The pace at which AYA churns these things out actually worries me a little. I'm curious to learn about the kind of support they are providing for the older models since this is also an important aspect when considering a purchase of this size, but unfortunately reviewers would rather talk about specs and fps.
You think they're getting support outside of the new software revisions? A key selling point of the Steam Deck is the fact you can easily source replacement parts and that Valve are good about warranties.
George Dong as someone who has the Aya Neo 2021 Pro and Air Pro they have been great about both handhelds. I recently had an issue with the screen on the 2021 pro and they sent me a replacement at no charge. So so far they have been great.
I think seeing an EGPU that is a sensible choice for the average user (think an RTX 3060 or RX6600 as opposed to high-end GPUs) would be a really good thing to see. I'd also love to see how SteamOS performs on this thing!
I rather see a budget card like a 1050ti. I'm hoping valve makes a version of the dock for steam deck 2 with an egpu inside of the dock based on rDNA 3 that way cost wouldn't be that high but still give us great docked performance.
@@Spencerwalker21 i think their integrated gpu is equal to a 1050 so using a gpu like the 1050ti is a bit weird. something like a 3060 sounds better i think
@@trashman8080 Based on the performance numbers in fh5, at max tdp it's quite a bit faster than the 1050 ti and the 1050, and that's with less memory bandwidth too, if AMD is able to get next gen desktop apus to a 128 bit bus at 100gbps or more, they're going to dominate the market for 500 dollar builds with no gpu.
The last time I was excited for a handheld was the psp with its full screen display. I'm getting this. Really reminds me of the psp. Really looking forward to your emulation video.
@@dylanherron3963 it's actually good to have that mindset. Im glad people do. We shouldn't worship one brand. We should push for innovative features and companies fighting to retain its customers. @@gman8796 Brand loyalty and product innovation isn't what I'm talking about. More about needless consumerism and E-waste. Yes, Spending 1400 vs 700 is probably going to get you a better product. But why
@@dylanherron3963 well environmental factors is a whole different topic. That's yeah out of this realm lol consumers want what they want. But the only part a gamer is focused on, is it's performance. @@dylanherron3963 FOMO, fear of missing out. My brother is a teacher and gets sassed by students AND coworkers for having an 'old android phone' it's like ...3 years old, does everything he wants/needs and probably does more than they need too. But they all get the latest iphones, every single one of them, treat them like crap, then on to the next one. When the RTX30 series came out, my friends were asking me if I was going to get the 3080 or 90. I got the 2070 years ago and it's running everything I play at fine settings. There's no reason to upgrade. I only wound up upgrading from my GTX970 because there was a lot of weird stuff going on with tarrifs and I was good to go for it since covid hit after. The RTX/NVENC stuff has been great for streaming I'm with you, I don't get this replacing a device after a year thing. My laptop is probably 5 years old, does what I need it to and got zero interest in replacing it unless it has a severe failure. I was using my PSP till the screen failed like ..4 years ago.
@n n Well my point is that something that has been announced is usually much closer than something that hasn't. Obviously there are some exceptions. Doesn't matter what's here or not as that's not what I was talking about.
Love to see a budget GPU for the egpu. What I'm hoping valve does for steam deck 2 is build a dock with an egpu based on rDNA 3 or 4 directly into the dock that way the cost of it wouldn't be super high like 199$.
For EGPU's I would really like to see a RTX 3060 or 3070 as those are likely some of the most mainstream cards among price conscious gamers. Don't hesitate to throw in an AMD equivalent of those. I am just not as familiar with their naming scheme.
I am seriously contemplating getting one of these handheld gaming devices, but my primary purpose would be for emulation with FRINGE pc gaming since I have a Series X and a PS5. The AYANEO 2 is just such a gorgeous device that it is captivating. I really wonder how it compares to the AOKZOE A1, the Ayn Loki Max, the Onexplayer Mini pro, and the steam deck. Price is important to me, but if its easy to emulate games on, the controller setup feels comfortable as well as the size of the device, the battery life is decent, and last but certainly not least the screen and overall design is attractive then that will be the device I will get.
If price is important, the Deck should be the main thing you look at (get the $399 64gb model and spend the $125 on a 1tb 2230 M.2 for it, profit). EmuDeck for emulation is easy to setup... The ONLY flaw is it's huge.
I'm lacking half of my right thumb, and I find that the thumbstick on the Steam Deck is just a little too out of reach for me (still works great but I get discomforts after awhile). This looks like it would be more comfortable for my needs. Can't wait to see what this can do with an EGPU!
This thing is probably going to be way over $1200+. No denying how brilliant it is, but the price point is way out most people's budget and at those prices most people would rather have a high end gaming PC. But it gives a good insight into how good future steam decks can be. If valve used the same specs as this the could do way more with it and get a lot better performance out of it.
You're not wrong, I get excited with this type of videos, then I go look for them to check prices, and always end up dissapointed at how expensive they are.
Actually I have just checked the prices now and you can get it for $749 with the early bird price. I am actually quite surprised that it was that low. Maybe they will become competitive after all 🤷🏻♂️
Exactly 💯 what I'm hoping for is that valve makes a dock with a egpu based on rDNA 3 inside of it. That way we have great docked performance for like 150-199$ and if you don't want the egpu you can buy there standard dock for 89$
Born 1980, I tend to only back to Gen 3-6. My Z Flip 3 covers those generations well. Since getting my Switch Lite exactly a month ago, I realized it's NOT for me. Haven't been a Nintendo fan since Super NES. Don't like their overrated, expensive walled garden ecosystem the way Apple has. I'm really not into their first-party franchises. BOTW bored me to tears. I'll still keep my Switch Lite since I got it for only $90 in flawless "like new" condition. It's my first Nintendo product I bought in 15 years. The last was DS Lite in 2007 after owning a launch day Wii. The reason why I prefer Sony is they have the best third-party support + their own exclusive franchises catered to adults. No Tekken, Metal Gear Solid, or Uncharted on the Switch. Same kiddie nonsense since the Nintendo 64. I get flashbacks of owning a GameCube and Wii with my Switch. Excited that first couple weeks. Enjoy the hardware gimmicks. Then they start collecting dust. But I eventually did start loving GameCube via emulation. Even if a Switch 2 comes out with the power of a PS4, I would rather support Valve that isn't so greedy and frugal like Nintendo. And Nintendo burned a lot of bridges with third-party since the N64 days. Super NES was the last time they had Square fully on their side. My next gaming device will be a more refined version of the Steam Deck. Hopefully, they can make a Deck Lite. I think I prefer Valve's ecosystem and more open philosophy than I do for Nintendo which already blew it with retro emulation. Listen, people can go ahead and keep buying Nintendo products until their dying breath. You do you. But Nintendo really hasn't been that great to me in 30 years. Their products and ecosystem is just not for me when iOS and Android exists to cater to the indie scene while Sony and PC gets all the triple-A titles. I think Valve is the way to go not just from price and performance but ecosystem. I'm ditching Nintendo for good. Nintendo will always remain in my heart as NES was my first console and do love SNES and GameCube. But no thanks to Switch 2. The air had much smaller margins the2 probably does aswell compared to the next and 2021 atleast. But 70m off IGG alone is pretty huge considering they probably got a huge number of sales after the initial campaign. Especially for the air.
Wanna see a steam deck comparison vid. I love the format of the steam deck just wish it came with this 6800u 😭 but it can handle majority of the things I want so I can deal with it until then.
Steam Deck is good for people who don't care about playing AAA games on release. I'm knee deep in indies and my backlog, so I can easily wait till Steam Deck 2 which will probably outperform the 6800u or include something similar for a third of the cost. Playing the latest SONY cinematic over the shoulder walk and talk simulator with crafting portably is not high on my list of priorities.
@@k.constantine Exactly. I'm also digging the indie scene because not only are the games still fun in the short and long term, but they also use up less storage and require less power to run. After tweaking performance settings on most games, my deck is lasting 3-4 hours minimum.
While I’m perfectly happy with my Steam Deck, I LOVE what Aya is doing with their handhelds. This is a gorgeous device and if money were no object, I’d jump on this in a heartbeat. In future videos, I’d love to see a direct comparison on PS3 emulation versus the Steam Deck. Would love to see just how much more performant this might be versus the Deck, even if you have to ratchet up the power beyond what the Deck does.
I'm perfectly happy as well. For the price, it can't be beat. I'm sure steam deck 2 in a couple years will address most of what people are criticizing about. It'll be 1080p, oled, probably 90 hz, dual or triple usb4, minimal bezels, etc. Now that valve knows its steam supporters will back them, I'm sure they'll go all out on the next version.
@@charlestannehill7537 I don't want OLED, I don't want that limited screen life, no matter how easily repairable. At Deck price points, I doubt repair will make more sense, I hope I'm wrong. As long as a good color gamut 1080p 120Hz IPS, is all I could ask for.
@@bipbop3121 what are you referring to in limited life span? I still have my Samsung epic 4g and the amoled screen works perfectly til this day. 120hz would be fantastic if can be done for reasonable cost. I just love my inky blacks. IPS glow, light bleed and poor contrast ratios to amoled are my turn offs with IPS. Luckily the deck makes up for it in ppi and perfect auto-brightness (plus the decky loader & vibrant deck plug in).
In most games it seems like you would need to run this at over 15W say around 19W to really have a sizable lead over the Steam Deck in most games. Battery life is more then likely not great either due to the higher resolution screen and the more powerful CPU and GPU combo. Steam Deck has a 40Wh battery and on most none AAA games or less demanding games you can get 3 to 4 hours. Thought on more demanding games like Control at 60fps you're realistically looking at around a little over an hour. With that being said the AYANEO 2 has a larger 50Wh battery but the 10WH increase is more then likely negligible as you are dealing with a significant power draw increase. It would be interesting to see a detailed battery test on this device to see how well it does but from what I gather it wouldn't do very well but that's just an educated guess from me.
Yeah that’s true the GPU will be pulling the most wattage from the battery on both the steam deck and the Ayaneo as most games are GPU bound anyway. I personally don’t mind a 720p screen on some of these devices as it pairs well with the hardware on tap as both these devices, the Steam Deck and the AYANEO aren’t really powerful enough to go much beyond that. Of course other people may not agree with me as other may prefer a higher res screen but it’s all subjective.
I'd love to see a more common GPU connected. RX 580, Nvidia 10/20 series. It's nice seeing what halo products can do, but whacking a 4090 on most of the devices covered on this channel seems like a waste of data, even if it is fun.
steamdeck 1.65 lbs aya neo 2 1.49 lbs switch(joy-con attached) 0.88 lbs I've sold Steam Deck just after two days of use due to its weight. I would wait for next gen handhelds as heavy as Switch and as performant as Steam Deck.

Everyone says the Steam Deck battery life sucks, but on most of the games I'm playing I'm getting anywhere from 4-5 hours on average and some up to 9 hours (Visual Novels).
This may be the one to buy for a while.. $200 more than steam deck seems worth it! Not sure anyone else can top it for a year it's impressive how small for factor they got!
I really like the larger size of the steamdeck, and wish this was just as big, would love a better cooling solution allowing for a lower fan speed, less power being used to make fan noise, and a larger battery fitting in the extra space would be amazing, imagine a 70 or even 99wh battery
@@Sams-li8tj I like the form factor, and i honestly think the steamdeck is a bit small for my hands, but i do find the GPU just a bit lacking and for desktop use the CPU is quite lacking, the (up to) doubling of performance of the 6800u GPU means that i could dock it and play 1080p mid-high mix and some of my older games at 4K(the steamdeck is good enough to run many of my games at 1400p60 low but doesnt have enough RAM), but to do this it would require 45w+ cooling, which is more easily achived with a larger chassis. However having those extra CPU and GPU cores means that at the same 15w you're able to clock lower, and get the same or better performance assuming your task can take advantage of parallelization. With a larger form factor you not only get better ergonomics for larger/taller people, maybe call it the Aya Neo XL, but you also get room for a bigger screen(not really needed) a larger battery, better cooling for both more performance and better system efficiency as a larger cooler means lower fan noise, and lower fan noise means less energy being spent on making sound, and more spent on moving air over the fins(until the air is moving so slowly that it is no longer turbulent flow)
I would like to see an external GPU that is not so over the top to be wasteful. Even maybe several mid range GPU's if possible, so that people can figure out what is sensible to get.
You can use M.2 PCIE 4 external GPU connector with Dell 300W external power supply and you might be able to do up to RTX 3080 with this setup, the bandwidth alot higher than Thunderbolt or USB 4 + cheaper
@@cavegoblin101 the Idea is, you won't carry your GPU around, it will he hooked to a screen, which means you don't need something that's elegant or easily movable
The fact that you can get 85% the performance of the Series S in a handheld form factor is absolutely nuts. That should also give it good longevity. I still went with the Deck though. The Ayaneos are very expensive, and I kind of wonder about support in the long run. I worry about long term game support with the Deck, but Valve at least has good customer service, and has more skin in the game.
I honestly expect the ayaneo2 to have longer driver support than the steamdeck does, since it is using an over the counter laptop apu instead of custom silicon. And since it’s in windows instead of Linux

AYA has been making some really beautiful devices. Unfortunately even if it's a bit more powerful I'm assuming it will be 2-3x the price of the Steam Deck. The price advantage and more comprehensive input options (mainly trackpads) make this a complete non-starter. On top of that the rate at which AYA pumps out new devices contrasted with Valve's stellar post-launch support of the Steam Deck make it an even tougher sell. Granted I have a Steam Deck already so I'm not going to be in the market for a similar device for a while but I see no reason to pick this over the Steam Deck if you are. Unless the smaller size is an absolute requirement then maybe it's worth the massive price difference.
@@muntdouken9841 Sure that makes sense. Seems fair to say any product might make a lot less sense in a region where it's unavailable and your only way to get one is scalpers. While the specs are great this thing is going to cost and arm and a leg in the UK. I would image around the £1000 mark easily going by previous Ayaneo devices. I will stick to my Steam Deck I think.
The cheapest new model is the 16GB RAM/512GB SSD Geek (that has a more sensible res - 1280x800 like the Deck) for £672, which isn't too bad compared to the £569 highest spec Steam Deck. However, the Deck is king of price/performance - having that £349 entry model (and it being easy to add internal and external storage) means it will dominate for quite some time.

you should make an optional $50 keyboard dock to 6800u handhelds, the APU is overkill for gaming only which the cheaper Steam Deck gets. with a keyboard dock, becomes more useful. at this size and power, you should also make a 2 in 1 laptop/tablet.
I think the R7 6800U is THE APU to buy on of these handhelds and not regreting it later, because it can deal with AAA games at 720p flawlessly. I'd like to hear more about battery life, and how good the actual buttons are on the handheld. Because how the inputs feel and work is one of the most important things on a controller/handheld. How the buttons are placed is really important too, for example: 1. Switch: The right stick gets in the way when you want to press the B button. 2. PsVita: The speakers are placed in a way, where you can easily cover them with your fingers when gaming. Resulting in bad sound.

Honestly I rather see a 720p OLED if you want higher resolution dock it imo.
@@Spencerwalker21 720p sucks not only is the resolution way to low so is the PPI as well.
A 1080p display is not the main culprit of battery life. It’s the GPU that is the most power hungry and second the CPU.

I totally disagreee with that
Why would you want a Steam Deck clone?
Just waiting for my onexplayer mini 6800u to be shipped, can’t wait!

I worry about long term game support with the Deck, but Valve at least has good customer service, and has more skin in the game.

The cheapest new model is the 16GB RAM/512GB SSD Geek (that has a more sensible res - 1280x800 like the Deck) for £672, which isn't too bad compared to the £569 highest spec Steam Deck. Someone already tested 4090 on Intel plarform, and it is not very good in eGPU mode.....Lost more than 1/3 of performance, and FPS spike is really bad.
Would love to see the eGPU video. I'm super happy with my steam deck but I'm loving the innovation thats been thrown in this space :)
yeah but what is the price tag on this lol, no info yet in indiegogo
Probably 3k or some shit. Lol.
Starts at $999
Born 1980, I tend to only back to Gen 3-6.
I prefer more versatility which the Steam Deck has + long-term customer support. Easy to fix them like a real PC. I hate closed platforms or ones from the Chinese knock-offs that won't support the hardware once your warranty is up.
In Valve We Trust.
Honestly I'm not seeing much better then steam deck
Damn, even on camera the screen looks good!
you should make an optional $50 keyboard dock to 6800u handhelds, the APU is overkill for gaming only which the cheaper Steam Deck gets. with a keyboard dock, becomes more useful.
at this size and power, you should also make a 2 in 1 laptop/tablet.
Ghost Song! Im too excited8
I got the deck! I'm happy to wait until next gen
I think the R7 6800U is THE APU to buy on of these handhelds and not regreting it later, because it can deal with AAA games at 720p flawlessly. Even better than the Steam Deck, cosidering it's more expensive though. The 6800U will make this get old better than any Ryzen 5000 APU too. But the problem is almlst the same as always, the cost, but if the amount isn't too problematic for someone, the AN2 is the way to go probably.
Can't wait for Indiegogo and pre order mine but black color with 1TB.
Amazing! To think you can dock this in at home and use it as a PC too.. ❤
I'd say two mid-range GPUs, and two high end GPUs for the eGPU test just to provide a comprehensive overview
daaaamn, these handheld PCs are becoming real beasts! Nintendo better watch out, cuz even with a 2nd gen switch it'll definitely be surpassed by these mini-pcs!
are you planning on testing steamOS on this unit?
I really really wish I had the money to buy this instead I'll drink some wine and pretend my phone while streaming is one of those game consoles
I love your background at 2:15. Can you tell me what it's called or where you got it from? I got my ayo neo 2 yesterday and I'm thrilled.
Already have steam deck and I'm very happy!
"vibe-eration" sounds like either a 70s B-side or the name of a group that tours elementary schools, and I ain't mad at it.
For me Greek with based config 800P,with 16GB+512GB is very good deal in igg. With power of 680M at 800P gaming i think it enough power on the go. Btw already backed on greek can't wait to get my hand on next year
My steam deck is sweating looking at this. That screen oh my god it’s insane
Damn that thing is a beautiful piece of tech
Electromagnetic joysticks and triggers !!! Shut The Front Door
That's definitely a future proof handheld
Having an auto adjusting tdp that targets a desired framerate would be amazing, so every single game with adjust to the perfect tdp.
With no announcement of steam decks for Australia. Looking forward to these
Great video.
yes yes yes. We are finally where I wanted to be for performance! But I wanted the RDNA 3 APUs, and AYAOS. Then the next version is a fast buy for me dawg.
I'd like to hear more about battery life, and how good the actual buttons are on the handheld.
Because how the inputs feel and work is one of the most important things on a controller/handheld.
How the buttons are placed is really important too, for example:
1. Switch: The right stick gets in the way when you want to press the B button.
2. PsVita: The speakers are placed in a way, where you can easily cover them with your fingers when gaming. Resulting in bad sound.
meh playing wired so could care less about battery, obviously if u play at low tdp like steam deck u'll get similar results
Hey. Love all your videos. You should review the Microsoft surface duo. Great little machine
Been watching your channelmfor a while, as a fellow tech/ handheld fan really appreciate your content. One question I have been meaning to ask, where do you het these amazing wallpapers?
