- Here is the third instalment of my Falcon series, the XM. If you haven’t already, please check out the XK and XL episodes. The XM had over 1,500 improvements and was when Ford Australia started to go its own way with Falcon versus the US model. The XM is my favourite early Falcon. Which one is yours? Please Like, Comment and Subscribe. I answer every comment.
That hardtop coupe is really good looking.
Yes, for sure and I like the Futura sedan and the Squire too.
I think that would be my choice but the wagons are iconic and would be a close second.
A retired bloke I met at a club owned a country Ford dealership in South Australia’s mid-north.
He hated the XM. He reckon the cockies bought them and he never made a buck out of servicing or parts. The cockies would home service all their machinery and the car was built so well he never saw one again. This when Ford and Holden built quality, value for money cars.
@@davidhayter8516 I would i imagine a fair bit of that went on then as they were relatively simp,e cars to service. 🤔👍
Thank you. Definitely an important model. There is a reason why you still see the odd one being driven on a weekend.
Thanks Michael. Yes, sadly not as many around as there used to be though.
The hardtop is gorgeous. The new taillights totally changed the look of the car when compared to the XL and XK.
Really enjoying your retrospective series, Mark.
Thanks very much. I do love the XM model. 👍
@@markbehr88 That's very understandable!
Here is the latest Falcon episode in a series. Check out XK and XL Falcon episodes. Which is your favourite?
XL for sure. As a Holden mad kid in school I clapped eyes on a white XL hardtop with an all red interior that a teacher owned. I couldn't believe what I was looking at. Mum and Dad's HD wagon suddenly looked like something from a Flintstone's episode. I have held a healthy respect for the blue oval ever since and believe that apart from the HQ Holden and some Statesman models that Ford has always produced a better car. Just for the record, Mum thought the Futura hardtop to be ugly and vulgar and Dad dismissed it saying that only a Holden was designed for Australia.
@@area51isreal71 Thanks very much. It would have been an XM or XP as the hardtop was released as an XM model. Good to know you appreciated it even as a Holden man
Xm was my favorite although I preferred Holdens,I was at a car show last week end and spotted a lovely red xm two,a lovely car 59 years old.
@@richardorchard3364 Hi Richard. The XM is my favourite too. I like them all but it is the XM for me too.
XP I think. I remember them from a TV cop show, was it Homicide?
I like that falcon pickup- wish I had one now! My mom had a 62 gray falcon when I was a kid for the second car. Good car for her- til one day the rear end burnt up😩 dad got rid of it. Good stuff! 👍🇺🇸❤️
Thanks Dave. Glad you liked it. Look out for an upcoming episode on the next model soon.👍👍
Xm two door for me . Nice clip thanks mark
Yes, they are a very nice looking car aren’t they?
@@markbehr88yes I know someone restoring one apparently only 2 1/2 thousand of them made 👍🇦🇺
@@jamieteal2107 and even less survive today.
Ahh first one with the raised protruding taillamps.
Front looks nice on this and has character.
Really learning about these early models through this series.
This is actually my favourite of the early Falcons. Love the front end. 👍
@@markbehr88 I can see why.
@@jamesfrench7299 Yes, it’s a good looking jigger. 😀👍
XP is my favourite of the first 4 Falcons
I like the XM, because of the front grille. 👍
Xp is my favourite 😍
Fair enough. Car of the Year! 👍
Thanks for the video
I find it interesting how Ford managed to redeem itself after the "failure" of the XK Falcon I wonder if there was additional campaign or maybe cheaper than Holden of the time to remain competitive... Or are you going to talk about it in next video...?
Pricing wise, I don’t think they undercut Ford. More matching the price or slightly dearer. The Valiants were generally dearer than both in those years. I think they sold the car mainly on style back then and they talk of the million pound ride - probably to reinforce they were getting past their suspension woes.
XP for me
A great improvement of the first generation Falcon. It drove very well. 👍
2:24 - McMahons Point? Everything likes weird without the Opera House.
Amazingly short production run for "Golden Quality", a very pretty car.
He's not around to advise me, but up to a certain model year, my father's Fprds had "HOOD" levers for the bonnet release.
I think so re McMahon’s point? Yes, I remember “Hood”. The XM was the best looking of the early Falcons imo. Please check out the other models in the series from XK 👍
The XM had the lowest production number...i always thought the XM Futura was the pretiest model...
Yes. Me too. Production window was shorter than the other models. Hence, lower numbers.
