You should pull the speedometer cable and lube it with graphite then get the right speedometer gear for your tire size/gear. It’ll stop the bounce and give you an accurate speed.
i had a 64 2 dr. with a 390 and it had a stock 4speed with stock bench seat. i could get 95-100mph in a 1/4 mile. thats when i was in high school n i only paid $100 for it. i pounded the hell out it. n it took it.
That thing would almost certainly accelerate faster if you eased into it not allowing wheelspin and allow whatever squat it wants to do before reaching wide open throttle. Also takes up the slack in the drivetrain and motor mounts less violently. Might have to try repeatedly to find just short of breaking the tires loose.
My 64 Galaxie with the correct white speedo gear that you need, not the red one you have, with the same height tires 235/70 and 3.89 , 9 inch, does 3000 at 60 mph. Speedo is off compared to gps by 3mph high. You must have 3.89 or 4.10 gears.
i think it has more in it. and your timing needs work less base and more advance in the weights. just as your done spining the tires i belive i herd some detonation bad. i drive q birds and 428s hard to the floor basically and i belive with a little tune you will have a neck snapper.
Sounds like the transmission shop should have at least put the "correct" speedo-cable gear in the C-6 and or a new cable, that or your dash-gauge internals are worn out(worm-gear) ?
Get a phone mount and concentrate on driving. Do what the car wags did, get a digital watch with the stopwatch function. Take the strap off. Set your course, put the watch between your teeth and when you choose go, bite the watch to start the clock, same when you cross the mark. There is your stopwatch.
Don't get me wrong. My first car was a 63 Ford Galaxy 500 2 door hardtop with a 390, white over red, so I recognize yours and I see the floor shift, but where's the clutch pedal on your 64? I used to be able to see the gas gauge move, but gas was only .26 a gallon then. Wish I still had it. Take my advice - DON'T EVER SELL YOURS! HAVE YOUR SON BURY YOU IN IT!
it has the brake pedal that came in stick shift models. that's what fooled you. this was probably stick when it came from the dealer and he changed to auto when he put the 428 under the hood.
I learned to drive in a ‘68 Galaxie with a 390 and owned a ‘69 Tbird with a 429 that I loved (ran a Holley 750) for many years. Ironically, the first sub 6 second car I owned is my ‘13 Honda Accord v6. Times have surely changed.
I would give you the 5 and probably then some, get some good rubber on there and work at it & I say low 4 second range. Those Ford transmissions are famous for sticking in third gear, usually the modulator valve, you won't go wrong with flushing the transmission and replacing the filter, clean always works better.

i had a 64 2 dr. with a 390 and it had a stock 4speed with stock bench seat. i could get 95-100mph in a 1/4 mile. thats when i was in high school n i only paid $100 for it. i pounded the hell out it. n it took it.
My best friend (rip Percy) had a ‘64 with a 352, I beat him to 60 mph with my 250 straight six Falcon, he was pissed lol
That’s what I’m thinking!!
i think it has more in it. and your timing needs work less base and more advance in the weights. just as your done spining the tires i belive i herd some detonation bad. i drive q birds and 428s hard to the floor basically and i belive with a little tune you will have a neck snapper.
Yeah, def had some knock…
You can get those recalibrate my 1965 dodge dart was 10 miles per hour off just had a slant six
Have an 87 Mustang with a 406. Ran 8.55 at 156 at Atco on pump gas. I'm in Phila, let's run for slips.
Replace the modulator valve and quit screwing around before you glaze up the clutch plates and need a transmission rebuild.
if it’s a four-speed, why not a 4 solid for a shifter knob ??
It’s not a 4 speed. Is a c6 automatic.
Sounds like the transmission shop should have at least put the "correct" speedo-cable gear in the C-6 and or a new cable, that or your dash-gauge internals are worn out(worm-gear) ?
LUBE THE SEED CABLE ?
Your second gear sounded like it was slipping
I appreciate it!!
It’s an automatic. The shifter is a Clayton machine works gated shifter.
were is the clutch?
never mind
it has the brake pedal that came in stick shift models. that's what fooled you. this was probably stick when it came from the dealer and he changed to auto when he put the 428 under the hood.
@@fransmith8992 ah that makes sense
I learned to drive in a ‘68 Galaxie with a 390 and owned a ‘69 Tbird with a 429 that I loved (ran a Holley 750) for many years. Ironically, the first sub 6 second car I owned is my ‘13 Honda Accord v6. Times have surely changed.
A Dragy costs about $100
but it’s not stock (?)
You say you got it that way, but that doesn’t mean I came from the factory that way. I don’t recall 428’s offered in ‘64
I talk about the details of the car in other videos. It’s a factory 352 car. They did not make a 428 in 1964.
UM, SO, AND-A , UM, THEY A UM, SO UM. IT'S UM, OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT, SO UM A AND SO.
Umm… and? And, I’ll bet the chewing gum drive you crazy too eh!!??
I would give you the 5 and probably then some, get some good rubber on there and work at it & I say low 4 second range.
Those Ford transmissions are famous for sticking in third gear, usually the modulator valve, you won't go wrong with flushing the transmission and replacing the filter, clean always works better.
Sweet ride ! ......👍
In 1977 my brother had the convertible version I wish he kept it
Convertibles are my second favorite!
Had 13 1967 galaxy 500 and 2 1967 Ltd's one with the 428 four barrel the rest where 390 cars but that one ltd was amazing fast had the speedo buried at 120 and still had half the gas pedal sold it because I was 18 and I thought I just might kill myself in this thing sure do wish I hadn't sold that car good looking ride you have good luck with it
Nice car, but who does a video in a dark garage without ever moving the car outside for a good overview of the entire car?
I thought you would never get to it geez.
I know bro, sorry… diarrhea of the mouth. My wife says the same thing!!!
Someone stole your clutch!
You jacking up the algorithm 😮🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣👍
Nice car!
fuckin sweet man
