Before you comment --- please note that everyone in this video stays and lives in Chennai, and almost half of them were born and brought up in the city itself (yes - there are 100% native Tamils too). In the start of the video, they are just talking about what Google might suggest, and not expressing their personal opinion (or complaining). Do watch the video till the end and you will hear many nice things about the city! Thanks.

As a Korean having lived for five years in Chennai, and having stayed in other metros in India, I can say Chennai is the most developed of all in many respects. The infrastructure is excellent throughout, that's one of the reasons the traffic is so smooth. And those people in the video who mistake there are less vehicles. No, in fact Chennai has the highest per capita car and two wheeler ownership in India (believe me, I work with a large Korean car company). The health care is excellent. The doctors and professionals really know and do their job well. People are so helpful and yes the city is cleaner and less polluted compared to all other Indian cities I have been to. People still have the community spirit and are conservative.
Conservative-ness is NOT a bad thing. You guys have to understand the most number of foreigners visit Tamilnadu and Chennai not because it has the best tourism spots but because the hertitage and culture of India are preserved much better in that state. Becoming westernized, wearing torn jeans, and super short dress, all the time partying is not progress in my opinion! Am happy you can see a school, a park, a clinic, an art center in Chennai in every street rather than a pub, a club, and some party place! And coming from a relatively cold country, I find all of India hot. I do not find any difference between Chennai and New Delhi - in fact summers in New Delhi are hellish and winters are bad too. Mumbai and Kolkata are no different weather than Chennai! Only Bangalore can boast a pleasant climate when comparing to Chennai.

Cool video! I'm from Europe and I lived in Chennai. Before coming I heard and read about the stereotypes. My experience with Chennai has been great. The people are super friendly and open. There's a lot of variety in South Indian cuisine too. I feel people are maybe more traditional but is that a bad thing? I actually liked to see people sticking to their traditions, and I learned a lot from it. And yes, maybe there are less bars and such but that alone doesn't mean Chennai is boring. There's so much going on, while at the same time it feels small and like a community sometimes. I always felt great coming back to Chennai and I miss it a lot. I haven't had any language problems.. English worked quite well (yes I did a lot of local things too). Learned some tamil, even better, people really appreciated that. Just some of my experience as a 'westerner' in Chennai. ரொம்ப நன்றி

South India is just one part of a country. There is no need for everything and everyone to be like southies. It's big country. Every place and culture has its own importance. Enjoy the diversity and first thing south indians need to learn " from rest of India" is acceptance and keep your arrogance aside. There is lot this country had gone through. So please stop that attitude of " We are better than you in every aspect."

Lmfao, bruh, the ONLY other place that has a better nightlife than Chennai in the entire country, is obviously Goa. The Chennai, from the early 2000's is NOT the Chennai from the 70's. Even Bengaluru's nightlife is playing catchup to Chennai's.
You were probably pubcrawling somewhere in ECR or Adyar, on a saturday night and you obviously wouldn't find any because of reservations and passes being sold out. Not to mention, the house party culture is as predominant as Goa's.

We have the best cities like Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Vizag etc...if every city is the same what's the speciality?? Almost 60% of India's software & information, mechanical, space technology revolves around Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai. The head offices of Apple, Microsoft, Amazon are not planted Soo easily, we made our politicians bend their knees and had created jobs for us and external talents. We don't give up easily, remember AP bifurcation and jallikattu in Tamil Nadu? Let me also remind you.. Bollywood?? Our contribution to women power in Hindi film industry is huge... Vyjayanthi maala, waheeda rehman, Rekha, Sridevi, Jayaprada, Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone, Asin and the list goes on.,are from South. Yes, idli is our favorite food. Soo?? Just bcos you don't eat it that doesn't mean that people don't eat it and also shameful that people in the video who look civilized comment on eating habits. We are from South and the least we deserve is respect and courtesy from North. I'm not an anti-northindian but can't resist derogatory statements on South. People it's just your misconception that we at South aren't friendly. Please visit us and judge us, negative experiences can be anywhere it all happens in your mind. Yes ... we don’t speak Hindi.... perhaps we have the oldest and prestigious language in the world why should we speak Hindi just to convince North Indians?
Intelligent people don’t choose raw fruit where they already have a ripen fruit..our Tamil language is a ripen fruit ... so if you guys wants to feel comfortable learn our Tamil just to make it simple or communicate with us in English...stop forcing us to speak Hindi bcz this language which doesn’t even have a proper history...
Also before preaching as “ Hindi is a national language “... plz do read the Indian constitution where Hindi mentioned as national language!!!
We don’t hate Hindi or north India... we hate only forcing us to learn Hindi where as 99% of Tamil people has no interest on Hindi...
Also these people are coming and spoiling our culture too...also making lot of crimes ...

You can certainly love Tamil, us North Indians do too. But loving Tamil doesn't give you the authority to degrade Hindi. I don't know if you want to accept it or not, but Hindi IS THE CONNECTING LANGUAGE OF INDIA, which is also an INDIAN language, unlike english. Spoken by most of the population and understood by every state except TN.
As for criminals, one can see news in newspapers where crimes are committed by South Indians, especially TN and AP people, too. What is want to say is, crime has no region. It can happen anywhere by anyone.

It’s individuals choice to speak or not to speak Hindi...you choose Hindi as connecting language so as we choose English.
Also plz do little research when Hindi is been erupted.. this is the youngest language among other in India...At least English is spoken for many centuries...
And one more thing kindly refer crime senses (robbery and rape) of Tamilnadu ,then speak... as per record these mass robberies and rape conducted by North Indian people who live in Tamil Nadu...and they are very brutal too...

@@sanjeevan1818 When you say you have 'no interest in Hindi', you create a divide. You can safely say you don't have to learn Hindi, that's perfectly fine. But saying you have no interest, you are insinuating others to say they don't have interest in Tamil.
Also, the oldest known language is Proto-Indo-European, which gave rise to modern day Sanskrit and Tamil. Even Sanskrit is not proved to be younger than Tamil. I consider both very beautiful and respected languages but saying subjective words like 'oldest' and 'prestigious' to either one of them is unwarranted. Both are beautiful and both are very old.

    • @sanjeevan1818
      @sanjeevan1818 6 років тому +18

@anurag23611 : it’s not us who divide... all the North Indians who stay in Tamilnadu blame us for not speaking Hindi.. when they want to feel comfortable let them learn ‘Tamil ‘ or communicate in English.. or we don’t blame you people for not speaking ‘ Tamil ‘....
Similarly Tamil people when they stay in north India speak only Hindi and never complain about it....
Then why North Indians alone blaming Tamil people for not speaking Hindi in our mother land ? ???
Do you have any answer for that ?
And of course our language is the oldest and prestigious, many linguistic researchers agreed it...then why not we have that pride about our language?
Though it’s oldest we never force anyone to learn and speak Tamil....that’s the same I repeat and stop imposing us to speak Hindi...bcz 99.9% of the North Indians muttering about us not speaking Hindi...now you tell me who divides ?

@@sanjeevan1818 I am against any type of imposition, but try to understand what I'm about to say.
When you know Hindi, you can converse or atleast make yourself understood in 99% of India. When you know Tamil, which one should being the beautiful language it is, you can only converse in TN. That is why, Hindi speakers have a hard time learning Tamil. Those who do, learn it out of interest, not as a necessity.
Similarly, when a TN man goes to North, he only has 3 choices, converse in Hindi, in English, or have a Hindi speaking friend (to make himself understand Non english speakers). So, they learn Hindi out of necessity, not interest.
It's good to be multilingual. And I have much interest in Tamil, but about the discrimination part, my friend studied in SRM Chennai, and he got beaten up several times by locals JUST BECAUSE HE WAS FROM HINDI BELT, and didn't knew Tamil. Everyday he got made fun off too. He left the college in 2nd yr due to social stress and came back to his home state. So, you can see, discrimination is pretty evident in TN too. Even I have traveled to TN many times and auto rickshaw drivers and taxi drivers give a rude look if asked something in Hindi.
Now you tell me, is this necessary? Is this animosity and hatred needed?

I'm not saying they should speak or learn hindi but when you understand something then acknowledge it rather than take it as demean to yourself. Hindi is not a national language nor it must be spoken by everyone but we don't have any language which is widely understandable by everyone or most of people in the country? Also it's a fact that north always got so much attention for all bad or good reasons and have been centre attraction, this need to be changed. About language, there is no evidence which proves tamil is older than Sanskrit, it's just verbal and still people are debating for a credit? why is it even important? as long as it's helping me to communicate, i don't care which is older or younger? and i know a lot about south India (or India as a whole for that matter) than any south indian so i wouldn't need those wiki checks

Im from Chennai...and I have lived in many cities across the world...my perspective of progress and development is not based on how many night hangouts and bars/clubs/pubs around...I would proudly say there is a school/clinic/hospital/pharmacy/parks/community centres for every 1km or may be less than 1km...which i consider as progress, safety, development....being conservative is not a bad thing...thats also a way of life, same like Japanese...they are number one when comes to technology n innovations....chennai is clean and safe...does it really matter whether it bores u or not...

Chennai is a very decent city but not so fashionable from dressing sense or the infrastructure there. Of course from the Northeast India it is a very different place but once u start knowing that basic Tamil language things tend to get a lot easier. Of course i used to love those idli vadas😀.

Fashion is subjective. What is fashionable for you may not be fashionable for Chennai. Chennai takes pride in traditional clothes.

Many reviews say less traffic, the reason is its geographic nature. The city keeps expanding and no link bridge or road required to connect one part of the city with other...

Indian people have an tendency of forming narrow opinion about places, things and other people. We have equally stereotyped Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahamadabad, Delhi, Mumbai etc etc!

Im a Tamilian ,born and living in Hyderabad. Most of my relatives are in Chennai and I do visit it atleast once a year. Every city has its positives and negatives and no city is perfect.Chennai too.
Pros :1. Good Infrastructure ,transport facilities -Major Roads in the city are better compared to other cities and transport is relatively good and cheap compared to other cities(heard the metro is expensive though).Traffic is lot less compared to Blore ,Mumbai, even Hyderabad. 2.Less Pollution and peaceful (especially the suburbs) 3.Good schools and hospitals (even staff in Govt hospitals are very helpful) 4.Cheap & decent Food (variety can be found if you explore) 5.Safety for Women and gender equality in all kinds of workplaces 6.Beaches & Weekend Getaways ! This is one thing i dearly miss in Hyderabad and most love in Chennai (although the crowds at Marina and bessie can be tooo much on holidays, you can go to beaches on ECR,Mahabalipuram which are secluded and offer peace). 7.Lots of traditional cultural events happening and lots of places of worship (if you are into it)
Cons : 1. Hot & Humid weather year round (you get used it though if u stay more than a month) 2.Lack of nightlife (pubs, bars & restaurants etc) if you are used to the same in other cities like Hyderabad,Mumbai 3.Municipal Drinking water is not upto mark ,even ground water in some places is colored and not good.4.Mosquitoes (every Indian city has this problem, but i found Mosquitoes prefer hot and humid places like Chennai and have a much bigger bite here :).5.Language - Can be a problem if you dont understand Tamil or English, but most people are welcoming and will help you out.I think past 2 decades there has been a massive improvement though in terms of signage in English on every street ,roads ,transportation, shops, before that (like 20 years ago) everything used to be only in Tamil and I think the stereotype of language was more pronounced.

As a Chennaite living in the States I can vouch for one thing. People are very honest. In Jan of this year 2024, dropped my wallet in front of a snack/savory shop. After going back home realized wallet missing. Had the intuition that someone would have found it on the street and would have handed it to the shop owner.. Had 4000 indian rupees and a bunch of credit cards. Needless to say the the shop owner returned everything intact and gave the number of the guy who found my wallet.
Of course I thanked that guy! This is the same throughout the State. People are very kind and embrace and accept people of other denominations!!

Yes it is and it should remain so. in the last 60 or 70 years there was not a single incident of curfew in this city ;so peaceful it is; let it remain conservative. Except perennial water problem, it is an excellent city.
