I never even thought of customizing a fan to fit your space. I always thought they were a needed eyesore but if you customize it it can blend in. That’s really neat thanks for sharing.

Love all your videos! This past Christmas I wanted some bells that looked old/vintage. I only needed 3. I bought a box of 6 at Dollar Tree. I painted them with white chalk paint and dry brushed some strokes of gray. I applied a thin coat of Mod Podge and sprinkled cinnamon here and there. I really like how they turned out🙂

I watch you on my television as I am homebound . I am constantly amazed at how you are able to take an item and see it in a whole different use and look to suit the looks that are popular now. I keep hoping that by seeing what you do it will help me to be able to do that instead of paying so much to buy it from the store. Keep up the good work.

DAJ it is white indeed but it’s Mary’s style. I prefer color in my home since that’s my style but I think it’s just beautiful. Mary should have her own show/magazine. But unlike those who have gone before her, a lot of us could actually afford to buy and make these projects.

I like your idea of 1 color pallet to showcase odd pieces fitting together. Then adding a pop of color! Even when projects don't always come out the way we may want, I tell folks that no on else will see their mistakes, they only see the beauty and creativity you have.

    Everything turned out great!
As for the old, rusty look on the bucket, I’ve had great success using a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, salt, and vinegar. I just make it up by the pint as I need it and use about a half a cup or so of salt with the two liquids at about equal parts. There are a few recipes for this solution out there - some call for more or less of the different ingredients, but I have played around and found that this works for me. I would put it in a spray bottle for something larger like your bucket. For a piece like that, I drape it with rags and saturate them. Let it sit for a few hours and it will literally look as if it’s been outside for years in the elements. As for the toilet bowl cleaner trick, I tried it on some of the galvanized words from Dollar Tree and it worked great - however, I found that it works best if it sits in the sun and it takes several hours to get a good effect. I just stick with my mix for simplicity, as well as the fact that I can do it inside without needing direct sunlight. Hope this helps. Thank you for another wonderful video. 🙂

I have a fan that is probably from the 50’s since I had it in my bedroom when I first moved to the farm. It is probably is as as old as me. (70 years). It had the wiring changed from the cloth electric cord change to new rubber I cord. I have not turned it on I would worry that it would cause a fire. So the one you made will look old not be old. Nice job!

Hi Mary. Just spray the bucket, or any metal you're "aging," with a good coat of oven cleaner, tie it up in a bag, and let it sit a few hours. Check it often and remember to only **work outside** with this stuff. It is very caustic and fume-y. It will cause discoloration in the metal, which is what you're trying to achieve. Best of luck. *I LOVE THE ANTIQUE-d FAN! Great job! 😁

I love these ideas! Sometimes you have less time/money to actually grab the "real" antiques, and this is a simpler way of achieving the same look. I like the idea of the fan the best, because it is new and you shouldn't have to worry about the problems that can arrive with old electronics!

  • @tanyiamiller1157

Hi Mary - I think the trick to aging the metal bucket is to give it a sanding first before applying the toilet bowl cleaner and steel wool. That seems to allow the chemicals to better react with the metal.

Hey Mary! I always enjoy watching your videos and see all your awesome ideas. I did a faux rust technique on a couple of my videos. I made a faux vintage scale and used a method you might like to try to create faux rust. It feels and looks just like rust. It would’ve been perfect for your bucket. All you need is paint, mod podge and cinnamon. So when you have some time try and view my scale video to see how I created rust super easy! Thanks for always sharing your lovely home and creations with us! God bless!

When I'm out of rubber gloves I put a baggie over my hand. I have had good luck with Paso or other brands of liquid sander for deglossing things. For the glassware I spray paint one coat on glass and then paint it with chalk paint and it seems to work well and gives me that matte finish. Sometimes I use gray or blue for the initial spray and then coat with white chalk paint and sand a bit.

I used the toilet bowl cleaner to remove the shiny finish on some galvanized roofing I used to make my son a headboard. I left it for a while, maybe a couple of days and it dulled the finish and made some rust spots. You may need to reapply the toilet bowl cleaner since the bucket is rounded and the cleaner will run off. My tin definitely had more rust in the grooves than it did on the peaks.

My favourite was the fan especially the bottom part of it. I would try acetone and steel wool. You are full of imagination. Love all your projects

I've used unsweetened instant tea to tea stain baskets that I've woven. You can make it as dark as you like. However I think you may need to do several applications on a solid wood surface vs the reed which is thin and porous. I enjoy your channel and you have a lovely home.

So many great cute ideas! .... I think the fan was brilliant to buy new and then distress but all of what you did was awesome! Everything turned out. I want to buy a vinyl printer but afraid I won’t be able to figure out how to use it! 🤔. Until next time Mary...Thank you! 💝🥰Jocelyn
