- India has the world's largest Tibetan exile community, whose members have lived as stateless refugees for decades. But in recent months, some Tibetans are opting for Indian nationality following a ruling that those born in India between 1950 and 1987 are Indian citizens. Amid murmurs that this could weaken the Tibetan cause, the Tibetan exiles say they cannot continue to live as stateless people. Anjana Pasricha has this report from New Delhi.

I am from India and I believe all Tibetans who want Indian citizenship should be given Indian citizenship without any restriction.
That is the whole point.
Becoming Indian by citizenship they will loose their fight for free Tibet.but I believe they should be given temporary citizenship will enables them to excess rights as Indian but still remain subject of Tibet identity. 🤔

India should make an exception for Tibetans to have dual citizenship, so that they can happily embrace Indian citizenship & grow & when Tibet get freedom they can move to their land. As the Tibetans will grow, move around the world, hold key positions, the more impact they will create. Govt should consider about it.

Yes, correct, our govt should find a way like that only. Govt should issue India Passport but some where it should mention as Tibet - asylum. So where ever they go around the world, they can take their Identity as Tibetan with Indian Passport.

The older generation dont want citizenship because they still hope for Tibet liberation but the younger generation want more opportunities which a citizen gets so it's really hard to decide and also not to hurt their elders.

India is partially responsible for Tibet problem. It summarizes to, that our then idealistic Prime Minister Nehru who had opportunity to actually make India the strongest country in the region cuz we had about 25 lakh( 2.5 million) soldiers who came back from 2nd world war. Sufficient weapon industry from what UK left behind. But he did nothing and most soldiers went in farming. All industry collapsed (now our weapon industry is a complete disaster). He was of the notion that we don't even need army .
CIA started working in Tibet to stop china ,all India needed was to provide support. So he could have easily protected Tibet but instead handed it over to china on a plate. Even sent rice for PLA on Mao insistence . Even refused permanent seat in UNSC for china . And what we got for all this, 1962 war with china (we lost badly, most importantly loss of human life) during which he was too busy in his own politics. Also he could have saved India from Kashmir issue, would have prevented Baluchistan to be part of Pakistan, could have put Pakistan in its right place (all these events were happening during his regime).
Well now it's all in past and cannot be changed. Sure we may be proud of our country and love it . And from time to time compare ourselves with china and ridicule china but truth is we stand nowhere close to china in terms of military strength, infrastructure or global influence .It breaks my heart when I realize we could have been in same ranks as of china and South Korea (in terms of infrastructure and living standard) as they are now, but it will take may be another 50 years if everything goes well. Reason for all these misfortune is a family (started from Nehru) and its bootlicker party Congress, who for last 70 years have left no stone unturned for making India a shit hole country as it is now.

I understand their dilemma. But it's perfectly fine to be practical as well. India treats them as their own. They have made our land rich with their culture. They are as much Indian as we are. They need not think that by formally getting Indian citizenship, they are abandoning their Tibetan identity. You can be Indian and Tibetan at the same time.

Indian Citizenship will not hinder your aspirations for a free Tibet in any way. You also have good educational opportunities in India.
