  • We’re back in action for 2024 - which means two things, it’s ten years since our Scaz & Mo won the World Cup AND it’s thirty years since England did it for the first time. So who better than Gill Burns, the legendary former Red Rose & former President of the RFUW to join the gang to relive that 1994 World Cup win and all the significant ripples the tournament has created since...

Another great guest. Gill's speech at Twickenham was indeed something to behold. I think Gill skillfully manages to articulate her experiences playing the game, whist celebrating the enormous progress of the latter day teams, without any bitterness, even though it is clear she would have loved to have had the opportunities that there are now. She has obviously played a big part in those opportunities existing 👏🏻🙌🏻

1 of a kind is Gill Burns, thanks for this special interview! Some people you learn about long after you fell in love with the crazy game, and help you feel a historic & inspiring connection that you don’t get from the more famous stories of the early days of International ‘men’s rugby’. Happy New year, GSR 🎉Voted for your pod, of course.

What an exquisite episode. Gill's love for rugby shines through in every word. I loved Mo's expression on the couch with Gill, looking at her in awe and delight. A fantastic show as always, each person adding to the overall story and background of the game.
Unbelievable listening to the division between the men's game / rose emblem / World Cup - glad that gatekeeping has (mostly) passed and money and attention is given to the women's game.
Also just a tiny note that Elma - your hair was exceptionally good this episode! 😃

Gill mentioned the play about the 1994 world cup. It absolutely is happening. I think my original post got deleted because of links to the website and donation page, so I've removed them from this comment. 30 years ago an incredible bunch of women saved the Women's Rugby World Cup by bringing it to Scotland after it was cancelled in the Netherlands with only 90 days to go. Now those same women, and a few others, are bringing the story to life with a play to be premiered at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre on the 30th Anniversary, which coincides with the weekend of this year's Scotland v England women's Six Nations game at the Hive Stadium on 13 April. With a similarly tight timescale, it's now less than 90 days to go till opening night. Tickets will go on sale soon. Check out "90 days play"!!
