Jon and Elliott
So very proud of you! As a 50 year old and a Peruvian by birth, this is at the top of my bucket list. I left Peru as a young teen and never been back. I will get to Macchu Picchu...one day! Thank you for your awesome narration and visuals of this amazing place. Thank you, thank you.

My wife and I visited Peru in January and simply loved the country and it’s people. The Peruvians are amazingly friendly and we never felt uneasy there. The journey to Machu Picchu can only be described as breathtaking, and perplexing when you attempt to understand how they could have constructed this site and many others 500+ years ago. This journey should be #1 on anyone’s bucket list.
I am sitting here in my kitchen working and looking at the cold dreary rain swept view out my window here in the uk and was Doing as we all do flick through you tube for something to watch when I saw this. I too did the same Inca trail journey many years ago with my wife and the memories came flooding back I stopped what I was doing to fall back into that feeling you felt as I watched it, you truly put your soul into this and that will live on in this video. I Believe we all need to travel and experience what wonders the world has to offer it is so easy to get caught up. Thank you great video. We used a company called Llama travel who did and excellent job organising our trip.
Jon! I am leaving to trek the Inca Trail in 8 days. I have watched countless videos. Stubbles on yours today and it is so good! A million times thank you for such a beautiful account of your own personal journey!
Thanks Jon for sharing this amazing experience about my beloved Peru, I can feel the excitement and wonder as you explore the ruins and paths of the Incas. We feel proud and happy to be descendants of this great culture, that now also belongs to the world. I am happy to see that you shared this experience with your son, It's something that both of you will treasure forever, great example for many fathers and sons to follow.
came across this by accident today - a wonderful trip - I went to Macchu Picchu the 'easy way' by bus and train a few years ago- even then I knew I couldn't manage the Inca Trail with increasing arthritis. Now I feel almost as if I had done it, with your fantastic documentary images and commentary, A 'feel good' story - I admire your energy and stamina, and storytelling perfection. Thank you so much!
Wow. What quality viewing. This is brilliant. The best travel video I have ever viewed. The father/son element, hit home, and made me teary-eyed. My father passed away in March of this year, 2019, and I would have loved to have been on a 4-day hike to Macchu Picchu with my father one day. You guys will always have that memory to cling too. No one...can take it away from you. Two thumbs up on a superb video/review/documentary on Macchu Picchu, and the Inca Trail. 👍☀️👍 You have a new subscriber. This really was...quality viewing.
You did an outstanding job of narrating your trek. I could not have enjoyed it more. Your tribute to your sone was very special. I am 67, and I hope to make the hike. I am very inspired! Thank you.
Did the Inca Trail back in 2002 for Cycle Peru 2002(Asthma Campaign). Was an amazing adventure and will never forget. Machu Picchu was everything you would love to see. I will go back one day hopefully with my children and wife. I am British from a place called Malvern near Worcester. I now live in Chile, been here for over 8 years. Anyone thinking of doing the Inca Trail, Do it!! Beautiful part of Peru you will never forget.
Receive my sincere congratulations. It is one of the best videos I've seen, regarding the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. I liked two things, especially: The way the video is produced, and the fact that it is an adventure shared by a father with his son. This last one moves me because I also made the trip with my children and it is an unforgettable thing. Thank you very much for visiting my country and for sharing the beautiful history of your adventure. Greetings.
A wonderful vicarious trip. Machu Picchu has been on my bucket list for years, but, alas, I have waited too long. At 83 with a disabled husband in long term care, my dream will not happen. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure.😎
Watched a few minutes, then ended up propping my phone up next to the bath and watching the rest. The best travel story I've seen in years. Thanks for sharing Jon
Great trip and an a wonderful story. As a Peruvian, I have to thank you twice for visiting my country and for one of the nicest and complete Machu Picchu videos. It is clear that every word has been chosen very carefuly. Best regards.
VA Mendoza...your appreciation was felt by me as a reader of the comments under this video. IT definitely was a beautiful video and appreciation of a father toward his son. Makes 'me' feel to want to do this Trail in appreciation of the country itself. Thank you.
What an amazing descriptive tour you took us on. It was like being there. My son in law also made the same treck you did, but was more focused on the climb than photos. He did take many, but not like you. At the top he spoke of the spirituality and the Eagles he watched below flying. Bless and thank you borh, your guide and porters as well.
Thanks for coming to my country, this video is very illustrative for other tourists who wants to visit Machu Picchu, specially the Inca Trail !!! I hope you had have a great trip!!!
Loved your adventure! Felt as if I was right there next to you and your son. Your narration was riveting and dramatic as it should be. And your ending saluting your son tugged at my heart. Awesome.
Of all the videos I’ve watched, this by far is my most favorite. Thank you for taking time on every details I need to know about the trail. It’s very informative
This is AMAZING thank you so much for not only the amazing pictures and videos, but also for the narration of this entire video! You did an outstanding job
Jon Bravo, bravo bravo, bravo...There isn't anything "hidden in there" all was hidden inside you heart. You are an awesome father, traveler, video editor, commentator and photographer. Bravo, bravo and more bravo... you just left a great sample to the whole WEST of the world (the new world) of what it takes to be a respectful father. Hugs to you Jon and hugs to your son for having this great father and being inherited this wonderful memory for all his following generations. I do thank you for admiring and describing in such a respectful way all the people who helped you made this a wonderful experience.
What a great tribute to your son Elliott. It's so nice that you're still on good terms even though he's an adult. I enjoyed every minute of your video.
I did Machu Picchu with a friend in 1995 (we took the train) and it was pure joy and wonderment, just as you state! We took a three day trip into the Amazon and it was unbelievable as well. It was like a Mad-Max movie in Lima (we have no idea as to what poverty really is in the States compared to Lima back then). Changed the way I look at the world forever! GREAT video and thank you for sharing!
We were there in 1970 and again in '75....no crowds then, and no "handrails" on the Huayna Picchu trail! Still a magical place, even on film. Thanks for this WONDERFUL father-son adventure - so well-told and filmed.
WOW.... THAT WAS AMAZING..!!! Tears dripping down my face at the end... I wish I would have seen something like this when I was much Younger... You would have talked me right in to going... Now, I am at the End of my life's Trip, and as I sit her watching youtube, oxygen tube to my nose, (wanted to offer you at pull during your Steep steps) having just lived something I will never fit into my 'bucket', but through Your eyes (gopros eyes) Feeling as if I were a Part of Your trip of a lifetime with your Son.... Now, I am really crying... but, I say THANK YOU SO MUCH for allowing me along, on your trip... I had fun & will never forget it... God has Blessed Me Through You.... God's Blessings for the rest of your life, May he take you through Many More Paths... I am so Glad You have crossed mine.... Much Love Gina
Usted si que me ha emocionado, ha hablado desde el corazón. Yo también visité MachuPicchu con mi familia y fue maravilloso. que Dios la bendiga itshallbeknown...♥
UA-cam sent me here, and I’m glad it did! 🤗 You sure have the gift for storytelling, I could imagine myself there clearly. Thanks to you and your son, this trek made it to my ongoing bucket list! 👌🤗😍🏔 🦙 🇵🇪 🧳 🗺
This is a truly fantastic video. Great quality! I'm disabled and will probably never manage such a trip, so I really appreciate your first hand view, I feel like I'm climbing with you!
I agree with you!! I am disabled also (cancer, on a list for a double lung transplant, hearing aids) and I will never be able to go anywhere but I, too, felt like I was almost on this trip! It was wonderful!!
They used to make jokes about people inviting their friends and neighbors over to se their vacation photos. Portraying it as if it was a chore to be endured like torture. Perhaps some were or are. This however has been an incredible delight! Well done and thank you for inviting us to come and see your trip and share in the closeness even though we will never meet. All good blessings to you and yours.
My neighbor just got back from climbing Machu picchu. Her pics were incredible . It was her birthday so the chef made her a cake out in the middle of nowhere. Great story...thank you.
Very nice, and your thoughts about your son were heart warming. I walked the trail around 40 years ago and there were no toilets, no camp sites, nothing. It started with a ride across a chasm in a little cable car.
Who in their right mind would dislike this video? A wonderful video memory of a special occasion between a father and his son that he chose to share with the world.
I truly enjoyed your story of your journey to Machu Picchu. I wanted to get a details of what it's like to go on the Inca Trail trek and not only did you provide that, but you also shared the value of friendship between parent and adult children! Thank you, Jon! I'm going to Machu Picchu December 2016.
Just happened to come across this brilliantly inspiring father son video, and I must give it to you two. Not only for a well done video that had me laughing, crying, and grinning with a happy heart but for sharing your story and reminding us to live life with love and gratitude. Thank you - kendall
😭😭 I understand why everyone says they were crying 😢 this was beautiful and one of the best documentaries I’ve seen. Thank you for sharing. Much love and God bless you and your family
Jon, and Elliot, this "production" of your trip and travels on The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu was wonderful to watch in its entirety. I see you used a GoPro to do the filming, and filled in with other cameras. The image stabalization worked very well, it was easy to watch you hike up those uneven steps/rocks. What great photography, in everyway. The narration of the daily walks/hikes are mesmerizing, and very interesting. I visited Machu Picchu after experiencing the Galapagos Islands in 2013. I cannot say we hiked the Inca Trail, but we did have wonderful experiences traveling through the Sacred Valley and eventually the train to the small town of Aquas Calientes at the bottom of Machu Picchu. Traveling together, father and son added so much to your adventure, and your "Once in a Lifetime" experience. Thank you for sharing this with us. There is so much to compliment you on, I could go on and on. Bravo and well done!
@phục êwê For reals..? I know it's not something to joke about but if you're sure perhaps you can let Carlitos know, he has reached out last year and must wonder what's happening. Perhaps he can reach his son... So sad. X
I just finished watching your video. I was hooked from the beginning. You are an excellent storyteller. I loved the pace and narrative of your experience. I was born in Peru and have been in Machu Picchu twice but never planned to take the Inca trail, much less climb the Huayna Picchu. But through your video I felt as if I was doing it with you. So glad you were able to go in this adventure with your son. It is evident the love you have for him. I got misty eyed at the end due to the warm and loving words you said about him. Hope you get to go on more adventures with your son. God bless.
Incredible video of an unforgettable trip, made even more special because it was a father-son adventure of a lifetime. I really enjoyed the narration, Jon, and felt like I was as "there" as I could be. Elliott is a machine on those trails! He was practically running down the final mountain. Thank you for sharing your destination bliss!
Very nice made adventure video. I liked the absence of disturbing background music. Also the well informed comments. I also liked the use of still pictures that were zoomed in and out instead of shaky videos. So thanks very much.
Wow, what an amazing video this is to watch, i had the pleasure of doing the Inca trail with my son in Sept 2011 and it was one one the most memorable experiences of my life.. at the age of 51 my son doubted i had it in me to complete the trek, after 14 years in the Army and 13 yrs with the Marines.. i was ready for this. The Video is your amazing story with your son, your journey and the bonding with your son was lovely to see.. THANK YOU for posting.
Flew to Macchu Piccu from Cuzco in a Peruvian Hu1h helicopter in 1972. We gave them a film and still photos courtesy of Dept. Army Special Photo Office Panama. Great trip. Back then, their were no permits required to visit. Peru was still evaluating what to do with this wonderful opportunity. We spent three hours on the ground.
Hi Jon and Elliot, I was totally amazed and delighted to watch your video of your hike to Machu Picchu. I was up there some years back with my American Professor when we did a tour of South America but we did nothing like yours. We only went straight up like most tourists. Yes, the views are out of this world and till today, I can never forget my journey up to the ruins. As a Singaporean from the Far East, that was also a trip of a life-time.......FANTASTIC narration of what you saw which I did not !
THANK YOU Jon and Elliot for this amazing travel video, which I just "stumble" upon it. I have been twice in MP, 2003 and 2013 and both times the weather was great. I was always wondering about the BIG hike from Cusco and can tell you after seeing this, that I would have never made it; not in 2003 or 2013. Train, Bus and a tour guide into this ancient city was my way and whenever I look at MP photos/videos now, I'm looking for the one tree standing in the middle of the lower meadow if it is still there.
A amazingly accurate account and very well produced. I just relived the trip I did with my wife and 7 Canadian ladies (and Carlos). Thank you “Southern cross Maples”
I, of course, saw Machu Picchu many times on travelogues. So was mesmerized at what I saw on this video. My question at the start, was WHO, WHAT, WHY WHERE and WHEN! All those intricate, placings of stone, just like the pyramids in Egypt. I wasn't prepared for the video of the villagers who built their homes over reeds; everything, really! But then, a people who can build something like Machu Picchu, could also build something like this village. Thank you for this. Father and Son were, and are inspiring!
Thank you for taking me on your journey. I have always wanted to hike that trail but do not have the health to do it. I have a better view of that world now. Excellent!
Thank you vry mch for sharing the incredible journey to one of the most amazing Inca citadle...mesmerisngly beautiful shots and unbelieveable frnship of you and your son added more inspiration, may you have longer adventurous life.

What a wonderful experience! Thank you so much. Refreshed my memory as I remembered my trip to Machupicchu and Waynapicchu and then other exciting places in Peru. What a country!
Back in 09, I spent a week and a half in Cusco and Pisac. Took the Hiram Bingham train to Macau Pichu. Absolutely an amazing experience. So so much want to go back and do this hike!
This is a beautiful video. I will never be able to do this hike due to physical disability, so to be able to see the Inca trail and all the sites and sights along the way is wonderful. Thank you!
What a magnificent hike! What a joy to make that connection with his son. All parents should do the same at least once. I spent a few weeks on a caravan with my son last year. We went surfing Northern New South Wales and had a blast. Thank you for the memories and your beautiful vid.

fact that it is an adventure shared by a father with his son.

I was with them in spirit:🙏
WOW what a trip...Amen
Oh yeah... Ill watch a few minutes I said to myself... I was glued till the end! Awesome. Well done Jon.
Watched a few minutes, then ended up propping my phone up next to the bath and watching the rest. The best travel story I've seen in years. Thanks for sharing Jon
What a beautiful story! I love that you have these amazing memories with your son now ❤️❤️❤️
Great trip and an a wonderful story. As a Peruvian, I have to thank you twice for visiting my country and for one of the nicest and complete Machu Picchu videos. It is clear that every word has been chosen very carefuly. Best regards.
On the Inca trail to Machu Picchu??😄😄
VA Mendoza...your appreciation was felt by me as a reader of the comments under this video. IT definitely was a beautiful video and appreciation of a father toward his son. Makes 'me' feel to want to do this Trail in appreciation of the country itself. Thank you.
A great experiece , thank to talk with pasión about my country.
Well Put ! 2019 now! WORLD PEACE & POLE SHIFT SOON? SMILE EACH AND EVERY DAY? LOVE AND { UNDERSTANDING!!!! } A MUST????
@Paul Dawson if some day you decide to visit to Perú, you will be welcome
Beautiful story. I hiked the trail in 1980. No porters - just me. I had the trail all to myself.
Thank you for taking me along to your trip! It was awesome!
Thanks for coming to my country, this video is very illustrative for other tourists who wants to visit Machu Picchu, specially the Inca Trail !!! I hope you had have a great trip!!!
Thank you for taking me a few precious minutes, all from a Germany in Shutdown, up to a flying Machu picchu.
Watch this 2 times and am thankful that at 82 I could go too. God bless y’all
What a fantastic journey. Thank you for documenting and sharing! 💩🛁
Wow... amazing! As a mother, I just love the way you talk about your child. Thank you =)
We were there in 1970 and again in '75....no crowds then, and no "handrails" on the Huayna Picchu trail!

God Bless you and keep you safe. X
UA-cam sent me here, and I’m glad it did! 🤗
You sure have the gift for storytelling, I could imagine myself there clearly. Thanks to you and your son, this trek made it to my ongoing bucket list! 👌🤗😍🏔 🦙 🇵🇪 🧳 🗺
This is a truly fantastic video. Great quality! I'm disabled and will probably never manage such a trip, so I really appreciate your first hand view, I feel like I'm climbing with you!
i doubt i'll ever get there (unless i win the lottery) but yes i almost feel like i was there, really good video.
I agree with you!! I am disabled also (cancer, on a list for a double lung transplant, hearing aids) and I will never be able to go anywhere but I, too, felt like I was almost on this trip! It was wonderful!!
Exactly!
Spellbinding video! Well written, well-narrated, well-videoed! Thank you!
Beautiful just beautiful everything Peru, you, your son, and the story. Thank you for that.
Very nice, and your thoughts about your son were heart warming. I walked the trail around 40 years ago and there were no toilets, no camp sites, nothing. It started with a ride across a chasm in a little cable car.
I loved your video and your story. I am Peruvian, and enjoyed very much your narration, so wonderful!! thanks for sharing it.
Thank you
- kendall
Wonderful trip, story and father and son sharing opportunity to remember forever!
Cruel !!
@phục êwê For reals..? I know it's not something to joke about but if you're sure perhaps you can let Carlitos know, he has reached out last year and must wonder what's happening. Perhaps he can reach his son... So sad. X
Wow! That was beautiful! The end part where you talked about your son made me teary! Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience.
Great video! Thank you for sharing and narrating the entire trip! I'm thankful for the insight!
God bless.
You are my hero. You did that at 60😳. Wow hats off to you and your son. Loved loved this video.
Wow! What an amazing adventure and so FULL of LOVE. Thank you for sharing.
How wonderful. My knees won’t permit such a climb, but I felt I was with you every step of the way….thank you!!
That was lovely!! Thank you for sharing your adventure! This is a place on my bucket list!
Great journey and story. As a dad who likes Kipling, I was captivated by the story of you and your son sharing a great hike.
I was always wondering about
the BIG hike from Cusco and can tell you after seeing this, that I would have never made it; not in 2003 or 2013.
Awesome John. Its great to see you had an Amaizing trip with your son. You did awesome narrating your video. Bless you & your family.
This was absolutely fantastic thank you so much for sharing your wonderful experience together!
THANK YOU!!! This is one of the best videos on all of youtube! I am on dialysis so I cannot make a trip like this but you and your son did a fantastic job of taking
me there. Just a great video and narration!

Thank you for letting me enjoy your amazing adventure ❤️
Back in 09, I spent a week and a half in Cusco and Pisac. Took the Hiram Bingham train to Macau Pichu. Absolutely an amazing experience. So so much want to go back and do this hike!
Wonderful, you did it together !!! Congrats...
One of the best record videos I have ever watched in my life. Thank so much
Amazing adventure. I love your video, is espectacular!!!! Nice 👍. Thank you to share it.
This is a beautiful video. I will never be able to do this hike due to physical disability, so to be able to see the Inca trail and all the sites and sights along the way is wonderful. Thank you!
Just wanted to say thank you for sharing such a positive and beautiful experience!
What a magnificent hike! What a joy to make that connection with his son. All parents should do the same at least once. I spent a few weeks on a caravan with my son last year. We went surfing Northern New South Wales and had a blast. Thank you for the memories and your beautiful vid.
