This gave me much needed laughter, after having been through this EXACT thing! While there may be a FEW schools/districts that do not operate like this....sadly this is the NORM. The reason there are so many that have commented is because of the truth this unravels. Oh wow....
Listened on 2x speed - what comic relief to the absurdity! Thank you for sharing this at the Dyslexia Advocacy Conference by Dyslexia Training Institute who shared for a laugh, not express support of the law firm that posted - Thank you to this law firm because I needed this ridiculous yet sometimes sadly accurate humor!
Going through this now. Have begged for an IEP evaluation since December and was told that the school year is almost over and they’re not testing right now and to wait until the last report to see. Now my daughter’s last day of school was yesterday and we got a letter saying that she might she needs to be left back, but I’ve been begging since December, we have a meeting with the principal today please pray for us.
Wow! Sounds exactly like what we have been going through😡 It's so true, it's sickening. No parent should have to go through this in order to have their child educated!!
We tried for four years to get our son qualified for special education. Every IEP meeting was like this. It ended with a huge meeting and both sides saying "My evaluator is bigger than your evaluator". We gave up and privately placed our son instead, which is what the District wanted from the get-go. But four years of his life are lost forever.
Holy shit I think this is a skit of the conversation I had when I tried to have my son evaluated by the school district. Witch I might add he was diagnosed with auditory processing. But noooooo we don't know our own kids, do we?????
Having spent over 2 years trying to get appropriate support for my child which has taken hundrends of hours over 1000 emails and about 3000 pages of documents, this sounds just like my local council SEN department in England. I would not be surprised if they were using it as part of their training for new members of the deparment.
I am a special ed teacher. The satirical videos in this set really are true a lot of the time. The serious videos are what parents need to know. All of us, please send this link to all the parent advisory, advocacy, and rights groups or agencies you know. Send it to sped kid parents and teachers. And, if anybody knows more about the author let me know. A professor? Should be.
I agree that school districts should be made to comply with IDEA in order to be protected by attorneys. And, the district and their attorneys should be held accountable for the emotional hell they force upon the students and their families. They know their actions are illegal, but they know most families cannot afford an attorney. Until a claim hits their desk, they will not even consider obeying the law. The hired help is often clueless to their own lack of qualifications. Sad, but true!
This is way too true. Back when I was in school I should have qualifed for an IEP at least one way with a TBI, and with testing they would have found that I am a totally nonphonitic reader (SLD) and have recently been diagnosed with Asperger's (I will let them off the hook there since this is the 90s we are talking about). Yet, I never received any extra help. Sadly, I don't think this is an issue that most teachers can't say falls at least some what on them.
I have heard almost every comment here from the real mouths of real administrators in my district BVSD in CO. I am in tears laughing, although I should be crying.
If only it were just the Director of Special Ed. The horrifying part is watching him pull the strings of the other school district employees. Anyway, hang in there and fight. We listened to this sort of thing for two years and well, I can't tell you what happened next, but let's just say that this video isn't the only reason I am smiling.
So painfully true... laughing and crying at the same time! And we have a fairly good district and special ed director, but the same old dragging the feet seems to prevail everywhere I guess!
"Our lawyer can't have made the 'drafting error' that lay person you claim to have found. She's very smart." (Yes, this assertion is one of the odd things that happened.) Satirical and in the form of an ad (as stated up front, of course), it's true; still, it's shamefully realistic, as some educators (as well as parents like me) posting here have confirmed.
SCA some teachers do, if your lucky enough to get that teacher. My son's 5th, 6th grade teacher lost her job for standing up for my son and his fellow classmates. Now that's BULLSHIT!
I am a student support teacher and I simply do not work this way. I will openly admit that I find the video hilarious, but I provide services for MANY student who either don't qualify or just need help. Please know that there are service providers who genuinely care about students. I stay after school 4 to 5 days a week, providing free direct instruction to any child who needs it. A huge majority of those students do not have a special ed. label. Not everyone on the professional side of sp. ed.
That's just it though, Sandy....the FEDERAL LAW is for ALL children who have disabilities that affect their education and learning problems, and therefore NEED that help in schooll. They need to see the level of functioning, and even if the child "looks" like they are functioning well, check to see what help at home they are receiving, how hard the parents work to help the child and how hard the child has to work in order to present that level of functioning! Thousands of parents have not been so fortunate to have found a caring and responsible school! The child and family suffer and eventually society as a whole suffers as well, because these kids are our future. Even when the schools fail to evaluate and the parents take that responsibility to have their child tested on their own, many schools will not accept that documented information. The schools should be made to accept them. Parents should not have to jump through hoops of the "system" that takes too much time, is too difficult or confusing to navigate (when a family doesn't have a strong support system, or one of the parents is sick themselves), and is too expensive for many families. Justice should be available to all parents and children, regardless of income. It's a sad day in America when families have to "prove" and "pay to prove" that they have those rights set by the federal government. The system is flawed. Tri Valley Schools suck! They do not care about your child and they will retaliate against you and all of your children if you try to assert your rights under the law! I'm not the only one this has happened to. I just wish we would have left that school sooner my children would have been better off.
I would like to meet the specially education director this is based off of. I have never met a director like this in all my years in special education. Most are the exact opposite of this.
Perhaps you need to be a parent of a child with special needs to see this side of the Special Education administrative staff. I would not have believed it until I experienced it for myself.
Just give the director a bigger salary and a larger pension. Nope, 150k pension isn't enough. This system is totally sustainable, it's approved by teachers!
This is almost how it is in the Bainbridge Island School District, though it would actually be a slight improvement for BISD. What this video needs is more focus on conspiracy, corruption, and organized crime. If it were just a dishonest Special Ed administrator here and there, it would be so much easier.
I have knots in my stomach after watching this!! The deception, lies, knowing exactly how to manipulate parents......YUK!!!! It was funny watching him make a jerk out of himself though.
This would be funny if it wasn't so true. Please read my new book unREAL Education: Beyond Report Cards. It is a true story, 19 years in the making, about my son and his struggles with the district and his ability to succeed in spite of his unREAL Education. A powerful expose on the school system. I offer info, help, suggestions, support and real scenerios.

This is too accurate. It gives me a headache and makes me cry.
I can totally relate to this! It took me seven years to get a diagnosis of autism for my 11 year old son!!!!
This is EXACTLY how frustrating it can be to get help from the school
This i PRICELESSLY true...what a delight to see the hard lessons presented in such a palatable way. Thank you for voicing what we'd all like to voice!
This gave me much needed laughter, after having been through this EXACT thing! While there may be a FEW schools/districts that do not operate like this....sadly this is the NORM. The reason there are so many that have commented is because of the truth this unravels. Oh wow....
Facts!!!!
More please! I work with in the Department of Mental Health in MA and this is SO true!
this is almost exactly the conversation i had with the special ed in our school!!!!
Hello there. This is my current situation. May I ask how did it turn out for your child. Were you ever truly heard?

I'm on year 16 of my torture with the school system. I needed this so much! Glad I stumbled on it!!!! Make more funny videos for us, please!
I will share this because it speaks for the other side, of a parent with frustrations in the school system.
"We do not pay for things. Things are expensive."

I had to go through this many years with no help unless I put my foot down
My kids (with LD's and currently being homeschooled) are laughing til they cry at this video.
We tried for four years to get our son qualified for special education. Every IEP meeting was like this. This was my life for an entire year....and still counting. It is not over yet.
OMG! This is so freaking funny I had tears running down my face! It is just so true!

So true, all the time!! AND, Dr Johnson always says that samething BECAUSE he is paid by the school!!
SHARED ON FACEBOOK WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS. THANKS!!
This is disturbingly funny in the darkest, sick way as it is so true.
OMG, I just had this exact conversation!
BTW, schools DO give lessons on how to do and say this stuff. There are books, too
This is way too true. Back when I was in school I should have qualifed for an IEP at least one way with a TBI, and with testing they would have found that I am a totally nonphonitic reader (SLD) and have recently been diagnosed with Asperger's (I will let them off the hook there since this is the 90s we are talking about). aww man this whole thing is the TRUTH!! He will make the school cry LOLOL
All of this has happened to us by our director LOL!! They don't have a clue
SO DAMN TRUE!
I swear I have had this conversation with our director of special ed. It's sad but this is super funny because it's so TRUE!
I have heard almost every comment here from the real mouths of real administrators in my district BVSD in CO. I am in tears laughing, although I should be crying.

I love it ,certainly true in most district.
it's actually petty accurate... lots of people in education are like broken tape records and repeat themselves over and over and over.
LOL!!! "Dr. Johnson has a beard. You do not have a beard."
So painfully true... laughing and crying at the same time! And we have a fairly good district and special ed director, but the same old dragging the feet seems to prevail everywhere I guess!
Some segments in the video are stamped not adjacent to each other

I love this! will be sharing
Wow. So painfully accurate
This is HILARIOUS! I laughed until I cried
I'd love to understand what these movingmouths are saying. Can anyone add closed captioning, please?
This is funny to watch now but hell to go through in real life.
Can the captions be enabled? Thanks.
LOL! 2 funny & so sad that it's pretty much spot on!
That was pure genius!
Um.... I hope you're not suggesting that that makes the disability go away... because I promise you, it doesn't!
hey how do you get those two voices in this video I can't find them
Oh and yes, my "official" caseload consists of student who receive services through special education.
Oh this is making me laugh so hard because it's SOOOOO true... and SOOOO sad.
Jacob is fine
And teachers say they do all they can, right!
SCA some teachers do, if your lucky enough to get that teacher. My son's 5th, 6th grade teacher lost her job for standing up for my son and his fellow classmates. Now that's BULLSHIT!

@mjeffNP77 I agree asa parent we have to be the advocate for our children.

Lack of understanding your own clueless-ness is called the Dunning-Kruger effect. See TheraminTrees' UA-cam video on it.
Hahahaha!!!!!! Very good!!!
I have but one thing to say to this. That director has a mental problem.
