    I've been contemplating moving into some sort of wheeled living space for awhile, but I'm a DJ with a fair amount of equipment and so I was wracking my brain about how to build out a box truck or modify an RV. But then I thought about toyhaulers and watching your video sold me on the idea.
    The garage would become my studio/office area and I'd live in the rest. Basically you did a lot of what I'd want (except the bed would be storage) so thank you.

    We had those same Ikea drawers and moved them int the rv when we went fulltime. They are SOO heavy though so we ended up selling them and just added storage under the couch instead. I love the idea of you making that shower space your clothing space/closet space... which still keeping it a toilet area. I'd have added doors though... Toilets cause a lot of SPLASH when flushed. lol Hope the lid is always down!

    RV manufacturers need to take note! I’m looking for a Toy Hauler to do something similar (though, I’m looking for something that has a shower… rare in toy haulers I’m finding). A wise manufacturer would build a Master/flex space floor plan because there’s a significant enough market for people who don’t use these as traditional “toy haulers.”

    I'd like to accomplish a hybrid between how the Happijac works OOTB, what you did and what I've seen on another channel.
    1. Use the lower Happijac bracket for a desks on either side.
    2. Be able to "grab" the top from a greater distance so you can leave monitors on the desk when you bring the top bunk down.
    3. Bring the whole thing to the floor.
    The idea is to have a full height dual office in the day, and a quick conversion to bedroom every night.
    From your experience, do you think a spacer between the two Happijac levels that allows the bottom engaging with the top to bring it down is feasible? Is there enough travel for the lower to go right to the floor with the upper say 3' above it?

    Very Nice! So creative and inspiring. We RV'ed almost a year in 2021. It was a steep learning curve but we learned a lot. I would like to do it again but when I'm not working so much. The one thing I missed the most when on the road was adequate freezer space. I'd like to figure out a solution for that in our next RV.

    Hey I love your build! I was very inspired with your frame and applied the same to my toy hauler! So thankful for this video! I was wondering how exactly you got electrical to your bed to work with the happy jack?

    • @McVeyMcFarm
      @McVeyMcFarm  8 місяців тому

      We ran the electrical cord along a channel of loose zip ties connected to the HappiJac so that it would slide up and down with the bed.

  • @TheNomadRN
    @TheNomadRN Рік тому +1

    This is awesome! A few questions tho:
    1. How do you secure the furniture under the bed for travel days?
    2. Is the bed limited on how far down it goes?
    Thanks, cant wait to check out your other vids!

    • @McVeyMcFarm
      @McVeyMcFarm  Рік тому

      Hi Randy, the desk and dresser are bolted to the floor and walls. We also use bungee cords to secure the drawers. The bed can come down all the way, but obviously we have to stop it before it hits the computer monitor. But if there was nothing underneath it, we’d be able to bring it all the way down. You can see how we custom made the bed, and how we changed it so that it could go all the way up and down in this video: ua-cam.com/video/e7RuHhjfwGg/v-deo.html

  • @jessr8564
    @jessr8564 Рік тому +1

    When you said you ran a channel up the Happy Jack System using zip ties to get power to the lights and top of the bed- What does that mean?? I'm trying to figure out how the bed going up and down doesn't cause a problem with an extension cord or is there a different way?

    • @McVeyMcFarm
      @McVeyMcFarm  Рік тому

      This took me a good day or two to figure out. I tried several approaches and finally settled on the following (which also happened to be the easiest/simplest).
      1) Pin (zip tie) the one end of the extension cord where the frame meets the bed corner. I zip tied ours to the wood bed frame corner.
      2) Make 2 or 3 loops vertically along the backside (garage ramp door). These zip ties I left quite loose. Think 1”-1.5” diameter so the cord could freely move up and down. Your goal isn’t to keep the cord tight like a normal zip tie. It’s more so just trying to keep the cord hidden behind the happijac rail.
      3). Because the cord has weight, when the bed is lowered, the cord will naturally fall to the ground (through the loose zip ties) and kind of just lay flat in the floor. Our desk hid that on one side and dresser hid it in the other.
      Hope that helps better answer it. The cord is visible in the backside of the rail but almost entirely invisible from the front.

    Good looking build. Now being a year later, how well is the bed holding up? I noticed a decent amount of deflection on the 2x4's. Personally, I would have figured out a way to use 2x6's if they didnt fit.

    Love the leveling of the floor in the back. Going to be doing the same myself. What size screws did you use for the brackets to the floor and to the wedges. Self tapping I assume? Do you have a video just on that part?

    • @McVeyMcFarm
      @McVeyMcFarm  Рік тому

      The floor is relatively thick (at least in our GD). You can get a good idea on thickness by pulling one of the d-rings in the floor. Going through the wood triangles, we probably ran 2” screws and going through the brackets only we probably topped out size wise at 1”-1/4” screws. We were able to reuse quite a few square head screws from the RV itself. Good luck!

      Great question! We used small "L" brackets attached to the floor and wall for the desk. We then used those same "L" brackets to attach the desk top to the (2) Ikea drawers. As for the chair, we ordered wheels that had brakes on them, and simply used a bungee cord to keep it held tight to the test. D-Rings (easily found on Amazon, Harbor Freight, etc....) are what we used all over the rig to attach bungee cords to things.
