Chef wan is actually a world renown chef ,but he is very talkative and humble person,he likes to help.other also ,meet him once in a show before ,always wanted to taste his cooking but couldnt find the right time ❤❤
sad news Chef Wan currently fight for his health as he diasnose with lymphoma cancer,, even thoug he looks fine now after chemo but he still need our moral support
I love Chef Wan...I love to watch him cooking & making pastry...one of talkative professional Chef in Malaysia since early 90's...no wonder his sifoo is Chef Yan...they both have same energy...
When i was a kid, i used to come home from school, turn on the tv just to cry-laughing at Chef Wan's relentless jokes. His energy is INSANE which is very much loved by us Malaysians. Also side note: "nasi kangkang" (crotch rice) was obviously a joke, it refers to the food cooked by a possessive wife trying to control her husband using black magic. I think it was mainly from Malay culture since Uncle Roger seems to have no idea about it despite being a Malaysian, but I could be wrong.
Let me tell you Chef Wan skill is way better than Gordan, the reason chef wan doesn't get any michelin star is because he wants everyone to enjoy fine dinning at affordable price, Michelin Star doesn't have this category its either you have to be fine dinning fancy and really expensive or hawker price with really good taste at a memorable placement, if chef wan gets nominated he will probably reject it because if your Michelin star gets revoked it will be a bad image he is smart enough to see this.
Thank you guys for reacting to my suggestion. There have been many uncle Roger video reactors, but your reactions make good entertainment. I hope Nigel Ng notices your videos and give you feedback.
What Up R&A Family! this was one of the recommended videos from on of our subscriber! thank you guys for all your love and support! we couldn't be growing without you guys! Road to 3K!
I'm not sure what foreigners like you guys think when you watched this video, but this is pretty much how our elders treat younger people, it might look crude, but there's a lot of affection there. We know Uncle Roger is not exactly an uncle, his age is closer to Chef Wan's children's or grandkids' age. Hence you see the no censoring banters here, the schooling of Uncle Roger and him pinching Uncle Roger's face like that. He's basically babying him 😂😂
not this particular restaurant. but his other restaurant, "De Wan 1958". Its awarded a "Bib Gourmand" and listed in the Michelin Guide. Not quite a Star, but still a great honour for a restaurant.
@@Glee73 ahhh i see..i thought his restaurant was awarded with michelin stars..tbh he doesn’t need that for recognition..’chef wan’ is already a big name in his industry..but if he’ll ever be awarded that will also be great ✨
If I'm not mistaken, Chef Wan had worked for the late Queen Elizabeth II before. I think he specialized in preparing or serving meat dishes/steaks (or was it cutting/slicing the meat?) for the late monarch. Apparently in Buckingham Palace, there are different chefs for different dishes according to their signature dishes and specializations. You wouldn't find this in Wiki or anywhere else, it's only known by his longtime fans who are already in their 60's based on his interviews with local (Malaysian) TV stations and magazines back in the 90's. I'm not entirely sure if this is him or a different Malaysian chef since I heard this from my mum. I'm 60% sure it's him, though. She religiously watched his cooking shows back then so I don't think she would talk about a different chef.
the nasi kangkang (crotch rice) is one of those myth witching practice.. so no, we don't eat those thing ever... But just be careful accepting rice from some random lady hehehe
Gwailou is Cantonese word. The word mainly used by Cantonese speaker such in Guangzhou, China, Hong Kong, Macau. The meaning of gwai is ghost. Pale and white like a ghost. Lou is a man. So gwailou = a ghost person. As in Malay, there's also a term we call a white person which is 'Mat Salleh'. Salleh actually is a Malay name so I'm not sure why the Malay use it to call a white person. There's a few versions of why the Malay use the words.
I heard the term Mat Salleh might come from the term "mad sailors" .. sailors that usually being drunk and Making rukus once they reach port.. I don't know if it's true or not.. But there was a historic figure in Sabah that rebels against British Colonizer being known as Mat Salleh..
Kuala Lumpur Malaysia where Chef Wan is based, the predominant dialect spoken among the chinese population is Cantonese although there are also hakkas, hokkiens and so on around the city. Malaysia being such a melting pot.. all the difference races, malay, indian, chinese.. interchange and use slang words from each other freely. So its not uncommon to also hear a chinese person using a malay word mixed into chinese conversation and vice versa.
The original word is Salih which means different/unusual/rare the word was first use to derived Albino people but the Malays can't tell the different from white westerner and albino so the name mat salih/salleh stick to them too
Throw everything… he is everywhere.. My dear friends, as a malay who have to cook myself as i live alone.. thats How Autehntic it is to cook Malay cuisine😂😂😂 thats why i always use modified simplicity recipes. I wont follow the correct recipes!😂 its sooooo hard n my brain cell definitely scatter hah
Nasi kangkang - not only they have to squat above the pot, but gou need to recute certain mantras...blck magic.... I think tgai has a similar ritual (but i forgot the name)
nasi kangkang refers to a practice of black magic, usually an act to subjugate the husband done by the wife. so, the husband will only obey his wife... this is the custom of people in the past... now it is forbidden
Nasi kangkang it's kind of black magic use by woman to tame their husband. The man will follow what ever their wife told to do. This kind black magic still exists today.
Sorry guys for that nasi kangkang explaination by chef wan😂..its actually one kind of black magic many years ago perform by a wife to her husband so that her husband can be her slave forever(if he is not get treated)
I live just about a kilometer there, Taman setia, nearby to the mall which this restaurant is located, within this area, theres too much nice food to try (within 3km range i mean, making people to get lazy and ordering using foodpanda/grabfood 😂 while working from home)

Uncle Roger and/or Chef: Sorry Children
This is Malaysia. I pretty sure we can handle what we all call as a "Horror Story"...
Malaysian black magic 👻👹
“Gwai Lou” is a cantonese slang. it means “white ghost”.

I went to this restaurant last year. Simply wow especially their signature Cucur Udang (Prawn Fritters)
If i’m not mistaken his restaurant has been awarded with michelin stars in 2023 & 2024 🎉 gonna save some money to try out his food someday 😂

Salih in Malay means rare/different/weird actually. It is rarely used in daily conversation but it's there in the dictionary 😊
