    I have to be honest, On shoes really dialed down on their colorways and utilizing their tech for unique designs. These just look so nice....

      It’s my 10k pace but it isn’t easy when I’m not fit (even when I’m fit, it’s still some hard work haha)

    There's similar material to the bolsters in the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2s that I have, and I think it's a great addition to reduce slippage. I'm really pleased to see On employing it here

    Thanks for the review. One for the future maybe as I’ve just picked up the DNE3.
    I wish these companies would stagger their release dates, or at least give advance notice so I can make an informed decision 😂

    ON is starting to implement setup and tech that is currently in basketball shoes(has been done in mid 2000s-Kobe’s and Lebrons)…I can see other brands go down this route to try to improve running experience

    Ironically, they had to keep 3 minuscule holes in the midsole (probably totally useless) to get going with the trademark "Cloudsomething" name.

    Good overview. The drop-in midsole/insole is cool but not quite sure what the advantage is tbh. Will be key how it holds up with time, like if it ever starts slipping or deforms.

      Modular system: A different insole with more foam in the heel could be dropped in, for example, to give a different ride.
      Nnormal did this already with the K-Boix.

      My take: down the road you may very well go to your local On store and buy just that drop in part to extend the lifespan of your shoe. To be clear, this is my personal take and nothing that I heard from the brand.

    They make the holes smaller and smaller...until they disappear :) On knows that the cloud pods will not work with high performance shoes. Now their only problem is the price...since it's more expensive than let's say sky/edge paris, it has to be better, which i doubt.

      Better than Sky, on par with Edge that’s how I position it. Technically it’s cheaper than an Alphafly which is not bad for a shoe of the same caliber. But yeah overall it’s still too expensive of course and lower prices would be better in general

      @@AlexFilitti Now i'm interested :) There's always some -15% sale through the year. I tested the Cloud eclipse in the past. The upper was super comfy, just the ride was a bit meh.

    The heel bolster material is similar to the Adios Pro 3, a sort of velvety material that is smooth if you rub one way and almost barbed the other

    I wear a US 8.5 in the Cloudmonster 2 and a US 9 in the Eclipse. What size should I get for the Strike?

    Interesting - wonder if On will be selling replacement or alternative material insoles that could be slipped into the shoe, like some trail shoe brands?
    And what did Helen Obiri win Boston in?
    Seemingly not the Cloudboom Strikes.

    If you were to glue the top insert it wouldn't too much different than Metaspeed Edge Paris with its high to low plate placement, yet many reviewers consider Edge Paris as a mid to heel striker shoe.

      I see your point but the Edge feels significantly more bevelled in the heel and rockered up front. The plate placement would be similar but the Edge would still have a different geometry.

    How would you compare the fit to the monster hyper?
    The foam in the forefoot sounds like what the hyper did as well and I really liked that

      This is MUCH better in terms of execution compared to the insert of the Monster Hyper, at least in my opinion. The fit is similar in terms of length but not as wide as the Monster 2 or Monster Hyper

    Both that fabric on the heel bolsters and the drop in midsole are old innovations from various brands basketball shoes.

    That drop does not look like 4 mm and looks like it’s probably a little lower than the 39.5 and 35.5 mm that ON is saying. Especially considering that’s a size 11 US.

      But 35-37 mm in the back with a 7-8 mm drop.

    Never like removable insole, especially if you have pronation on your foot strike. Once your feet swell 10k into the run, the insole will just slide to the side due to the pronation on the foot strike. There’s reason glue was applied on the insoles, or else shoe maker would just skip it for cost measures.

      this is a drop-in MIDSOLE, in theory in a carrier the race foam will have only so much room to expand and therefore be more stable and do the job more effectively

    The padding or “bolsters” in the heel cup uses the exact same fabric as found in the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 3. So nothing new.

    Drop in midsole or built in midsole, I see nothing special. Drop in midsole probably moves around since it is not part of the construction.

    I thought Puma was bad enough with 'Nitro' emblazoned all over it...but this is even worse....exterior side looks great though.....not keen on the gimmicky stuff all the shoe companies seem to be churning out....a definite miss for me.

    I hate this wannabe trend brands like On and Hoka.
    They only getting beginner Runners with fancy Designs and good Marketing.
    But for true Runners they are garbage.

      I respectfully disagree. Both of these brands have good shoes for different types of runners. Some of their shoes are not good. But most of their offering is relevant and adresses a need.

    You buy "ON" brand not because ot the tech or the style, but to show that you have money. For what they are as a shoe they are hugely overprised, but if you are wearing "ON" you're probably the one of the two runners in your local running community rocking them. It's a rare sight to see ON shoes in the wild to be honest, specially their more premium models. I've seen plenty of the most expensive models of Nike, Adidas, Asics etc, but not ON...

      I wear Ons because they're actually performing well for me and the style is a banger. It's way more expensive than other brands, sure, but that also means I don't buy 10 other shoes for more than what I need and hoard them like a shoe goblin.

      Got on Cloudsurfer on sale for $90. Would have never tried them unless if they weren’t deeply discounted. I am glad I did. They are one of my favorite trainers.

      To me the “super trainers” are what you are saying about money. I don’t need some superblast, skyward x, tempo next %/zoom fly, endorphin speed, or prime x garbage to do runs I can do with a daily trainer and a race/speed shoe. Those are the real marketing gimmicks
